450 years ago, some craftsman made this instrument. If someone told him it'd still be enriching people's lives in a half-millennium, he probably wouldn't have believed it.
There are those who regard some of Mr. Rondeau’s performances as eccentric. I greatly enjoy his playing. The young man is on fire, and should play for as long as he burns….
The technical recording quality is here extremely good and sounds stunning here on my two Sonos One boxes. And the artistic quality is also top level superb.
The microphone placement on this recording is fun. You can hear the action of the keys and Jean's breathing quite loudly. It makes me feel as though I were sitting next to the artist as he played!
MA-RA-VI-LHO-SO !!!!!!!!!!!!!! Estou impressionada pela qualidade do som do Jean Rondeau! Simplesmente apaixonada !!!!!!!!!!!
I have a 1654 Italian virginal (54 keys) similar in sound that I restored in 1982. In the 17th C, the instruments of this type were extended in compass to reflect changing demands in music.
I hope that someday Rondeau decides to record Bach’s “Musical Offering,” bc I’d love to hear his take on those pieces! These are really wonderful, played so transparently!
I think that he's really devoted to capturing the sound intended by the composer in his time. It's a really good experience watching this. What else? It's such a rich and fun experience, and i admire everything here.
Exquisite sonorous treasures from the distant past. Jean's artistic sensibility is of the highest order and what I would expect from a young talented Frenchman.
I'm sure the six people who downvoted this were on a bus together and the bus ran over a big pothole when they were about to like this. It's the only plausible explanation. 🤔
everybody is free to dislike my fav instrument, i don't mind :) i totally understand that this kinda tinny sound is not for everybody. i, e.g. cannot stand wind chimes and singing bowls. oh, and opera sopranos. except rare exceptions.
I don’t know why this is tagged as baroque, John Bull and the virginalists are more renaissance in style even if many of them lived into the 17th century.
Fantastic!!! I'm a huge fan of baroque music. Am I the only one who heard the start of the Game of Thrones theme song at 1:14? First 3 or 4 notes? Sorry, but many are so brainwashed with that! 😂😂
It's a shame that English composers, after the Renaissance, aren't remembered to the same extent as continental composers. There's a lot of stunning musical output from England that is quite unique compared to German, Italian, and French. With regards to English baroque music, I describe it as: Refined music, yet more directly expressive and grounded than baroque music of the continent, which can sometimes veer into grandiose and lofty(see J.B. Lully)
I’m usually skeptical about comments in which the writer states that the artist or composer(s) in the video supposedly don’t get the attention they deserve, but I have to agree with yours, wholeheartedly! I feel it’s also true of many lesser known composers who were active during the English Renaissance, as well as the breadth of musical knowledge and ability of the general population. This music is utterly captivating!

That was in my mind also when I clicked on the video. It's amazing that it has survived all these centuries!
The emotions this guy must feel, playing a 500 years old instrument! And he really knows how to make it sound well.
There are those who regard some of Mr. Rondeau’s performances as eccentric. I greatly enjoy his playing. The young man is on fire, and should play for as long as he burns….
That man is such a master on his instrument. It's as much a joy to listen as to watch.
Indeed!
Amazing when someone from young people today is keeping such an amazing tradition alive...💖love it!
5 centuries later, this masterpiece still makes beautiful music! Rondeau is the future
The technical recording quality is here extremely good and sounds stunning here on my two Sonos One boxes. And the artistic quality is also top level superb.
Such an ancient voice, so beautifully and expertly drawn from this venerable instrument. And what a splendid, rich bass range!
The tuning of the virginal is absolutely wonderful
The microphone placement on this recording is fun. You can hear the action of the keys and Jean's breathing quite loudly. It makes me feel as though I were sitting next to the artist as he played!
John Bull, you say...This is a wonderful piece of music. And well played. This was a blessed era in music and Bull a consummate composer.
I so love this man's ability to bring music to life❤
An absolutely gorgeous piece. The instrument is so rich and perfectly voiced. Mr. Rondeau appreciates deeply these two facts.
Biden won, cry about it
@@nothingisreal6816 the fact remains that Mr. Rondeau plays a beautiful virginal.
Incredible. So much music from two handfulls of keys.
RIP
This is a breathtakingly lovely performance.
Beautiful instrument. Handsome performance.
The way the hand move is magic
I love him. He plays as much with his face as he does with his hands. Well done.
Tutto bello ! La musica, l'interpretazione e Jean !
Thank you for this beauty !!!
Absolutely glorious playing. Instrument-wise - true inner-outer? An absolute treat of an upload.

just.........no words master.

Wow, how fortunate you are to have one!
I recently found out my ancestor owned one of these instruments in 1558, it's amazing to hear the music he would have played 500 years ago.
It was usually the unmarried women who would play it, hence the name.
Such a thoughtful rendering of Bull and a wonderful instrument. Mow everyone will want one !! Merci Jean!
Incroyablement beau.............!!!!! Cela vit - avec puissance........!!!!!
A player that listens. And reacts. Wonderful.
I hope that someday Rondeau decides to record Bach’s “Musical Offering,” bc I’d love to hear his take on those pieces! These are really wonderful, played so transparently!
Wondeful playing. Had it in the backround, and the great talent of the player made me pick up my ears
Amazing!!! It sounds so organic and natural... impressive
Those hands are extremely elegant.
Mein Gott, ist das schön!

They either don't like "classical" music, the sound of the instrument or they don't think Rondeau is cute. Or possibly some other nonsense.
beautiful!
Un jeu tout en délicatesse
that just tuning is lit
Thanks 👍😊!!!
Merci ⚪⚪⚪🔱
Dear Jean, please play Handel the next time, this is a wish from me to you. Best regarts Stefan
