      Well, when you rush out a movie to rip off an original story and not an established fairy tale, you kind of have your hands tied. Though it's a shame we'd never see a Dingo ripoff of Don Novello's Vinny character.

      @@thing1thing2themediamaniac43 I agree, although evidently there were accusations that Atlantis was itself a rip-off of an anime series called Nadia: The Secret of Blue Water. Although, ironically thanks to Atlantis underperforming, the effort to pursue alleged compensation wasn't taken. From what I've seen, there are certainly parallels and arguments that Disney's production may have taken inspiration without credit from it, but it isn't concrete and it's plausible that they both were influenced by 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea and chose similar conclusions based on the Atlantis myth of a highly advanced ancient civilisation.
      Plagiarism or simple similarity, I'm also still frustrated that Disney ultimately excluded Kida from the Disney Princess line; she was one of the most badass characters. I once thought she wasn't counted because she became queen, but both Elsa and Anna become queens, yet they are still included in the line up. Money, money, money, I guess.
      On another note, I wish they made that Treasure Planet sequel! That universe had much more potential; I've seen production sketches that show a new awesome villain, who may be Jim's father, so the plot would involve him being divided between his fathers, of his real one and his father figure Long John Silver.

    It cannot be understated just how weird it is that the bear and seal are heavily implied to be the same characters from Dingo's Balto. As silly as their Balto film was, it was still based on a real historical event, and here, in a throwaway line, they connect two film's continuity via insignificant side characters. Now the historical event from the 1920s is followed by two Ancient Greeks discovering Atlantis. And to what end??

    There is so much untapped potential for Dingo action figures. You just essentially need a dozen molds with a few body swaps and lots of repaints to get every character.

    When I was 10, my mom let me and my friends paint mine and my siblings playroom in an under-the-sea theme. It looked JUST like this movie's art. There's one fish in this (the one they ask about Atlantis) that looks like they literally stole it off my playroom wall ...my friend painted it--it was so ugly, my mom covered it with a toy chest.

    3:40 Not sure if anyone's pointed this out yet. But the reason Pedro seemingly changes directions is because the SHOTS are different, in the first one the background is the shore and ocean and then in the second shot it's more land and a town.

    • @JayStrang1
      @JayStrang1 Месяц назад +8

      He isn't confused by the character changing directions. The 180 rule is an element of cinematic language. It's disorienting to the audience if the perspective shifts all the way around the subjects of a scene between shots, reversing their positions. Typically you're supposed to either avoid rotating the perspective of a scene altogether, or include in-between shots that convey a sense of that rotation to the viewer. It's one of the ways a movie has to negotiate with the quirks of the human mind.

    You know, Phelous, I have to disagree with your opinion on this cartoon. Despite watching nearly every one of them (after your review, naturally) I enjoyed Atlantis the most so far. It being the last classic Dingo work is truly showing, as it has probably the best animation - which means they did develop some semblance of skill. Marine scenery is really nice, I might even make an AMV with Aquatic Ambiance from Donkey Kong Country. Oh, and references to early works truly tie all up into Dingo Cinematic Universe!
