Funny story: As a kid I watched all 3 movies multiple times when they aired on TV. While watching the third, my mom told me that I should go to bed. Ofc I didn't want to, because the movie hasn't ended yet. She told me that the movie probably soon will air again, so I can watch it then. Accepting that argument, I went to bed.
THIS WAS THE LAST TIME THIS MOVIE AIRED IN GERMANY (THE COUNTRY I LIVE IN).

Before CBS ruined it, the original dub aired in the US on the Fox network, during their Fox Kids Saturday morning block, which is where I saw it. (I'm not sure if just Hooves of Fire or the first two aired on Fox.) Needless to say, I was very annoyed when I saw the commercials for the CBS airing which was redubbed and didn't watch it.
I hate it when they give American dubs to shows that were already in English in general, but CBS just hired people that were already starring in their sitcoms rather than picking actors that would best fit their roles. I think Brittany Spears and Ben Stiller were the only celebrity actors who weren't also starring in CBS sitcoms. Even Ben Stiller was still connected to CBS, as his dad Jerry Stiller was in King of Queens at the time.
They also gave a terrible American dub to Raymond Briggs' Father Christmas animated special. The American voiced Santa (I don't remember if he was called Santa or Father Christmas in this version) was made less grumpy, and some scenes were removed, such as Santa drinking wine.
The American public is not asking for these things. Monty Python and shows like Faulty Towers and Red Dwarf air on PBS and are popular. And in more recent years, Downton Abbey became really popular as well.
On the other hand, all of the American remakes of Fawlty Towers have failed miserably. And the US version of Red Dwarf didn't make it past the pilot stage. (I'm probably one of the few people that even saw and remembers "Payne", one of the US remakes of Fawlty Towers. The Basil Fawlty equivalent is named "Royal Payne". That gives you an idea as to the level of comedy that this version provided. It was cancelled very quickly.)
Oh, and CBS also gave us the remake of One Foot in the Grave starring BILL COSBY, which was titled "Cosby". Meanwhile PBS was airing the original version, so I was able to watch both versions. Except for one episode that used a plot from the original, Cosby did not resemble the OFitG at all, other than it being a show about elderly people. I only knew Cosby was a remake because the credits of Cosby mentions that it was based on OFitG. (Cosby did actually last more than one season, so it was more successful than most of these remakes, but they obviously can't rerun it now.)

Oh, yeah? Well, editing the first 2 specials for time, and putting them into an hour-long timeslot for CBS* (42 minutes with approx. 18 minutes of ads crammed in.) and cropping them for 4;3, (despite being originally presented in 16;9 as aired on BBC1 in the UK) and keeping them cropped that way, was another stupid choice!
