When I heard this on the radio back in the day, this track just STOOD out. Mixes it up RnB, soul, rock, pop. To me if I had to pick one word to describe the song it would be IMPACT. She really was different in every way. Sadly these days this uniqueness is gone. We need more talent like this !
This lady had some talent. This was out just as I turned 21 and was hitting the club scene. Tragically underrated and a source of so many good memories.
I still have both her albums (CDs) and wanted her nose chain to ear as a teen (when this song came out). I so wanted to be her as I was a dorky white Canadian teen.
I was a kid when the song came out and my mom (in her 30s) loved the song. When she saw the video, she was mystified by the chain connecting her nose to her ear lol
This joint was straight 🔥 I don't know why she didn't come a bigger star with all of her talent and her gift this is one of my all-time favorite songs I brought the maxi cassette single and I listen to it damn near everyday back in '89 or '90 when it came out!
First time I heard this song I loved it. I still love it and still have the cd. I bought her second cd too. I enjoyed that one too. A couple singles released off that one as well with some great remixes. Jane is cool.
First time I saw Jane's hairdo I got a flashback to Stacey Q's hairdo from Don't Make A Fool of Yourself, although Jane's style was edgier. This was a great synth-pop song, one-hit wonder and, yes, it did make it on to Billboard Hot Black Singles (which Billboard changed back to Hot R&B Singles sometime later). And I believe the New Jack swing remix by Tedd Riley got the song onto the R&B chart. And for those who were around, Teddy Riley"s new jack sound was heard so much at that time from TLC to MJ to the theme song of In Living Color.
Her first album was a fantastic mix of Pop, R&B and Rock. She tackled love, addiction, abuse, spirituality, world issues and more. A real treat. Worth a look at her songs Welcome to the Real World and Hey Mr. Jones… the latter is a song about drug addiction set to a beat that chugs right along. Her do it all style really is missed nowadays. Back then, she got love from Prince and Chaka Khan and as many have said, that Teddy Riley remix is KILLER.
Warner Brothers were afraid rather than excited that they had another Prince on their hands with Jane Child. Just like Prince, she demanded 100% control over all of her music and production which the label heads were not thrilled about. So they didn't promote her second album "Here Not There" at all, and then dropped her for good. But she is happy. She has been married to Cat Gray from "Let's Make a Deal" for many years now. And even he can't get her to record again. I bet they have keyboards in every room of their house. Surprised it's not tempting for her.
Another super reaction 💯 oh wonderful Empress. Btw i just joined your Patreon. I'll be sharing some dope oldies everyone here will like. Peace ☮️and love ❤️
Jane Child is a multi-instrumentalist and vocalist/songwriter/producer... One of my favorites!! Teddy Riley from Guy even remixed "Don't Wanna Fall In Love', check out those remixes too :) Do a reaction to this one: ruclips.net/video/sWkDsGMQnYU/видео.html and maybe even this one, also a gem: ruclips.net/video/GhO-zS3SuR0/видео.html
Cool song and amazing look. Something dark about her chord progressions that feels a bit Prince, and her vocals pack an interesting punch. I love that wack hairstyle too, but I do get a bit of a NO CAPES feeling when I see all that hair swingin’ around near subway trains! 😱
First time I caught this song was from GTA V and a little bit later I decided to look it up on RUclips. Sure enough, it came to be one of my most favorite songs in the game! 😏
A very underrated talent….she did just about everything on this record.

This song hit #2 on the charts in the US. I love your take on it. I was 20 when this song came out and I loved it then and still do

Wow I so remember this song. Such a jam in 89. Check out Tara Kemp ‘Hold You Tight’ was in 91.
This was a one hit wonder back in 1989. I still like this song. Interesting sounds make it good.
Not only that this song peaked at #2 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, but it also peaked at #6 on the Billboard Soul chart back in early 1990.
This song is Off The CHAIN! 👂…👃
She is also a Canadian singer born in Toronto Canada

Love the gritty video too. When NYC was still tough and not so gentrification. Wish she has other hits too.
"here not there" by Jane is so good love it. good break up song...like "im over it"

I love this song. Thanks for reacting to it! Please react to artist Taylor Dane, and the excellent band, Groove Theory.
Jane child was only 23 years old in this music video
Teddy Riley did a fire remix of this that made the song blow up even more
Welcome to the Real World was the follow up that didn’t do as well but I like it better.
i hope a patron request soon
React to her song Welcome To The Real World please.
Who's That Girl? I saw what you did there. LOL! 😉

While I'm glad you're reacting to this, in the description you still have "Vogue" by Madonna listed down there. Just thought I'd let you know. 😀
My bad lol
First to rock the thirty inch braids 😂
Audio track messed up on this?

@@EmpressReacts And I must say, the 90s threads were a nice touch for the vid! 😁👍🏻
guuuurl gimmie that shirt can i have it plllllease
I just remembered that her look was very jarring and even though the song was OK, I just couldn’t… Now she’s a one hit wonder.
This should get zeros across the board for the “style” alone.
