    If someone is telling you education in the cyber security field is waste of time, tell them off and block them. The industry is in high demand and employer’s are changing the requirements. At the very least find a worthwhile boot camp if you dont wanna go into student debt. However, the ROI right now is incredibly high! Im currently systems security engineer and also do blockchain security auditing via solidity on the side . I went to WGU. Best idea ever.

    You covered most things. Now people will not question every time how to start in cybersec or what to do. It is very simple to understand. Hackersploit classes seem like we have read a book in each class. Knowledge is in-depth. Wish to get the red-teaming series to continue.

    Some great advice and thanks for the links, Paul Jerimy overview of certifications is really useful and shows there's a lot of non-security related qualification that build a great foundation for security roles. If I was going to add anything to this it's to go be interested, nothing beats someone who's spent their own free time learning about cybersecurity and has a real passion for the subject. Everything else can be taught but a love for security, and the reasons behind it will get you furthest on your journey.

    What I find interesting is that an Incident & Intrusion Analyst is considered "Entry-Level" and gets paid less than a Cybersecurity Analyst (shown as 'Mid-Level'), when the Incident & Intrusion Analyst requires/requests a GIAC certification which is highly regarded as a higher-level certification that costs more and has a lot more value than a Security+ certification.

    Fighting HR is problem most of the time, just because of the certs and/or proving that you are capable for that role.
    How would someone prove that besides certs, one has a practical experience for e.g. pentesting role?
    Currently I'm learning web development (lil bit of everything, FE and BE) + doing TryHackMe rooms and CTFs.

    • @HackerSploit
      @HackerSploit  2 года назад +13

      You can demonstrate your experience through CTFs, bug bounties, THM & HTB reports etc.

    • @MarsTheProgrammer
      @MarsTheProgrammer 2 года назад +3

      A lot of the time HR doesn't even know which certs are for what roles, even if they google it! Usually they will favor the person with a degree (engineering, IT, computer science, etc.), certs are a plus.

    • @ianhawkins5884
      @ianhawkins5884 2 года назад +3

      CEH is a more specific course if you want to go the pentesting side of the role, Sec+ is a more generalist qualification that will teach you about the wider foundations of security. Really depends on what kind of role you're aiming for. Sec+ or CISMP is probably the best starter course for anyone new to a security role and I tend to ensure anyone joining my team gets through one of them within the first few months.
