Man the graphics in this total conversion used to be so fuzzy and raw, like it was really made back in the day for DOOM on much older machines. My eyes have already been spoiled by newer versions of 2063 and its sequel, but I love that the original artistic direction was mostly preserved through all this time.
@@steeleduke Maybe, maybe...but there are definitely a few stylistic differences that have been updated since the game was repackaged into a total conversion running on FreeDOOM; such as the consumable medkits of this older version being red-lined instead of the green/blue lining of Afterglow. Then there's the audio differences, the revolver is not quite as "punchy" as it is today...though I almost like this more.
They don't want to profit from it. They've said multiple times they're not going to list it on steam etc for that reason. But yeah it is, one of my favorite wads.
I really enjoyed that, thanks for the playthrough. The game itself made me feel a little wistful strangely enough, with the soundtrack and its Phantasm themes, and also thinking about awesome old games and the reality of games today. Not really alot gets me excited like games of this era used to do. Not that they're entirely worthless, but I dunno, just feels like the best days are behind us for now, yknow? Hopefully that'll change. Anyway sorry for the tangent, really loved this game. All the best.
It's quite often that I enjoy doom mods more than modern triple a games. But yea this mod is on a whole different level. You should check its addon Dead man walking, and its sequel Afterglow. There's more in the works as well.
i miss this tone the newer ashes games have this goofy zoomer humor writing and references to other media everywhere im aware this had some of them too but they were done in a subtle way where if you dont get the references they feel like they fit with the rest of the game the 1st one took itself seriously
not gonna lie i like some of the older guns, infact the older version of ashes has this more dirty and gritty looking art style, i kinda like it more than the newer versions.
I wish this was on consoles. If this game ever comes out on the PS5, You can bet your ass I will download it. p.s. great playthrough keep up the good work. :)
@@hipsterdoofus1332 I have played Duke Nukem 3D but not I have not played Ion Fury , at least not yet. I have seen videos of Ion Fury and I am thinking of downloading the game off the playstation store.

Are you sure you're not just seeing the texture filtering that I forgot to disable prior to doing this?

I just found this and it revived my faith in gaming. You're crazy good at fps btw.
Lol ok. Thanks.

the sub-caverns is legitimately one of the scariest game levels i have ever played
Wait until you play the abandoned bunker in Afterglow, or the 2nd secret level haha.

...This game really needs to air for consoles.
I came specifically to learn if the atrocious jump at 2:17:00 is actually where the level progresses... Jeeez
Guess I try another day

Lmao thanks

It never will. Afaik the console versions can only do vanilla compatible wads, this is not that.
@@steeleduke Well, it was worth a try. Still looks like a good game though.
You can get a PC for like 100 bucks which can run this game well, and that price includes a monitor and some SSD as well.

I have zero health and zero ammo and keep dying. Need cheats :C
Gotta explore more. There's more than enough health and ammo in the game.
be careful, and make sure your shots count. most of the time you will be using your crowbar and knife just to save ammo, or avoiding enemies entirely.
What version?
Not sure. Did this about a year ago though.

Just some tit posting a shitty comment trying to put down how you play the game . Totally unnecessary . Wouldn't worry about it
