‘Dear Old Stockholm’ has opened her arms to new memories in this soulfully exquisite set 🙏🏼🤲🏾❤
It’s my wish that we never stop digging the creativity & connection that nourishes our global family.
*Thank you for your love of this music and for recognizing the subtle & grand ways that the Trio stays dedicated to their artistry & their message.*
Each one of us sweetens this journey with our decision to create room for this tradition and to daily ‘live our swing’.
(@staffanolofsson thanks for shining light on the cultural significance of a hymn that Emmet beautifully incorporates in this performance…)
The ability of Black American classical improvisation to unite our regional sensitivities is one of the hippest things this world’s been blessed to receive. 💌

Being of the much older generation who has been a life long jazz fan, I have often despaired that jazz is danger of dying, with so many greats having passed on, but when I see a concert like this, it gives me confidence that despite any fears, jazz is in very capable hands with musicians of this calibre! In short It's an inspiration!

This was a magical night: the venue, the audience, the piano, the lighting and, of course, Emmet, Kyle, and Phillip. Each had standout moments (Phillip on Love is a Many Splendid Thing, Emmet on Where is Love, Kyle on Thag's Dance and more!), Together, they were inspired and inspiring as a synchronous group with seeming mental telepathy. Emmet draws from others and you can hear Oscar Peterson, Ahmad Jamal, Cedar Walton, Barry Harris, Rachmaninoff, James P. Johnson, and more - BUT Emmet sounds new and entirely recognizable with his own style and sound. Then, there are the words he shares - he is a vehicle for the good in the world.

    • @staffanolofsson8201

I can only agree - "A vehicle for the good in this world" as Emmet says.

Lovely gig, and refreshing to see the WRITERS properly credited for the songs. A real bugbear of mine is that performers either say nothing about the composers and lyricists who gave us the songbook, or (worse still) perpetuate the nonsense that these songs “belong” to a particular artist (usually a vocalist and not infrequently Nat Cole) who happens to have recorded a version that sold a lot of copies or was in a film.

So amazing surprise for me around 59:55 … while playing through various medleys , right at that point it just ‘woke’ me up to a dead old time
    Spiritual hymn called
“ABIDE WITH ME” 🙏🏽 … I was so unexpectedly moved .. being a preachers boy …. (and a prodigal son of a preacher at that …) it just awoke a brief but deep sense of spiritual revival for me … in me … (almost with teary eyes 🙏🏽)
    So unexpectedly deeply spiritually
    Revived …
Just at that short moment ..
    Unbelievable .. amazing …
Don’t know if it were deliberate or even planned …. it just seems to spontaneously improvised …
I don’t know if he even realized what melody he just happened to have played so freely &
    Casually …
(As if the Holy Spirit just moved on his fingers to just play that wonders is melody 🎵 for just a brief moment …
My soul is just so deeply impressed …
Don’t know if he even l owns wha the just did … or what was done through him..
He was just a Spiritual Conduit …
    It just softly hit me
Right at a moment I was just relaxing at home .. almost falling asleep into an afternoon nap …
And I had my RUclips app paused form last night … and as soon as I relaunched RUclips app with my Amazon Fire Stick …
    Zoom

Gentler … I just hear that old
Melody … “ABIDE WKTH ME “
    🙏🏽
I’m like … wait … am I listening to Emmet Cohen ? Or did my Fire Stick just happen to
    Accidently click
    I’m some soft soothing spiritual
Instrumental relaxing inspirational piano music lkke this BRITHER who
    Goes
    By the RUclips channel name
    “DAPPY T KEYS” or something
? (I just started to wonder briefly ….)
And I look up to my TB screen
And it’s Brother Emmet Cohen Trio … playing .. from that posting I fell
    Asleep
    Listening to last night …
What maxing timing for something to just happen just like that
    ..
    I certainly did not
    Expect to be so
Moved and inspired in such a deeply spiritual
    Manner just now 🙏🏽
It’s a sign … could it be? for real 🙏🏽?
    59:55 …. (Or 59:54 …. Just
Before that melody of that Spiritual
comes on ….. “ABIDE WITH ME”
    ….
Yo …. I wasn’t even looking for that
… but it such happen to just
    Softly hit me …
The SPIRIT OF TJE GOOD LORD kist moving on me like that ?
    Really ? 🙏🏽
    For real 🙏🏽
I could int make this up …. I mean like
….. as soon as I launch YouTune
app with my Amazon FIRE STICK … it just starts playing
    Exactly at 59:55 …. Or 59:54
    Just like that …. 🙏🏽
    This seems TOO
COINCIDENTAL not to be PROVIDENTIAL 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽💥🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
That Brother Emmet Cohen … a Prophet on the Piano 🎹? Whether he knows it or not ? 🙏🏽
    For REAL 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽

Just started to view. Should his "Time On My Hand" be considered a sincere homage or simply a pastiche of Ahmad Jamal's immortal recording of this song? (on his Live Album "All Of You") Let' the musicologists answer to this (I have my answer). Long Live Ahmad Jamal!!

I didn’t even expect to get a Spiritual Revival
    lome this

    Right around 59:55 … (or starting at 59:54 …)
    If I were a gambler I
Might have jist played those numbers on a lotto ticket or something. But I don’t play lotto … I don’t gamble …
But those combination of numbers just revived me Spiritually
    59:55 …. Or 59:54
    FOR REAL 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
I imagine folks might think I just some
Crazy silly fool commenting on RUclips posting ..
    But I don’t care …
    I was just moved &
    REVIVED Spiritually
    Right at 59:55 … (or 59:54)
No lie … no joke …. FOR REAL 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
Silly me for repeating myself over & over like that …. But it’s all TRUE
    AMAZINGLY TRUE 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
    (I ain’t no
    Saint either …. But I just can’t
Shake this thing away like that … and just shrug it away like
    Noting…..)
This is TOO COINCIDENTAL not to be PROVIDENTIAL 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
(It earnestly seems to me 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽)
    For Real 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
    Ok … Good Day 🙏🏽

Stop playing with the camera. The people who listen to this music don't have a short little attention span and don't need to be constantly visually stimulated to enjoy the music. No one wants to see the back of the bassist while he's playing a solo. Let the viewer look at whom he/she wants to look at, just like we would do at the concert.

The camera work is wonderful - closeups of faces, hands, instruments. Excellent lighting and sound. Saw so much more than you can even with front row seats. I loved it!

Who are you talking to? I don't think the Swedish cameramen at Konserthuset are on this thread. They record most of their concerts for Swedish Public Television.

@@rodawson530 I agree about the lighting and sound. The best sound I've ever heard with a Jazz group. I find the cameral work distracting and it's the same for every tv concert.

@@jeremiad1962 Actually it's a general statement, so it's for camera people and directors everywhere that film concerts.
