I was at Bowie's 50th. Thought Reeves was pretty good. But even as a guitarist, I was more into the bass player, who really carried the night. I don't remember her name.
Incredible version! Because of Reeves Gabrel!! We can HEAR him painting the air with splashes of sound! Hard to imagine this icon, this god, this pioneer Bowie is not among us anymore...
Yea, this was a great era for DB, was grinning from ear to ear and cld tell he was sooo into it..... sorry to see this legend retire.. He deserves it having giving so many, so much pleasure over the decades, he is missed however & will remain.........
Maybe he was so happy because he was really excited about performing again and he believed in what he was doing, being happy with the artistic direction he had chosen at that time, being the start of a series of really awesome performances and albums between 1995 and 2003.
Yes! Wonderful! There should be an official DVD with at least some of his great 90's performances! It is such an overlooked Bowie period and so brilliant at the same time!
I don´t know why but he seems especially happy in all the performances he did in the "white room", and that makes the songs even better.(if this is possible with Bowie songs) Awesome!
It fascinates me how he takes these light almost silly numbers and turns them into something completely different and raw. Incredible my favorite artist.
The reason David loved Gabrels was because he was an 'experimenter', just like DB himself. Ronson was a rock guitar god, Slicky was in the same ilk, but Gabrels never let you sleep with 'one step ahead' style of playing.
Gabrels is and was excellent, but you know that in the dark canyons of his mind he is forever asking the question 'Was I as good as Mr Wilcox?' The answer is no, but a+ for effort.
I've been searching for this for years. Never a big Bowie fan but remember watching this when it was on tv all those years back and loving it. I could not remeber what the song name was called but the second I saw the orange guitar I knew I'd found it. Always loved the way the guitarist played this song, it rocks!
God this good Remember seeing the first time Were are are shows like the white room Them days of 4 channels Plus bowie and his cigarette Boys and girls check it out
The original video "Boys Keep Swinging" stuck to my mind nearly 40 years ago... Has been haunting me since 1979. Can´t you see what he is doing there at the end? He is saying goodbye to everyone in a gentle way as if he knew the future. The video itself is ingenious. Just watch the background paintings. This was what Berlin did to Bowie.
I'm a massive Bowie fan and have been since the 70s but, for some reason I've never really been able to explain, of his "most famous" or notable songs I've never quiet clicked with "Boys Keep Swinging" or "Fashion". I suppose it may be due to "Boys" being intentionally tongue in cheek and a little bit silly and purposefully disposable and "Fashion" , although being a dig at such, has a lyrical theme of vacuity. As I say, I've never quite clicked with those two singles - not that I hate or actively dislike them (it's more that they don't particularly do anything for me, unlike most of the rest of Bowie's material from his golden era.). Having said that, even though it's a bit messy and ropey, I do actually like this version of "Boys" which is quite spirited.
Yeah, it's interesting how personal and ineffable musical connections can be. Where David Bowie is concerned, my own peculiarity is that I never really cared for Young Americans. I don't think it's a bad song or anything, but it just doesn't connect with me, and it seems like almost everyone else who likes Bowie's music in the first place really feels that one. Meanwhile I have strong emotions for some songs that a lot of other people don't seem to like that much, like Dead Man Walking from Earthling. I guess that's why the really great artists are always experimenting with different things, knowing each piece might connect with different listeners...
Rebecca B Well, I love Young Americans myself but I know what you mean about not being able to "put your finger on" numbers that just don't do it for you. "Shockingly", for a Bowie fan, I've noticed I've reached a point where I'm skipping the track "Heroes" when it comes on my iPod!! I think this is just over familiarity nowadays though since it's been co-opted for every celebratory event in existence. The difference for me between "Heroes" and "Boys..." And "Fashion" however, is that, until recently, I always loved "Heroes". I think it's fairly standard to run out of steam with an artist's most popular songs though. I'm a massive Clash fan as well but don't care if I ever hear "Should I Stay Or Should I Go?" again for as long as I live!
Beefart1 very thoughtful commentary. Lucky for us he left us he left us massive amounts of material to pick & choose from. Of that I am terribly grateful!
David Bowie performing 'Boys' live will smoking a cig: PRICELESS!
:)
Wouldn't be Bowie with out a cigarette...
@@samanthalewin4397
probably what eventually killed him unfortunately
damage1_1
He died of livrr cancer, so it was more than likely the booze...or the cocaine. He had a very unhealthy lifestyle in the 70s.
@@samanthalewin4397
Hi
Yea I know what he eventually died of. Thanks.
We all abuse ourselves and eventually pay for it.
What a great version. I love this song. Something tells me the song was one of his personal favorites.
I love how he really brings out the sarcastic nature of the song in this performance, one of my favorites.
This is why David Bowie is a rock legend. Period.
Absolute class.
Bowie at the top of his game, aged 48 in 1995.
Legend
Carlos and Reeves, what a combination!
+piotor arman Was it Gabrels on stage at Bowies 50th? Because... that was a massacre I didn't appreciate.
I was at Bowie's 50th. Thought Reeves was pretty good. But even as a guitarist, I was more into the bass player, who really carried the night. I don't remember her name.
Her name is Gayle Ann Dorsey.
Attack of the Parkers!!!
If only Ronno could've been there, it would've been absolutely mindblowing. 😍🎸
The best rendition of 'Boys' I've ever heard. When the bass kicks in after the guitar introduction...man, it blows my mind.
I so agree mate.
Yep. The best version.
Incredible version! Because of Reeves Gabrel!! We can HEAR him painting the air with splashes of sound!
Hard to imagine this icon, this god, this pioneer Bowie is not among us anymore...
Kenny Everet version is better
Best band he ever had. A lot pros right there.
Mr Jones is never happier than when he is 'rocking'. You can see he loves every second of this.
David Bowie and Carlos Alomar singing "Boys Keep Swinging"! I can die happy now.
I really wish he and Alomar kept working together - the one-two punch of Alomar/Gabrels was damn cool in my opinion.
Yea, this was a great era for DB, was grinning from ear to ear and cld tell he was sooo into it.....

I'm mainly here for that gnarly guitar tone/solo.
Yes! Wonderful! There should be an official DVD with at least some of his great 90's performances! It is such an overlooked Bowie period and so brilliant at the same time!
Quando canta i suoi occhi si illuminano.. grande Bowie...love forever

Love this song ❤
Still gorgeous in 95... best frontman in modern music
omg love him sooooo much... miss him, still to this day

Some of Gabrels playing was just messy and rough.
Holy "expletive" ... That was amazing!
I've been searching for this for years. Never a big Bowie fan but remember watching this when it was on tv all those years back and loving it. I could not remeber what the song name was called but the second I saw the orange guitar I knew I'd found it. Always loved the way the guitarist played this song, it rocks!
Most sexiest man who ever lived on this planet. And this voice...
BOWIE A GENIUS
Bowie singing "Boys....", just pure unabashed exuberance!
God this good
Remember seeing the first time
Were are are shows like the white room
Them days of 4 channels
Plus bowie and his cigarette
Boys and girls check it out
The White Room was usually shit but sometimes you'd get a gem of a performance like this or Nick Cave.
Gaye Bird Or the NPG
Or Iggy Pop.
Or the Manics
The drummer is awsome particully , and other are high grade musicians too !!! Crazy sound ;))
You are right! David´s albums between 1995 and 2003 are my favourites, with "Low", and "Hunky Dory" (Tin Machine apart) A big hug, Michaella!
Leon outside low was 76 and dory was 71... Tin machine was 88 or 89
He made it better? I didn't know he could do that.
Very rare performance . . TOP MARKS!!!!!!
Lejos! la mejor versión vivo, Excelente Bowie!

Does anyone have the version of "Hallo Spaceboy" from this same shoe to upload?
Woof-woof.....!
Bestial.... pedazo banda...
Where are the LODGER critics now i wonder
Lodger just gets better & better as time goes on. But it was fantastic to begin with!
RIP
Whose on drums here?? Not a young Sterling Campbell I am thinking, right?
Zachary Alford. Recorded Earthling and some parts of The Next Day with Bowie, and toured with him in Outside and Earthling tours
@@guilhermesalamuni1271 Thanks man! Great drummer!!

better a white room , then a dark room . I never will go in that because of the bacteriën!!
@paddy9i99 Not that rare White Room 1995.
Well I talk about boys now. Yea I mean boys talkin about boys now .ive been told when a boy kiss a girl takes a trip around the world
his reunion with Gary Numan backstage, must have been awkward
when did Bowie say Lodger's his favorite album? i'm lost lol
To be fair, Mark Radcliffe was always a pretentious know-nothing tosser
Drummer awesome, Bowie smoked way too much……
pristine teeth LOL--got his teeth done after Iman got into him.
Weird that the announcer had to mention his teeth.
Nah. Bowie had just had them all fixed, after meeting Iman.
Cigarette
Could have been a little "gayer."
Everything could do with being a little gayer.
as a bowie fan I must say this is my least favourite incarnation of him. I never did like his industrial phase.
That backing singer needs to be quiet.
But that's Carlos Alomar!! with Bowie since 1974 & recorded THIS song with him. I'm sentimental.
Lets be honest though, Carlos was a much better guitarist than backing singer.
I love this song...but this is really not a very good version. He's got to force it somehow here... and Reeves is just doing something.
dont like this one
Such drivel
