    After the concert, we met the group in a bar. The musicians started playing their instruments together with some Spaniards (customers at the bar) with their guitars and all improvised. Beautifil mixture of celtic and flamenco. Unique experience.

Recuerdo que el teatro era relativemante pequeño (para lo que se estila en Madrid ;) ) En cuanto al bar, ni idea, fue todo casualidad., encontrarlos alli. Hace aprox. 20 años (año arriba, año abajo)

    • @greenshp
      @greenshp 9 лет назад +6

      +Angus MacLellan Except it's in the native language of Scotland, not Irish. And yes, there is indeed a difference.

    • @GAELMIC
      @GAELMIC 8 лет назад +6

      Scots Gaelic and Irish are very similar, but are very difficult to mutually grasp in speech. Many verbal variations and the diction is quite different. Both languages spread apart since the 16th Century although Irish dialects in the north of the island can understand Scots Gaelic much more easily than Munster Irish speakers in the South of the Island. Irish officially has had to strike a balance between three major dialects so the spelling has evolved a little as well. There are numerous similarities but deviations are just as many and both are separate languages now, just like Dutch and German.

    • @Ravenous7786
      @Ravenous7786 7 лет назад +8

      the movie Braveheart was a farce, not an accurate account of what happened

    • @michaelkavanagh932
      @michaelkavanagh932 6 лет назад +3

      Braveheart had so many inaccuracies in it unfortunately! William Wallace would never have slept with anyone in the royal family and historians doubt that him and Robert The Bruce ever met coz they'd have probably killed each other! What we need is a movie about The Bruce! Scotland's true hero

    Powerfully emotive voice.
    I would listen again if it were in a language I understand.
    I envy those of you who can enjoy vocals in a foreign tongue as well as you enjoy instrumental music; connecting on a deeper level with the artist.
    I like to understand immediately, with no translation, what the lyrics say.

    • @LadyGreyCarolyn
      @LadyGreyCarolyn  10 лет назад +2

      Thanks for your comment! I am probably one of the people you envy, because if a music hits me, it hits me even if it's only instrumental or even if I can't understand the language. I usually "feel" a music or a song, if it can be explained this way. I'm happy you enjoyed it because of the voice, though!

    • @greenshp
      @greenshp 9 лет назад +1

      +Mutt Dawg I understand what you're saying, but if I held my own experience of music to that standard, I would have missed about half of all the songs I have loved through the years. There is so much more than lyrics, and if I didn't understand them, I made an effort to track them down and learn them with a translation.

    Oh, you HAVE to look up the translation. It'll bring tears to your eyes. Look up the wikipedia history on the song, for one source. According to all reliable sources, it was actually written by the fiance of a sailor (Alan Morrison, or Ailein Moireasdan) who died at sea. "Ailein Dunn" means "dark(-haired) Alan."
    BTW, tell your daughter the editing is stunning. Really.

    It's a nice video. .. .. but the gaelic of the song is different.
    It's the most well known of all laments, meaning 'I will follow into death' its meaning is the opposite of the story of Rob Roy MacGregor.
    Which is that I will never accept death or defeat.

    What do Macedonians have in common with the Scottish? Probably nothing, right? Wrong.
    1. "Macedonians" literally translated means "Highlanders"

      oh man , i am half Macedonian , and yet we have similarities as every other country in the eu , but we are not near closer with Scottish .. We suffered similar / same as they did , and yet we (both) we are still suffering .. But We do support them because we both share unfortunate events , and tragic historical moments.. Also i wanted to add that IRA (i hope you know who they are) they collaborated , worked and communicated with vmro (the old one ) and they were like brotherhood companies at that time , that shared info and weapons and many more important jobs at that time.. I Hope we will all live in peace one day !!

      OdinMKD It was just a little exercise in pattern thinking, nothing more. Speaking of patterns, another one emerges...We are both half Macedonian and we both like this song, if you also play a musical instrument you should start freaking out right about now! (twilight zone music playing in the background)

    You HAVE to go look up the translation. Wikipedia's a good place. Seriously, do it.

    This s lovely, of course, but I was wondering if you could make a similar video of Meav Ni Mhaolchatha singing this one....SO GORGEOUS !

      James Parker I apologize, but my daughter hasn't anymore the time to edit a full video like this one, with lots of scenes from the movie :( She is the one who helps editing my videos, and right now we only posted one-picture videos.Thanks anyway for the request, and I'm really sorry I must decline.I had a listen to this singer, Meav Ni Mhaolchatha: I did not know her, and her version of the song is indeed very beautiful!!

      ***** That's quite alright...I understand. But I'm very glad you gave Meav a listen. Meav is a concert soprano soloist from Ireland. She has many notable associations, but the most recognizable one is that she was one of the four original vocalists of Celtic Woman. She has five CDs out including her most recent "The Calling" . Meav is also the reigning Best Traditional Female Vocalist in Ireland. She is featured, also, on 5 different Celtic Woman DVDs and CDs and on an independently ventured DVD filmed in France called the Divinas . I appreciate your prompt reply, though... thank you.
