  • Ever since the first Anytone Mobile DMR Radio was released with the Bluetooth option, but no removeable screen, we've been wanting a solution to mount this radio remotely in vehicles. FINALLY Anytone has released a Bluetooth Remote for all of their mobile radios, ones with and without Bluetooth, but it is different than what we expected. Is it worth it?

The biggest fail about the 578 is it doesn't have a remote head on it, so I can't mount it in my vehicle...these new cars don't have squat for space in them...but this may encourage me to install my 578 in my car since it's got the remote screen on it. Pretty nifty! You just mentioned it in the video as I was typing this!

Even though it may be legal, I could see getting pulled over for mobile device usage if a cop sees you using this while driving. I much prefer an actual head separation.

Awesome video. I was looking at the 578UV III for the DMR and the 220 (which are both pretty popular in my area) as an upgrade to my Baofeng tri-band HT that I'm currently using. Then I saw a link in a Google search for the BT-01, which led me to this video, which 100% solidified my plans to purchase the radio. Except I made the upgrade to the 578UV III Pro for the built-in bluetooth.
Bottom line for me is, I love working the repeaters in the area, but being chained to my desk all day long if I want to have a QSO with a friend or scan for traffic is just not really an option. So when I'm walking around the house with an HT, but even with an upgraded Diamond antenna on the HT, it's still not 100% that I'm going to hear the repeaters I want to hear, and even less of a chance they're going to hear me. But being able to bluetooth into a radio in my office/ham shack that's connected to my tri-band antenna on the roof? Are you kidding me? That's game changing!
The only thing that bothers me about this is 1) How the hell are we just now getting features like this? and 2) Why the hell aren't the major brands (Yaesu, Kenwood, Icom, etc.) innovating like this? Why are we just getting the same crap from 1965 with better LCD screens and more complicated menus? (Looking at you, Yaesu...)
Anywho. Enough of my ranting. Thanks for the awesome content. The 578UV III Pro arrives in the mail tomorrow and the BT-01 will be arriving sometime in the near future. Oh side-note, have you done any testing on the range of the hand unit to the radio? I have a couple of pairs of bluetooth headphones that I connect to my computer and they seem to work from anywhere on the 1st floor of my house so I'm hoping for similar results with this setup.
Ok enough rambling from me lol. 73! DE W3TOJ

The jury is still out on this remote solution. Currently I don't need to remote the 578 but a remote head would have been preferable. Like the CS800D, Wouxun KG1000, and FT-891A.

    • @HamRadio2

I was skeptical myself, but so far this is working great. You can actually use this unit as a remote "head" also, since it has a k-connector on the side of it, you can attach a speaker mic and use it like a head. Much larger screen and better looking than the CS800D

Why not just use the 878 walkie talkie itself as a remote head Bluetooth. So you can have a 4 watt radio when you are out of range of the mobile. I think it can be done with a simple remote mode on or off in the radio to radio mode and or maybe crossmode relate like the old Kenwood. And use a command transmitt between the 2 radios so the 878 can be the remote to the mobile radio. I think that would be better.

@@HamRadio2 Power seems like it's going to be the biggest issue with this thing for me. I don't VHF/UHF all that often, and I can imagine it being dead every time I pick it up. If they actually implemented USB-C, it could charge quick, but I bet it's 1/2 amp 5v charging over a usb-c connection. It'd be valuable to know if it can charge over the ethernet connection, and also how much power it pulls over the USB-C port.

@@de_w8tam There's no point to powering it over Ethernet if you have it connected to a radio with BT. Whether or not the USB-C port is high-power, it will still easily charge from a powerport in a vehicle. I may do some testing of power with the USB-C port though.

How about a wireless Control head that you can use with a dc power cord and rechargable built in battery
And the plug in mike and a spkr. Jack option. Im not enthused with it., Sorry.

Yours must have come pre-programmed from BCS. Mine was not. there is ALOT of firmware uploads, and Android APK style files needed to make this thing work. BCS will do this for you for a fee; $60. But you'll need to ship your 578 and BT-01 to them. Otherwise, you can have it done when purchasing a 578 AND the BT-01 at the same time. Still an additional $60. I'm a new ham and was able to figure it out. All the necessary files are available in the latest CPS version from the BCS site. Bottom line, I love it; now that it is syncing properly. You really can do ANYTHING from this remote speaker. A few mods from the CPS customizing the 3 P-keys on the side, and you're good to go. I would recommend it. Good luck everyone. 73. KJ7USS...

@@HamRadio2 alright well I thought I would clarify a couple of things since the information surrounding this thing is ridiculous. I have the Bluetooth firmware ending in 0036. I do not have the newest version. Someone has used Android 5.0.1 with the files in the root directory to successfully upgrade the Bluetooth. However once you update the cps and radio firmware go into the cps and under options check Bluetooth and Bluetooth microphone. Then go into optional settings and on the bottom right turn on Bluetooth syncro, this is suppose to say RF shutdown but it doesn’t. This is what allows you to power on and off the radio from the Bluetooth remote. Now I was able to do everything with the older Bluetooth firmware. Hope this helps some people.

Duck or lose the jazz. Too much. I want to hear you, not a jazz trio.
Otherwise great video. That jazz is much louder perceptionally to some on certain speaker setups that emphasize highs. Distracting from the actual content. Especially to a musician.
Definitely think I want this thing and matching rig. Fought thru the music to listen to you on an Apple device that’s trying too hard to sound good with 2mm speakers and music. Lol. Sounds better in reference speakers on a PC but… not sitting there while doing other stuff. Haha. 😅
Cheers! Dump the jazz! Ha. Or duck it hard in post against your voice!
Depending on the BT range and how well it handles dropouts and errors - that thing could be nice for apartment dweller hams. Rig in the vehicle with power and low voltage protection and take the BT remote inside!

@@HamRadio2 really depends on the speakers. For a musician it’s like playing CW in the background. Adds to the N of SNR and detracts from your desired communication. I’m “copying” key changes in my head instead of listening to your content. Same as if you put someone calling CQ in CW and a CW ragchew in the background - if that makes sense. No worries. Just learned audio mixing from a blind guy and he always said “add nothing that lowers SNR unless the music or whatever emphasizes the message being sent”. Emotionally synchronized music like in movies was his example. Cheers! Time to head to a dinner with a ham buddy and a Christmas light tour!
