  • If you returned home and you have sharp pain when you eat or when you wake up in the morning and other times it's fine, this is not usually anything to do with infection.
    The most common case here is that the crown that we've done is slightly too high and what you need to do here is visit a local dentist or you can check it by simply bite on a piece of paper to see the impression of the teeth. If you feel this kind of pain, it needs to be done quickly because if you leave it for a few weeks it can aggregate the nerve under the tooth and you may have further problems with that.

    Had a small gap on my permanent crown so I got a temp. Ended up in excruciating pain and cold sensitivity. Had some desensitizing resin put on and got worse. Had a root canal as a last resort today and the pulp was very inflamed. Not sure the cause, but unlikely it would’ve healed on its own with how bad the pain was. Was never aware removal of a crown could cause possible trauma

      I had a root canal and had to have a temporary crown put on, It was bad for the first 2 days but was fine later. However, A few months later I suddenly start feeling awful pain again from bad gum inflation and I'm yet to know the cause yet.. Currently traveling so I can't even go to a dentist to resolve it

    Got a temporary crown put in and still experiencing pain after two weeks ( can’t sleep bc of pain) went back to the dentist, dentist said there was no infection and the severe lingering pain is from drilling the tooth and the only option was to wait out the pain or root canal 😢

      did you have an x-ray done? If not, you need one doing. If it's hurting that bad, then it could be more than a bite problem - perhaps the root needs retreating? Anyhow, the x-ray should make clear what needs to be done.

    sorry this will be a long thread. plz any advice.
    a little back story with my tooth #31(nov 2017) I've had a silver filling cracked and at that time the dentist insist to get a crown so I went ahead and had it crown(porcelain fuse metal). after a month I still feel pain and have adjusted the bite still no luck 5 months later I went back in to have them take a look again a different dentist adjusted the bite wait 5 weeks. within that 5 weeks my crown fell off and a different dentist (director of the clinic) took over to help me. so he said lets change the crown to a full porcelain crown. this took about 2 months for them to be made. had it crown after 2 months and adjusted the height also and again the pain was still there. i couldnt put much pressure on it since it would hurt even eating a banana.i went to get 2nd opinion from a different clinic and told me the crown felt loose and I need a rct but I hold it off bc I just didn't know what to believe. So I went back to the same clinic where I had gotten the porcelain crown after few months they took some X-ray and referred me a Endodontics but I was moving so I couldnt go (end of 2018), in between 2019 was pregnant wasn't able to see a dentist beginning 2020 went to another dentist and took a panorama X-ray she didn't see anything wrong with my nerves and then covid came, fast forward 2021 my crown fell off 3 weeks ago from today while eating bread and was able to see a Endodontics and told him this history of the tooth and he took an X-ray and see that my teeth have been shave to close to the nerve causing it to be in pain so I went ahead and got a root canal done and was referred to this dentist who does many dental crowns on patients, I had a temp crown placed after 2days of the rct to prep for a crown (zirconia crown). its been 2 weeks I have this new crown on and I am experiencing some pain in between #30 and #31 like a quick sharp pain when I eat, no pain tapping, sometimes it feels itchy but goes away in seconds, when I floss I feel some pressure on #31 but feels a relief after and when I floss again no pain, when I eat I feel like it will fall off. I did have the height adjusted on the day I had it permanently crown. there's a bit of slight pain and pressure when I touch the side on #31.

      wow - you've been through a lot - so sad ;-( It's easy to look back in a way and say what "should" have been done - but for the sake of other readers of these comments - have at least an OPG digital x-ray done any time you have a problem like this - a CBCT scan would help even more. This would show if any nerves are exposed or irritated or infected. This should be done before you have any root canal treatment. Then the bite - a digital bite "articulator" device would show how the bite fits against the surrounding teeth - to determine if they are causing the problem - not the tooth that has been worked on.
      In your case Nerrie, I would have the bite checked on all your teeth, as well as the positioning of your jaw while you're at it (ask your dentist about devices to diagnose TMJ) to rule out any possible cause of pain. If nerves are exposed during the crowning process, make sure the crown fits tight with the gum properly, and wait some time for it to settle. Fingers crossed!

    • @CoultonShaw
      @CoultonShaw Год назад

      Hi Christine, an x-ray should show if your pain related to any infection or failing tooth root beneath the bridgework. In that case, then yes, the whole bridge is usually removed. If everything looks fine on the x-ray, then the pain might be coming from an ill-fitting bite which would mean just a slight adjustment to the existing bridgework, and the birdgework wouldn't need to be removed, just adjusted. I hope that helps!

    I had a new dental bridge fitted 9 days ago. I started to feel pain ever since whenever I’m eating. Back to dentist shaved the bridge down but makes no difference. I had my previous bridge for 20 years without any problems! My new dentist claimed that I need a new replacement and now I’m regret to death!
    She suggested tooth canal to my perfectly healthy teeth under the new bridge but I just don’t have my trust in her. Now that I have to pay more ( for root canal ) on top of what I’ve paid for my dental bridge. Pls advice what should I do? Is it necessary to do a root canal on a perfectly healthy tooth to take the pain away or should I wait to see if the pain will go away? If so, how long does it take for the pain to be gone completely? Pls help me, I really have no idea what is right and best to do. 😢

      I had a bridge for 35 years and there was a funny taste coming out from under it. I went to three different dentist but they all took x-rays and said the bridge was fine I must not be rushing or flossing properly. One suggested using a waterpik so I got one. Then the bridge started to hurt when I bit down. Still the dentist said it was fine according to the X-ray. So I watch the RUclips video on how to remove a bridge and I removed it myself as I couldn't get a dentist to remove it. One said they would have to cut the bridge off and they wanted $3,500 to replace it. A RUclips video said I could string dental floss underneath it and pull up to remove the bridge. It worked I pulled off the bridge myself. That's where I found one tooth completely rotted down to the gum line and the other tooth was yellow possibly dead. My dentist wanted to do a root canal but two other dentist said the truth was dead an abscess and it would have to be removed. I chose to have it removed. But now they want $4,000 for a four Place Bridge and I'm not sure if I want to risk paying that money because the yellow tooth maybe dead. Now I'm finding out three of my caps are Cobalt chromium and they may have to be removed. I figured that out when one of the Caps cracked the opposing tooth that needs a cap. No insurance $10,000 worth of dental work and who knows how long that will last. So did you get the root canal or get the tooth pulled?

    Had my crowns 2 weeks ago installed and pain of my crown, while my gum pressing and sliding down the tooth, started and the gum got inflamed. I managed to stop the inflammation without infection and she shaved my crowns a few times and still it hurts occasionally when I press my bottom teeth to the top 4 crowns. I’m coming back again there but I cannot live like this any more. Will it last forever this pain? When I control myself and don’t touch the top crowns for a few days it reduces the pain but when I touch for a few minutes mildly it starts again. What’s the matter with them? I cannot ever press my teeth? But I did it with my real teeth which were mostly dead and there were no problems.

      Sounds as if there is a bad bite match for sure - you need to get that checked properly (bite test) as well as an OPG x-ray to rule out any inflammation of the nerves. 2 weeks is still early, but if it continues for another 2 weeks, you'll need to get it sorted for sure before it gets worse.

      @@CoultonShaw The thing is that the dentist had a root canal treatment on the 1st tooth a week before the crown was installed so both of the teeth are dead. 2 weeks later inflammation started above 2nd and 1st tooth and then I noticed a crack on 2nd tooth. So she took it off on Wednesday and now I have a temporary crown. I’m treating sore gums now with sticks, brushing and salt water baths. When I tap on the bottom of the 1st tooth with plastic pen, no pain. But when I move my lips up and down the tooth - it feels unpleasant. But I feel improvement still with this pain since a week ago. She shaved a lot last time to make my bite better but I’m still not finished there.

I ended up using a nail file on one of the crowns because I couldn’t even shut my mouth properly. I did it myself because the one tooth I had the dentist take down in size (my original dentist) he reduced to a tiny nub that gave me more problems. When I looked in the mirror I was mortified that he took it down so far. (I broke the file to make it smaller so it wouldn’t touch the neighboring teeth). I just did a little at a time over a very long period of time. I’m so glad I did. At least I fixed part of my issues. I have extreme tooth sensitivity on the right side of my mouth. Hi Doctor, Ive got RCT done for my upper molar(second from the last) last week and i got the zicronium crown yesterday. It was fine after the cap was fixed. However my bite seemed to be off. Everytime i take a bite my crown teeth is the first to hit my bottom teeth. I can feel it. Today i went and my dentist drilled the crown a little bit. I still feel my bite is a little off but my dentist says the impression is fine.
    I suddenly started having severe pain in my crown since this afternoon. Whenever it touch my below teeth a sharp pain comes. Its hurting my head as well. What could be the issue?

    • @CoultonShaw
      @CoultonShaw 11 месяцев назад +2

      From your description, it sounds like you may be experiencing a common issue that I described in the video, which is called occlusal trauma or high bite. This is when your newly placed crown is slightly higher than your natural teeth, causing it to bear the brunt of your bite force. This can be very uncomfortable and can even lead to pain or discomfort in your jaw, head, and the tooth itself, as you're describing.
      It's also possible that your crown may be contacting your opposing teeth prematurely, which means it hits before your other teeth come into contact. This could also cause the sharp pain you're experiencing. Your dentist already attempted to fix this by adjusting (drilling) your crown, but it seems that it may not have fully resolved the problem.
      Another reason could be post-operative sensitivity or pain which is a common occurrence after a root canal therapy and crown placement. The tissues surrounding your tooth might still be healing and could be sensitive. However, such discomfort usually subsides within a week or two and if it is getting worse, it would be a cause of concern.
      Lastly, although less likely, there could be an underlying issue such as an infection or a problem with the root canal treatment itself. While this isn't common, it can happen, and it's something your dentist might want to rule out if the pain continues.
      Regardless of the cause, ongoing severe pain is not normal and is something you should absolutely seek help for. I would recommend you to get a second opinion from another dentist if your current dentist doesn't recognize the issue or if the pain doesn't subside. A different set of eyes and hands might be able to help identify and correct the issue.
      Pain is a signal that something isn't quite right, so it's important that you continue to advocate for yourself until the issue is resolved. Take care and don't hesitate to seek out an OPG x-ray to determine any root issues if necessary.

    I have some chromium Cobalt crowns and I'm having a lot of health problems. Are these crowns toxic? How do they remove them?

    • @CoultonShaw
      @CoultonShaw Год назад +1

      Chromium-cobalt crowns are a type of dental restoration often used because of their strength and durability. They are particularly suited for back teeth that bear much of the force of biting and chewing.
      In terms of toxicity, both chromium and cobalt are elements that can have toxic effects in large amounts. However, the amounts that would leach from dental crowns under normal conditions are typically much too small to cause systemic toxicity. However, in rare instances, individuals might have an allergic reaction to metals used in dental restorations, which could cause local symptoms such as gum or cheek irritation.
      If you're experiencing health problems that you suspect might be related to your dental crowns, it's important to discuss these concerns with your dental clinic. They can help determine whether the crowns might be contributing to your symptoms or if there might be other causes.
      If it's decided that your crowns need to be replaced, a dentist can do this using a procedure similar to the one used to place them. First, the dentist will numb the area. Then, they will cut and remove the old crown. After this, the tooth will be prepared again, an impression will be taken for the new crown, and a temporary crown will be placed until the new one is ready. At a subsequent appointment, the new crown will be cemented in place.
      Please consult your dentist to discuss your concerns, as the all that I can provide here is based on your comment and may not apply to your specific situation.

It seems like you are dealing with what is often referred to as Multiple Chemical Sensitivity (MCS), a controversial condition characterized by a variety of non-specific symptoms, which certain people attribute to exposure to low levels of chemicals.
      When you meet with your dentist, it will be important to clearly communicate your concerns and the specific issues you've been dealing with. Based on your hypersensitivity, you could ask them about using biocompatible materials for your crowns. These are materials designed to be well-tolerated by the body and to not produce an immunological response.
      Zirconia crowns, for example, are a type of ceramic crown that don't contain any metal and are often well-tolerated. Zirconia is very strong and can be used even for back teeth. Alternatively, composite resin crowns could be considered, although these may not be as long-lasting.
      If they're not an option, it may also be helpful to search for and visit a dental clinic / small hospital that includes specialists in allergies and environmental medicine.

    I got a root canal filling in July .... temporary crown in August ... permanent crown in September ... still experiencing pain - especially when eating on it. It's sore to brush and very painful to floss. It's even sore when I touch the top of the crown! Is this normal and will it go away eventually? Or do I need to go back to the Dentist? What's wrong with my tooth? Thanks in advance for any reply!!

      Hi Angela, go back to the dentist for sure. You need a x-ray done - to rule out any problems with the nerves, if that's ok, then a bite check needs to be done and your crown adjusted. Let us know how it goes on!

      this is quite normal as there is now a different shape touching your gums than before. Either the gums will adapt and the pressure will stop (usually over 2 weeks) if it continues, it would be worth visiting the dentist to see if it can be refitted slightly. I hope that helps!
