Really well explained, I feel much better after watching this, both my children had ent surgery this week (7 year old had adenoidactomy and turbinate reduction) (16 year old had turbinate reduction) my youngest had a reaction to the GA and has had an awful week. I started to wonder if it was all worth it for him. I feel very reassured, thank-you. I wish my eldest had been seen earlier. We had been referred to paediatricians previously but was never picked up. It was only when I noted adhd symptoms that I felt were linked to chronic sleep disturbances when he was 14 that I mentioned it to our brilliant family dentist. He referred us to the ENT Consultant.
My youngest has had respiratory issues all his life, later diagnosed with a dairy intolerance. I started to feel truly neurotic as every paediatric doctor told me he was fine and was just a mouth breather? As soon as I met the ENT consultant, he diagnosed the issue in both my boys in 5 minutes!!!
I’m annoyed with myself for not advocating more for my children. My eldest went from As to Ds and ENT doctor described him as dangerously sleep deprived through sleep apnea! I never sought psychiatric input as my instincts told me it was his sleep issues not adhd. I expect many children have been diagnosed with adhd without ent assessments or sleep studies to rule out a physical cause.
Thank-you for explaining the potential consequences of not going the surgeries. I needed to hear this today. I have spent thousands seeing paediatricians and this also made it challenging as we don’t have thousands to spend, I’m truly grateful to our family dentist for taking the time to ask questions and making the referral to ENT. My eldest has also had a brace fitted and some device to move his jaw. Both children snored, talked, shouted in their sleep, on occasion slept walked and have crowded teeth and dry lips. I pray the surgery makes life easier for my boys. 🙏 if you are on the fence, please talk it through with an ENT specialist as I feel my eldest school life and confidence could have been better supported with earlier intervention. 🤍

Thank you for sharing. My 7 year old just underwent an adenoidectomy, tonsillectomy and turbinate reduction today. I can relate to similar experiences as both my children also went through sleep disturbances and change in academics. My daughter underwent a T& A removal when she was about 14/15 and I wish I would have done it sooner. She is now 18.

My son is 6 years old now. At 18 months old, he had about 8 ear infections. Enough was enough! We got tubes and adenoids removed. Not a single ear infection since, and, he only gets sick about once or twice a year. Hardly a runny nose ever! I recommend it.

He has speech problem, one of hear drum doesn’t move properly . Our family doctor referred him to see a ENT doctor and today the doctor suggested to do the adenoids surgery, I signed the form but I was still having some doutes by hearing your experience, I feel more confident doing it. 🙏

What a brilliant explanation Doctor. My son had his Adenoidectomy today at Oxford University Hospital in the UK. For last 4 years ever since we arrived in the UK he kept developing ear infections, otitis media, blocked nose and severe allergic rhinitis. Doctors here gave him Avamys but asked us to monitor. Avamys could only provide temporary relief. So we had his Audiometry test done and XRay where it was found he had eustachian tube stenosis. Poor kid suffered a lot. So the Doctors finally asked us to go for Adenoidectomy. Fingers crossed hope he outgrows all the problems now.

Curious as to why you've chosen not to remove your adenoids? I suspect my husband also still has adenoids and is the root of problems for him. He has a CPAP, but he has Apnatic episodes while standing and talking!
My 8yo daughter just had her adenoids removed for a 2nd TIME (1st time was adenotonsilectomy @ 4yo) 35 mintues ago. One of them grew to completely block her nasal passage. The ENT said he's never done it a 3rd time, that it'd be 1 in a million. I was googling the chances of them regrowing again and her needing a 3rd surgery when I came across this video.

    • @ciomaria6137
      @ciomaria6137 9 месяцев назад

@@niki-matildajanegoodhartpe3465 good question… I found out I still had adenoids when I was approximately 30 years old or so. Up until that point and to this day, no doctor I’ve ever had has recommended or suggested I remove them. My ent just commented it was funny they were still there.
More pressing was my severely deviated and overly thick septum, which he recommended surgical correction for and I had. That procedure alone was a huge life improvement for me.

My three-year-old has enlarged adenoids and struggles to breathe at night. I am on a waiting list for surgery. I've started giving her elderberry syrup every day. I didn't notice much change, but I heard it helps. Then one night, she slept well, with no snoring and no issues. I thought back to what I had done differently that day.... Well, I added sea salts to her bath. The next day she was back to the same problem, not being able to breathe well, snoring etc... So I decided to test out the theory and added sea salts to the bath... And guess what... She slept like a baby again. I've been doing this daily because I've noticed it has helped. I also add eucalyptus essential oil (optional), but you don't need to; I'm just trying new things until she has her surgery.

What a wonderfully clear and comprehensible explanation of adenoids! Excellent! I wish every doctor, particularly in clinics, would expound on medical issues in a similar manner, fostering a sense of comfort and confidence among patients. Sadly, this seems to be lacking in today's era, as the medical profession is increasingly adopting a business-oriented approach at an alarming rate.

Hello Dr. Chaitanya Rao, thank you for the wonderful explanation. My 3-year-old son has some symptoms you have mentioned, and two ENT doctors of two hospitals in China suggest my son should have his adenoids removed based on the following:
    1. CT-scan and X-ray show his adenoids are in grade 3 (70% blockage).
    2. He wakes up 1-3 times a night, but he’s still quite energetic in the day, no daytime fatigue or short attention span.
    3. He sometimes breathes through his mouth, and sometimes snores, but not always.
    4. He sometimes rubs his nose and sniffs. Can enlarged adenoids cause that or allergy? He is kinda allergic to dust.
    5. Nothing wrong with his ears; no ear infection.
My questions are 1. “Do you think his symptoms are severe enough to have a removal operation?”. 2. Or should we try medication first and see if there is any improvement, and then decide whether to have an operation later?
I trust you and really need your advice. Thank you for your time.

Hi, Certainly, home remedies like gargling, honey, turmeric, and garlic can help manage some symptoms of adenoid problems and boost immunity. However, they can't shrink the adenoids or cure adenoid hypertrophy. In cases where adenoid enlargement is causing significant symptoms such as snoring, breathing difficulties, recurrent ear or sinus infections, Surgery is recommended. Always discuss additional treatments with your child's doctor. They provide the best personalised advice.

She has middle-ear infection too which lead to a slight hearing loss. Doctor has suggested for draining the ear-fluid too.
    I have two questions:
    1. Without any x-ray or CT-scan and without knowing the grade of Adenoiditis, is it good to go for surgery??
    2. What is the process of drainage of ear-fluid..?? Is it surgical too ?
