Really nice progress and so close to make it in the end. The whole process would have been so much easier if you had a box and learned to roll over sideways first
Try learning all of the flips you want to learn on a trampoline, and for the first time trying a flip you have to fully commit to the flip, otherwise you land on your head. I haven’t learned any flips on the ground, but I have back, front, and 180 front down, I’ll probably learn side soon
Haha, I love your progress with the skill and your knee hurting is kind of relatable to me! I tore my ACL while on a longboard and had surgery 2 days ago. I'm in EXTREME pain but seeing that you uploaded made my day! Thanks

I want to appreciate this man's achievements things to learn in lockdown amazing editing camera positions u are a legend or something and im honest that u should get 1m right now......👌
Mike, I would like to start off by saying you seem like such a great person. Secondly, your editing skills are beyond this world and I appreciate how much time you spend on your videos. I learn skills just like you. I learned a backflip, frontflip, side flip, and a bunch of other stuff like the Rubix cube. In the future, I would love to be in the creative filmmaking world. I make short youtube videos right now but I love editing them. Keep up the great work Mike. And thank you for inspiring me.
I love this dude and I seriously respect all he has done as he has put maximum effort into every video. mike you are an amazing person and you push your self to the limits. your videos put a smile on my face each time I watch them. I hope you keep these great vids up.
Hey mike, great video. I can recommend you to take off from an uphill inclined plane. The sideflip is then much easier than doing that on a flat ground. Hope your knee is ok
Man let me tell you that this video is the one that got me subscribing to you. Your passion, interest and dedication to learn something new every fu(family friendly) week is absolutely so damn amazing. With you man always
Hey mike, fellow flipper here. I’m also a self taught and can do around like 5 different standing/ running flips including side flips. Tip from personal experience. Don’t sweat it man, take a break and come back stronger. I sprained both my feet about a year ago trying to learn a sideflip and didn’t flip for 2 months, but as soon as I healed I did the side flip literally second try. Not joking. I was doing them in to pools and trampolines and as soon as I healed, I felt good, went outside and did it second try after like 3 weeks of not being able to do it. Taking a break, and coming back later refreshed is SUPER helpful Advice: Your biggest problem is that you aren’t getting ANY height. This happens when you throw yourself sideways and COMPLETELY forgot about your vertical “jump.” Think of a backflip. When you do a backflip you have to actually bend your knees, crouch, shoot up, THEN flip. If you just jump straight back then you’ll kill yourself. A side flip isn’t any different. When doing a sideflip don’t bend your knees as much but still jump as HIGH as you can sideways then tuck. Practice jumping over a 4 foot box or something. What you’ll notice is that even if you don’t try, your body will “freak out” and naturally give you more height than you have ever experienced. Same thing happens when you do flips on cement for the first time. Your body will naturally make you jump WAY higher because your worried.
Man I still remember when mike had around 1k subscribers and its so good to see you grow now been following you since then. Man love your channel still you have a long way to go ✨✨❤️🔥🔥
When you feel injured, take a long break as soon as possible. I am also currently going through the process of learning side flip and frontflip but only do 1 to 2 flips in one session and only 2 sessions a week, still I got pain in my knee and shins from frontflip so I took 2 weeks break. And i am practicing only on grass without any mattress or padding. I think the knee pain from side flip is due to the impact forcing the knee joint to bend inwards.
Hey Mike, tip from a self taught flipper who can do a backflip on ground at 12 years old, don’t try to rush doing flips. If you try to rush doing a flip, you’ll probably hurt yourself. The tuck and how high you jump is everything in a flip. Don’t give up, it’s impressive to see a guy your age learning all of these skills with no experience. Also, could you try learning a corkscrew on trampoline or ground?
I did gymnastics for years and never sideflipped on grass. GOOD EFFORT my man. Something that helped me was to place a barrier between myself and the landing pad, and try and "roll" over it as I sideflipped. It means you land all of them. The barrier could be a soft gymnastics block or or something, and should be almost as tall as you. Good luck!
Dude u doing so great but ur just missing smt....a friend or an obstacle...u need something about hip high to start rolling over it cause side flips are actually very weird to learn so having smt to roll over will slow down the speed of the rotation and help you focus more on high and technique...search on youtube "jesse la flair side flip tutorial" and u will find more on that....keep it up u doing great work and safety first
A good way to do the side flip is to first learn the side roll. That will get you in the right position to do the side flip. Once you get that down you will be more com with that. One thing to remember the sideflip is least likely to injur you. It looks like when you're doing that flip you aren't fully engaging your arms, they kinda stop half way. You wanna make sure that your arms go all the way because that helps with height and rotation. Hopefully this helps you keep going man you got this
@@ghxstvisuals5 ouch, that’s unfortunate. I haven’t seen people injure themselves on side flips too much. I always find them safer than front flips. Also shhhhhhhh you’re not supposed to tell him that
I'm doing Parcour, Free Running and Tricking for 10 years now and the one thing I learned is that training safe is better than ruining your body after a few years. Try flips in a safer environment like a swimming pool or at a lake with a one meter divingboard. After getting a better feeling for the right rotation and technique I would start doing the trick into sand maybe with an additional mattress. I started learning my sideflip 8 years ago but I always had safe invironments around me like gyms, swimming pools etc. But I finally landed my first sideflip in the sand after 3 years of solid and good flips in gyms and pools. The landings at the end of the video were looking very painful by the way! It is better to stop training at that point to check if something is wrong! But it's amazing to see so much passion for learning flips 🙂 Hopefully you're allright!
I was looking for this comment! Definitely much easier to learn and get the confidence on a trampoline; a foam pit helps too, if you have access to a gym with one.
Amazing progress for someone who never sideflipped before. Littly tip for the tuck you keep your hand up while running but when you jump your arm goes straight to your knee. Try making it a nice round movent for the rotation. Otherwise keep up te great work man!!!
I used to do free running and I have some tips, your arm that you don’t use to throw up should be used to swing away from your body and up, it helps lift your chest and give you way more height and rotation speed, watch a slow motion video of a side flip if you do not understand, other than that keep it up you are doing great👊🏼
Mike is like some anime character that work so hard and become so powerfull,i love your content and energy. It give me courage to do something that i would never thought i can do it.🔥🔥
@Mike Shake, love your content. With this video I've learned the side flip as well. Try look at the ground while your legs go over your head.. Much less injuries and you get the flip much faster
You should use the gather step method when setting for the side flip. Jumping up like then with both feet together before the flip kills the upwards power and makes it much harder to perform. Your feet should stay very low to the ground when setting with a very quick gather step movement.
Something that helped me learn side flips was using a trash can. Flip it upside down and get comfortable rolling over it on your back. You can also use a table or something similar. Then learn how to control your momentum and then kick your legs out at the end to land.
I landed my first side flip about a month and a half ago and now I can even do a misty five (side flip 180) your problem is you need to work on your height it will make the flips so much easier, and the landing will be so much softer. Also you need to try to tuck as hard as possible. Lastly when you tuck you go too early to need to wait till you are at you maximum height then tuck. Then the most important thing is to just send it!
