    If you want to defend yourself against a grappler or wrestler, you can't just simply practice some techniques a couple of times and think you are fine. Do you think wrestlers compete to people who don't know how to block agianst takedowns? They still take people down who trained for years to not get taken down.

      in any real martial arts school you will not get to black belt for at least 5 years and that is learning very fast... this is the misconception about traditional martial arts schools and "McDojos" that are sadly everywhere in the u.s or as my master says .. belt factories.. BJJ is a true martial art form mma is a sport in my honest opionion!

    As a wrestler with eleven years of varsity experience (as well as five years of tae kwon do), I will say that the best defense against a wrestler is to avoid getting close. At close range, a wrestler will be able to exert control over the situation and keep pressure on their opponent. The wrestler depicted here was far from great, but I can see where you were going with this. Another thing to remember is to never give a wrestler your leg. If they trap your leg, you will end up on the ground very quickly. A good defense if you are trapped in a single leg would be getting in close before they can sweep you or knock you off balance. Keep your center of gravity above the trapped leg and step down towards the ground. Really, everyone who practices martial arts should have some form of grappling in their arsenal for this exact reason. Most real fights end in a grapple situation, so you either have to know how to keep from getting in that situation, or know how to grapple.

      Sicam coming from a wrestler this is the best advice I’ve heard. I definitely feel more comfortable in a fighting situation if I’m up close with the guy. It’s just way easier to control the fight that way and avoid getting drilled by a right hook out of nowhere lol

    The techniques aside, the grappler isn’t “neutralized”. He is free to immediately chase after you, and now you have your back to him

  • @IHateHandleNames

    If this dude is a champion than he's suffered a head injury and lost his ability to wrestle. Literally the first rule of wrestling is "head up, chest forward". This dude throwing doubles bent at the waist like that is gonna get sprawled on all day. You seem like a nice guy Jake, but you're hawking bullshit here. Anyone with even a high school understanding of wrestling is going to blast through those last two moves and probably your sprawl too. I don't mind you hitting fruit with nunchucks, but this horse shit is going to get someone hurt. You wanna learn to fight wrestlers? Learn to wrestle. It isn't too terribly hard to stop takedowns if that's your only goal. You could train takedowns for 6 months at an mma gym and stop 99.9% of doubles the world could ever throw at you. Don't try these things though, your best bet if you plan on fighting trained grapplers while not knowing how to grapple is to understand that if you get to the ground you're going to get molested. Grapplers put hours, days, months, years into the ability to hold a man down and potentially kill him. If you think you'll nulify all that work with this you're delusional.

      Dude this shit pisses me off so much because you know some kid is gonna watch this, think he's got it covered, and get the shit kicked out of him. I get why people find these videos appealing. I boxed for years before starting to learn to grapple. My boxing doesn't mean shit if I can't stay on my feet. It sucks to have to start all over in a way, but I'd be lying to myself if I thought it was this easy.

    • @IHateHandleNames
      @IHateHandleNames 5 лет назад +4

      @@sportsmanrob4625 it's such horse-shit. That double the dude threw was horrible. You could sprawl on him all day with his head down like that. Then he said "it's basically just a spear". No, Goldberg, it's not. There are like 5 different types of doubles. You can power through. You can lift. You can duck-under and take the back. You can use it to get your opponent to post on you then start working upper body throws. His lack of knowledge is so obvious. The single was pretty laughable too. If he was a state champ he'd have taken Jake down within seconds of them playfully wrestling.

    • @noahkail5066
      @noahkail5066 5 лет назад +3

      Yeah being a wrestler for 17 years and wrestling in college I have noticed that heavyweights are not the best to learn shooting techniques from. Heavyweight style and technique differs from every other weight class so much. You guys are exactly right with the head and chest needing to be up. And a lot of people will teach forehead in the belly of sternum when shooting a double leg even though head to the outside is good as well, in a fight shooting with the head outside can put you in a guillotine especially with your head down like that. Just watch ufc title fight werdum vs valasquez.

      While the technique was atrocious I can tell you that I use these takedowns all the time and don't get guillotine. Leg attacks are three part. The shot itself is the middle. The set up is the most important because it makes the finish easier and the finish will keep you safe from guillotine or strikes and will also afford you the ability to end up in a good controlling position as the action goes to the ground. I love when I get someone that tries the guillotine while I'm finishing a good double leg because if they hang on you just reach up and lock hands around the head and choke them out with your shoulder.

    • @kickstartgaming69
      @kickstartgaming69 6 лет назад +9

      Greekwrestler900 I hate to tell you but if you are fighting a jiu jitsu guy, they are gonna pull guard, guillotine you, and there is fuck all you can do. Just because it hasn't happened to you doesn't mean it's proper technique. To do a single or double its head to stomach, or against any so potent fighter you will just lose.

    Great video. I like that you teach that in a street fight, you don't want to keep rolling around on the ground with your opponent, but rather try to disengage and get out of there. The street is not the same as a padded matt that is free of debris and obstructions. And even an clean and open paved parking lot will soon be a cheese grater for both fighters regardless of their skills on the ground.

      Wrestlers don't move like this actor whom he brought ...even if someone will say heavy weights don't shoot ...their moves and angles are way different from this American football spear tackle ...that move will let a wrestler/grappler kill you ...it could work against a takedown from average Joe only ...so please try to learn something that stops wrestling like wrestling or bjj

  • @kobiesboxing4956
    @kobiesboxing4956 7 лет назад

    In the past I've looked at sprawing as only being a good ideal to stop a take down if you're as big of a guy as the guy that's trying to take you down. But not such a good ideal if you're a much smaller person than the pursuing wrestler in which I still feel like that. But those other moves you showed might be good take down defense even if you're the much smaller man. But any way I got my own way of stopping a take down that involves countering the take down artist with strikes.

    What happens when they do an arm drag or get a gable grip behind your shoulder? Or better yet when you sprawl and they go for the underhook and start going for your back?
    There is an incorrect assumption here that the only way a person can be taken to the ground is by double or single leg takedown. Also putting your arm across the face like that is not going to make them spin around.
    If you want to know how to stop a grappler you have to know how to grapple.

    I won’t pretend to know if this would or wouldn’t work as I haven’t tried it. I may post back later if I ever have the opportunity to test it out. But my preference would be to just drop downward elbows on the top of their skull. There’s a knockout point there and it’s the quickest and most trusty thing I can think of for my skill level. There are better ways to handle these takedowns, but I’m not good enough to pull them off yet.

    Good takedowns but bad shot for a takedown. Bending at the waist and ducking your head is a good way to catch a knee or be thrown into a headlock. Dropping the inside leg and remaining head up posting off the knee would be beneficial for a takedown.(Double leg)

  • @ShowForGamers
    @ShowForGamers 7 лет назад

    I'm just happy is not like some other channels that think punching or kicking then as block for a takedown it something possible. But, Maybe don't get a wrestler that's too big to do takedowns like that. If a wrestler that big if going to hurt you he's going to throw or trip you mostly. Try a smaller guy because they are faster and will show you how to get around the sprawl like every wrestler can do.
