I am getting back into karting after a 20 year break. Your videos have helped me sooooo much. Prepping was pretty rare in central Florida where I grew up. Keep these videos up!
For the Vega yellows, we race at my buddies track. I started back up two yrs ago. Last year was getting used to the kart trying diff set up. It’s a vision 1 tri set legend. Little old but it’s all about fun for us. After watching ur video I’m glad I went with the Vega yellow mcs thick’s for dirt over the thins buddy went through 3sets of thins last year. Which prep for a track that’s loose in the begging well peeped with water. It usually gets perfect right as sun goes down.
Great video! I run a winged, modified kart class and I've ran all thee off these tires. With the extra downforce and power, I would say that the Vega yellows or Maxxis are a must for the class. The thin sidewalls on Burris (even 55s) will have excessive warping and their overall construction is less consistent. I've had really good luck on both Vega yellows and Maxxis which can take far more abuse. They do have less rubber on top though and I have corded rears in a matter of 3 weekends of racing.
Great video for comparison. I’ve only really had a year of experience with Dirt Karts and running in Open/Rwyb. Most of my luck with Burris 33s have been on really tacky surfaces in arena races with tighter corners. The compound is hard enough to help unhook the back I’d the kart enough to get it to rip the center of the corner with very little wheel input at all. I did try Vega yellows on the same surface and the grip is almost too much to the point where I could not unhook the back of the kart no matter what I did. I really want to try Vega yellows on a harder dry slick surface which a lot of the racetracks in the Northwest are like. Your point about Vega yellows taking prep really well is 100% spot on. Compared to Burris taking prep, it’s crazy how gooey and sticky the Vegas get.
I have realized that different chassis like different tire brands and some handle better with different tire brands could you please do a video to shed some light on why that is?
@@kart6t3_ben definitely is 3. I was lucky last week and won a set of 3 maxxis of the bad ass kart channel called "Frank's outdoor life". I've been out of the race scene for a minute and setting up to go back in. I haven't ever heard for a dog leg set. New one to me. Lol
I’m a little confused with Duro dropping and track surfaces, In my head I would assume a hard dry track would want a soft duro tire for grip, and Harder tire on a sticky track to avoid engine bogging. But I keep getting told the opposite is there anything you can help me out with on this.
Yes I can do a dedicated video on this at a later date. It does sound counter productive but they are correct. Hard track hard tire. I’ll try and explain it a bit better.
Tennessee north GA north Alabama are a lot of Burris Only tracks. They run Maxxis in the Carolinas because most of the tracks is Maxxis only Liberty is the only open tire track I know of.some of the tracks are using Reaper tires in Reaper tire classes to combat the pros and trailers full of tires ($$$$$$) South Ga are trying it with Cobra tires. but nobody will put a reaper or cobra up against a Maxxis
@@bonedar333 could be just manufactured in the same facility?. Moores and Chester Hester are two different promoters of tires. Like Moores Kings and Unilli before.
Im sort of a fence rider with a set of burris 33’s.i hear and see so many people do so much with these tires.and half of it i feel like they do it out of obsession atleast running the 2-3 tracks that i run.i mean everyone says run this duro around 52 and just about any set ya buy in my area they are prepped and duro about that.lol and ya have guys dumping hundreds of dollars in prep.and the end result is all the same.i dont man.i guess the kiss method is greatest.and ya get a consistent tire..
It seems to be the tire that needs the least prep for the tracks they work on the best. But yes, prepped/ cut /staggered Burris is a good business to be in for a tenth or two.
I run vega thins only and everyone I know does as well here in north Florida on red clay. I never see anything but vega yellow thins here. I inside them with 4-5 oz. Duro them down to 28-34. Goat pee the outside. maxxis are worthless here absolutely no grip.
Wow. I know Vega are bigger in Florida like NY I assume do to some of the sand content in Florida. I was on Maxxis at the Grand Nationals in 2019 at Jasper as many others were too.
I've had good luck on Maxxis and Vega yellows. At penns creek most people do run Vega yellows in the wing class I run but that's mainly because they require less prep to get them to the same durometer.

That’s awesome. Thank you for watching.
I am 60, haven't raced since I was 30. You make me want a kart again.
That’s awesome! Some people loose the drive, and I can understand. I just don’t ever wanna. 😁

Maybe something to fire the tire off that likes water. Something like Track Tac Orange or a lighter med prep of your choice.
Here in Nebraska and Kansas mostly everyone is on maxxis but the Hoosier tread is what everyone runs on the out of box/ predator class

Burris have there place but yes I agree.

Absolutely. Both have their place and preferred surface. Thanks for watching.

I like this idea a lot. Written down.
Hey buddy can you explain what a dog let set is and why they are considered a set?
Hmmmm maybe a set of three. Companies sell RF RR and LR sets because the LF barely touches or wears out.

Both the Reaper and Cobra tires intrigue me. I’ve had the luxury of open tire in uas for a lot of years.
@@kart6t3_ben wonder if they are not the same tire different logo

I have a set of 44s u want them im an hour south of Geneva
Vega on asphalt yellow, white and blue. That decision is typically air temp driven. The yellow gets too hot and will get too sticky.
Good call. Most of my experience is with yellows then blues. Had 1 set of whites and was kinda meh on them.
@@kart6t3_ben White is a very underrated tire. Yellow and whites are my favorites
They're really not that good at taking prep, the vega yellows i use, i must be doing something wrong
Really? yellows suck up prep pretty good for me.
If you get a chance man touch on treaded tires sometimes.
I can try. I havnt ran them in a long time but can give some of my opinions on them.
Ben what's good
