Una grande voce magnifica un grande esecutore uno degli più Grandi Tenori senza sminuire nessuno ed un grande Direttore di Orchestra Bravissimo Magnifico
They don't call him Placido Domingo for nothing. The fact that he's an autodidact, a commoner who fought for his rightful place among vocal royalty, just makes it all the more evident that he is the greatest tenor ever. Of course, the King of Opera is a crown no one would ever bestow on anyone else. Period. All Newsweek did is come along and make money for themselves by documenting it on a cover. We crowned him. They simply noticed.
@@Darksaga28 You fart sniffers never bring receipts to justify your bigotry, just your snobbishness. You like the voices you like, but you can't call any of them the greatest, aside from Caruso who reigned for a century, and be right unless and until you bring proof. Just holding your opinion or preference for certain voices is not good enough. You're not dealing with an amateur who will simply cave to your arrogance. So either prove your case or sod off. Domingo has the receipts and you know it, but will never admit it.
I had this Cd years ago. I remember it said he went to the studio right after doing an opera since his voice was well warm, and the date is correct it is 1968. This Cd is still available and has the information and date right on it.
This version flows as smoothly as virgin olive oil, but, tastes like honey. There are many great renditions of this song, but, this is the cream of the crop!
@DTGeek155 To the contrary: he had been singing exclusively tenor for a good 8 years at least when he made this recording - and he had sung a good many leading roles in Tel Aviv and at the New York City Opera. 1968 was the year in which he made his Met debut (in October), as Maurizio de Saxe in Cilea's ADRIANA LECOUVREUR.
@@Darksaga28 You need to watch the three tenors concerts to understand who has the power...Carreras, Pavarotti and Domingo sang the same songs, same notes, so Domingo never sound short of talent and it's also the most prepared of the three with more life achievements than anybody! @@Darksaga28 Caruso too? His was the high B range. Your opinion of "old italian technique" is quite telling. What makes you think Domingo wasn't trained in that technique? Italian voice pedagogy has been on the wane for a while now, which is a pity. No, what you are is a snob for light lyric girly Italian tenors. Lauri-Volpi praised Domingo for being so very good so very young. So now I know you're just an Italian boy of some age who's mad that Real Madrid keeps kicking your futbol club's ass.
A great tenor and the best of the three tenors in my opinion. He also protected his voice by not singing to many heavy roles until he was older,. He even sang Wagner later on.
Talking about power? Masters of the trade! I don't know crap! But I saw all the three tenors concerts, and guess what! The most powerful voice was Domingo's Silky Pavarotti and very descent Carreras. My respect to all.😂 Happy Thanksgiving to all.

@jd7x7jd What about other tenors? Do you think singers have no clue what great singing is about? I know that Domingo conducts and plays piano and perhaps some other instruments as well but I want to feel that a voice has no boundaries even if every voice has, but the illusion is important to me! Domingo never gets me spellbound like Pertile, Tucker, Del Monaco, Vickers, Corelli, Filippeschi or even Merli. I choose those voices because they are just as or even more dramatic then Placido Domingo.
muy buena version, aunque con 27 años, su voz no era esa , por ejemplo la que pudimos escuchar en la version de 1988 en el Met con Turandot. Muy bien por ti, Placido.
As a massive fan, this is not Mr.Domingo's best version. It is one of the worst, to tell the truth. The one from 1970 is far better; so is the Met's opening in 1987. This recording does not do many favors to him. In fact, it skews the perspectives of some, which brings up the never-ending debate of who is the best.
@SFT24 I don´t hate Domingo he is just overated singingwise. He is not a bad singer his upper register just ain´t among the hundred best tenors in the 20th century.

Greatest tenor ever? Over Lauri-Volpi, Gigli, Bjorling, Caruso, Corelli, Del Monaco, Fleta?? You are either kidding or don't know much about opera

Evviva tutto bello ingolato.

Best singer
Even at this early age Domingo strains on the B-Natural and it sounds sour
Don't confuse strain with power! Everybody straines with high notes, whether is a b natural c5 or anything above a5! Happy Thanksgiving.
