Easily the best scene in the entire film. This is Superman, saving lives. You dont need to pit the man against giant robots or aliens. Show him making a difference in natural disasters, its awe inspiring.
It's just good imagery. It symbolizes that Superman, like Atlas, always has the world on his shoulders. It's like how no matter what incarnation Superman will be in a cross pose at some point or another.
People can criticize this movie all they want i still do after 10 years of its release but you have to admit at least superman in this movie actually saves peoples lives its his first and foremost priority unlike man of steel
The reason people were so harsh is they thought this movie was going to be a reboot to coincide with batman begins which would lead to a justice league had this movie been called superman begins it wouldn't have been as hated
Had they concentrated more on the story, this could've work as a sort-of "bridge" between the Reeve films while also setting up the vast DC universe, *_had_* they gone down that route. Sometimes, I wish they had stuck with Kevin Smith's _Superman_ _Lives_ script all the way, it *_could've_* worked.

He then slams Zod into a building full of people. That's what destruction porn is.
+Xavier Taylor There are 2 scenes in which clark doesnt give a fuck about the destruction he is causing. 1: when he is angry at zod for threatening his mother and he destroy a corn silo and a gad station. 2: Zod throws a car at superman and he just moves to evade it cousing a parking lot building to crumble. I love the movie and would defend it bt i cant deny those two scenes. They purposely placed those scenes.

Superman is always aware of his surroundings during his battles. He might not succeed in stopping collateral damage or deaths but you see him doing everything in his power to take the fight elsewhere, because of how much he cares. For example in Death of Superman, there was deaths and destruction but you could see his efforts to try and save everyone during the fight. In MOS he just kept fighting without regard of anyone's safety. The deaths and destruction never bothered him in the slightest.
I love this scene, Singer did a really good job showcasing Superman's power...too bad the script and few mis-casting let the movie down. Brandon Routh killed it as supes.
If this movie came out tomorrow people would love it. People don't know how good they have it until they don't have it anymore. It's sad that someone like Zack Snyder had to go and ruin Superman because people thought Returns was too "boring"

If this film had succeeded in fulfilling fan's goals, it would have fit well in the universe established by Batman Begins. This is a very good compliment to that film. We would have probably had a shared universe earlier too.
I love this superman's Display of super powers, way better than MOS, Just look at him using super cold breath, super hearing, enhanced heat vision, flying faster than fire! it doesnt get any more Sups than that
Yeah he got answers from Jor El about what happened happened to him as a baby, he got answers from Jonathan Kent on how he found him, he got answers from General Zod about his plan & what happened to his Father. I kind of agree on his transition, we don't see the same transition as we from bruce wayne/batman, but I guess we'll see more of that in the 2nd movie since this movie was solely about his origins & adaption to humanity
What Routh and Cavill needed, was a grounded Superman & a damn Smile. Jesus Christ, what they both needed was a more lively Metropolis, bring back the good ol Cheesyness
People still complaining about mos? The dude saved a planet in that film. If he didn't prioritize the world engine as his main objective it would've done away with the earth. The man fought through harsh kryptonian atmosphere and stood up against a gravity beam stronger than earths mass to save 7 billion people.
If he hadn't come to Earth, he wouldn't have to save it in the first place. He called the aliens and could have prevented all that damage in life and property.
@@abelpeter3648 he didn't come to earth at his choice, his father sent him, and even if he didn't send the signal, the military already knew where it was, they would have entered the ship, fought the robot thing, sending the signal anyway
I cant believe people are comparing this Man with wannabe heroes like batman. This Guy is above every other superhero in the entire galaxis. SUPERMAN RULES!
9 year olds?!?!? He cracked Zod's neck and in a dream state he sank in the skeletal remains of humanity...MoS was crap in my opinion, but it was most definitely not for 9 year olds...
I agree, but Man of Steel was not a kids movie by an stretch of the imagination. I've been a Superman fan since I was 5, Man of Steel was a horrible incarnation of the character. The 1977 Superman and the sequel were great movies that both adult and child could watch. Superman Returns was (in my opinion) a successful continuation. Man of Steel was an attempt to dethrone the Marvel films success, as all the recent DC film are trying, instead of making comic book adaption films like Marvel...hence their success.
I grew up with Christopher Reeve Superman, I like 1 & 2, hated 3 & 4 Quest for peace (worst Supes movie), dislike Superman Returns, don´t hate it, And I freaking love Man Of Steel, it´s really true to the comics, it has more depth than Reeves and Smallvlle drama series. yeah, the movie also have it´s flaws, but no movie is perfect. Zack Snyder does a great job with this movie.
+Juan Alejos Yes, he did cause the earthquake, but the cigarette able to light an entire pipeline, and the structural integrity of the buildings (most tall buildings in first world countries nowadays are built to resist earthquakes), along with the mostly unsupported globe on top of the Daily Planet building.
Sam Turnington the cigarette was able to do that because all the pipes where being destroyed by whatever lex did. not one buidling was falling apart. the glass did break. yeah most modern buildings. the buildings here are pretty old. the only problem might be the globe on the top. thats the only real hazard.
Juan Alejos Hi, I guess you could explain the pipeline fissure on Luthor, but the integrity of metal (based on Young's Modulus) shouldn't be that easy to break, or the entire thing should have been affected. As for the buildings, I was speaking of the debris which Superman had used his heat/laser vision on. I hadn't mentioned that the buildings were falling about, I was speaking in terms of debris, but thank you for pointing that out.
because returns was meant to be a spectacular film, with unbelievable action that was meant to blow your minds, it was a solid film but it was an underwhelming film which only mixes nostalgia and wonder, everyone was thinking and still are thinking of what this film could have been, and in two weeks we're gonna find out
In think this is an reference to the Titan Atlas who was condemned by Zeus to carry the world until eternity. Alone. Solitude is/was the price for heroism . The metaphor "carrying the world on his shoulders" was brought to life in this scene.
It's an odd one with this film, I remember seeing it in the cinema being well excited then leaving slightly disappointed. Fantastic directing on Singers part, John movie just lacked that 'something'! Was well up for seeing the sequal tho, apparently it was meant to be Wrath of Zod style! Lets just hope Snuder can bring it all back to top firm!!! Great upload btw!!
I saw this movie on Spike last night and holy shit, what happened to Superman? Superman IS supposed to be a guardian, a savior, a protector, and I'm scared that this is the last movie portrayal of him that truly captures his essence. MoS Superman was all rage, brooding, and depressing and reckless. I like Superman when he is an uplifting inspiration, not when he's an emotionally disturbed murderer. Superman should save lives en masse, not end lives en masse. Oh wait, silly me, not having Superman be portrayed by a foreigner, cause innocent civilians to die by the thousands, evoke 9/11 imagery every time he's in costume, snap necks, brood and mope around, commit genocide against his own race and abandon his trademark red undies and hair curl isn't very "contemporary"/"modern", is it?
I bet you didn't read a single Superman comic. You don't know what the hell are you talking about. MOS shits on Superman Returns. SR is one of the most boring superhero movies i've ever seen. It made me hate Superman. Thank God for Zack Znyder's Man Of Steel , now i'm a Superman fan again.
"Superman should save lives en masse" You DO realize that he saves the ENTIRE PLANET in Man of Steel, don't you? I'd say 7 billion people counts as "en masse".
***** And the few thousand that died in Metropolis is ok? That's were you are wrong. When it comes to saving lives, he'd sacrifice himself. MOS was petty and destructive. It started with the horrible retelling of his story. Jonathan Kent would never had said "Maybe" when Clark asked if he should have let the kids die...he wouldn't have made Clark feel like more of an outcast. That device should never have made it into orbit, let alone activate.
Jim D I believe he's talking about things such as the early days, when Superman used to kill most, if not all, of his villains, Superman #22 where he kills a powerless General Zod and his sub-commanders with green Kryptonite, Action Comics #847 where he kills a Sun Eater for simply doing what nature designed it to do, Action Comics #583 when he brutally killed Mr. Mxyzptlk by trapping him between the Fifth Dimension and the Phantom Zone and tearing him in half, Action Comics #782 where he kills Brainiac 13 and Imperiex by pushing them through a boom tube and sending them right before the beginning of the Big Bang, where they're caught in the explosion, Superman #75 where he kills Doomsday right before dying himself, Superman: Earth One, where he leaves the invading Tyrell from the planet Dheron to die on his exploding ship, and so on, and so forth... No matter how much you love Superman, you have to admit that killing isn't necessarily something new to him. Yes, he does try to avoid it and find another way, but besides the death of Mxyzptlk, which was more of an accident than intentional, Superman has justified all of the deaths mentioned. Also, these are all Pre 52. To the best of my knowledge, Superman hasn't killed anybody yet in the New 52, except for a Kryptonian dragon, which, if memory serves right, was already dying anyways and was more of a mercy killing.
Love how Superman finds the one car on that street that miraculously took no damage throughout the whole ordeal and that's where he places the big globe. In the real America the owner would sue superman and claim he was so emotionally distraught he can't work for 5 years.
This is an experienced Superman who has embraced his role and been doing his thing for years, and here mostly catching a few things. Man of Steel features a Superman who is brand new, doesn't have much experience using his powers, and finds himself battling to the death with Zod who is hell-bent on dominating then destroying all of mankind. It's hard to catch falling debris when you have a World engine and rampaging Kryptonian to deal with! Ever read the comics or watch the animated show?
I like it how people like to ignore the fact that in MoS a rookie Superman didn't destroy anything, actually saved the entire planet and say this is the only movie where he saved the day. MoS is no masterpiece, at least it was consistent about Superman being a new guy to the job and his powers being slowly discovered by himself. that being said. this video right here is my ideal Superman, but I like Cavill's too.
Easily the best scene in the entire film. This is Superman, saving lives. You dont need to pit the man against giant robots or aliens. Show him making a difference in natural disasters, its awe inspiring.

And in this one scene alone explains why he’s called Superman.
You just made my day.... this is what superhero movies are missing but nope they want their characters badass and cool and who gives a f*** about the civilians...
Some people hate on this movie. I think it was fucking perfect
It's art. Anything that Singer makes is art
this is still one of my fav superman movies.
He actually saved all of them!
Yes all of them. That is Superman.
+srb9 The difference between this Superman and Man of Steel's "Superman" who just let thousands die because he liked to smash buildings.
XD
+thibaldus3 *That* clown is *not* Superman. For the reason you just stated among other things.
one of the best scenes in Superman Returns packing with action, outstanding performance!
Awesome scene. With one thing after another. I love this movie so much.
this what zack snyder should realize not destroy the freaking city
superman didn't do that tho....
Tiger Bub the city was always destroyed in the animated series
Tiger Bub zod destroyed the city pay attention next time u watch a movie pal 👌
Well not exactly... Avengers destroyed many cities and fans are fine about it...
The best superhero
Said no other one like BATMAN.
Annnddd there was someone sitting in that car at the end.
LMAO
Its pretty simple. Any Superman movie needs a "Superman saves people from disaster" montage.
Needs less color, more brooding, more vengeance. Why isn't it raining?
Snyder alert, snyder spy in the base
Thanks Synder for including superman in a transformers script
I remember superman returns came into theaters when I was 6, wow time flys
Awesome! Superman saved people! Maybe in the next Superman movie, we might see Superman save people.
+Michael Myers Oh wait. It's directed by Zack Snyder and written by David Goyer? OK, Suoerman will mope around and moan about saving people.
+Michael Myers Gotta love a Superman that hates life. Way to go, Warner Bros!
If this film had succeeded in fulfilling fan's goals, it would have fit well in the universe established by Batman Begins. This is a very good compliment to that film. We would have probably had a shared universe earlier too.
Superman vs Final Destination
.
lol
Speaking of that, this film and Final Destination 3 came out the same year!
Delizie di pollo
I love this superman's Display of super powers, way better than MOS, Just look at him using super cold breath, super hearing, enhanced heat vision, flying faster than fire! it doesnt get any more Sups than that
it was nice the way he posed for Jimmy. helped his photographer career :)
Idky always loved that turn around mid fly heat vision part on falling glass for some reason..
What Routh and Cavill needed, was a grounded Superman & a damn Smile.
Jesus Christ, what they both needed was a more lively Metropolis, bring back the good ol Cheesyness
L Kururugi Routh's Superman was good, the movie had a terrible plot though.
no doubt
"Listen here sir, you put on your insurance claim that Superman crushed your car with a giant Daily Planet?"
I know Henry is gone, but before James's takeover, evil Superman was coming and I loved the idea of Brandon's Supes coming back to face Henry's supes.
superman returns was a great throwback, but man of steel is perfect for the modern age.
I cant believe people are comparing this Man with wannabe heroes like batman. This Guy is above every other superhero in the entire galaxis. SUPERMAN RULES!
Man Of Steel is movie for 9 years old kids who just happy to watch Superman punch something..
9 year olds?!?!? He cracked Zod's neck and in a dream state he sank in the skeletal remains of humanity...MoS was crap in my opinion, but it was most definitely not for 9 year olds...
you think..but 9year kids love superman
I grew up with Flash and Wally, since it never happened yet tomorrow perhaps.
Metropolis seems to be made for the sheer purpose of self-destruction in this scene. How did it even survive before the alien came in.
+Sam Turnington didnt lex do this? the same can be said about other heroes like in NYC and gotham.
Sam Turnington
the cigarette was able to do that because all the pipes where being destroyed by whatever lex did. not one buidling was falling apart. the glass did break. yeah most modern buildings. the buildings here are pretty old. the only problem might be the globe on the top. thats the only real hazard.
+Sam Turnington Shut up Lex.
Love Perrys face at THAT moment.
Brandon Routh Nice Superman 👍
He has finally a photo of superman!
Superman has the whole world in his hands.
because returns was meant to be a spectacular film, with unbelievable action that was meant to blow your minds, it was a solid film but it was an underwhelming film which only mixes nostalgia and wonder, everyone was thinking and still are thinking of what this film could have been, and in two weeks we're gonna find out
Now that is Metropolis. Best version of any recent Superman film or tv show. MoS Metropolis looks just like any generic American city.
HELL YEAH!! i think the youth of today were expcting over the top action that they felt dissapointed. i thought this movie was great.
I Love this Scene!
I thought he could fly really fast and save everyone from the bullets and explosions!
This and the airplane scene were awesome. I don't care what anyone says, I liked the movie. Didn't love it but liked it.
the owner of the green car that gets crushed shouted: "Oh, no! My crappy car!"
"Superman should save lives en masse"
You DO realize that he saves the ENTIRE PLANET in Man of Steel, don't you? I'd say 7 billion people counts as "en masse".
***** Who are you referring to? I have about 400 Superman comic...I stopped at the 52 garbage..
Owner of the station wagon: GOD DAMMIT SUPERMAN!
batman -"knock knock
superman- "who's there?"
batman-" beek"
superman- "beek who?...oh no....please "
batman-"BECAUSE I'M BATMAN!!!!"
Now dats' da Man of Steel! That's the Superman that took out Doomsday! Ooooooh! Goosebumps!
Love how Superman finds the one car on that street that miraculously took no damage throughout the whole ordeal and that's where he places the big globe. In the real America the owner would sue superman and claim he was so emotionally distraught he can't work for 5 years.
It was Clark's car.
Last I read his costume is made out of some pretty tough shit that can withstand a lot.
Saving people the right way! ;( Gotta buy this on Blu-Ray!
Reeve's Superman would have put everything back in its place and repair the damages. This always comes to my mind whenever I watch these scenes.
Aswin Shobhan In BvS, he murders a terrorist and threw Doomsday into a populated building.
Basement Dweller We don't know what happened to the terrorists and WHAT? threw Doomsday into a populated building? that didn't happen.
Superman has a small barrier around his body that makes anything super close to his skin gain his invincibility, that's why his costume is skin tight.
