By far one of the best real RUclips channels, actually shows what it takes to make it as a small farmer. Keep it up! My dad and I are always tinkering keeping our hay equipment running to avoid payments!
I bet your dad was probably still from the 'hay wire, electrical tape and pliers' repair kit to get you through to the end of the day. All of the computer crap today just makes me ill.
Well dang JT. You are getting a nice fleet of rescues , Old iron is the best iron . It is good to watch you perform your magic on these finds you find.I mean you are capable to repair most anything you set your mind and wrenches to. Planting season will be quick upon us here in Michigan , so I send you good vibes for a healthy planting season.. Keep on wrenching..
My first truck I drove when I started on the railway back in 1965 was a International. They made great trucks back then. Thanks J.T. she may be old but you will get er all fixed up.
Those old binders are tough as nails. That is a electric shift two speed. If you have power to the motor when you flip the switch to high or low , it's probably a stuck motor or corroded contacts on the limit switch which is inside the box the motor sits on. It stops the motor in each direction. The only problem with that truck, and you will learn to work around it is it's a Tag axle and will get stuck easily. You'll really apreciate Gus for his Twin Screw Drive. Nice truck! Subbed for a while now enjoy your Adventure. TGP
Things to look out for are worn king pins. This series was know for this problem. Carb… any more than a 600 single pumper would just dump fuel down into the motor. The two barrel is fine for the 345. JT you can adjust the little arm on the accelerator pump to make it pump earlier. I grew up with these trucks and I LOVE them.
Freight train coming through. All aboard! Actually, it sounded more like a ship horn. Good call on rebuilding the carb. Not sure JT, but I think Massey Red would brighten that lemon up. Blessings.
Love those old Internationals, good decision to keep the old carb. Those engines were put in everything from school buses, grain trucks, fuel trucks, and combines. They are "bulletproof", most have had the piss run out of them and keep on plugging, I've had a couple over the years. One had been a county truck, then a water truck for a Co-op, a grain truck for a farmer which I bought from at a farm sale for 400. and then mine. I used it for hauling a little gravel, hauling stuff around the farm, and going to breakfast occasionally, a friend used it when he stripped his roof off. The engine was rebuilt when the co-op had it. It is now sitting in a farm shed as a backup grain truck, I sold it for 1500. One thing I noticed, the engine never stayed clean, it was cold-blooded. Oh, and I had to weld the manifold also, those were notorious for cracking. Hope you have as good of results as I did.
We had old grain truck just like sully we used as a roofing truck and I had to weld the manifold on it & my weld held for the 5yrs I worked for that guy
Paint it the way it is now yellow, white, and red just new paint. Love it when people have a nice truck and they paint to look like it was just thrown together. Nice truck no matter what you paint it
Hi JT. I think you should paint the grain hauler, white with red JT’s Barn and Grill on the doors. Or JT Farms on the doors. The red lettering, would definitely pop! Heck, the cab is already white, so it should paint up nice, using new white paint.👍😆😮
😁 BLACK ! Covers the flaws in body panels. 2 speed rear is easy to tell if it is ELECTRIC or VACUUM ..Hoses or wires ? Easy replacement of the motor. IT could be a FUSE or bad wiring. thanks
Between the carb rebuild and sealing the vacuum leaks, that thing should run *_way_* better. Just make sure you take care of the vacuum leaks because they cause carbs to work far less efficiently - you get lean conditions, and the atomization of the fuel is less efficient. Fixing the vacuum leaks will make sure the carb gets all the air it needs to mist the gas properly. Makes it more responsive and really reduces hesitation.
Hey JT, on marketplace there are 28 used trusses, 4/12 pitch with 1 ft overhang. They're at Cayuga, IN Hope you can use them on your barn addition. Keep up the good work
If the Centri-Vac governor on that old Holley doesn't work, get used to using the tachometer. Those "modern" 'binder V-8s will bend the pushrods if you wind them much past 4000 RPM. Ask me how I found out.
The old IH trucks we had were electric 2 speed rear axles, I have seen an old 2 speed vacuum shift on an old 1946 Chevy Dump Truck, whatever it is, you’ll figure it out. Shifting them takes a little practice and finesse. It would look pretty sharp, red or black. I would go red, you might get a discount buying a bunch of red for the 1800 and Sully. Thanks for the videos. Have a good weekend, JT.
An old automotive mechanic told me yrs ago to put about 1/2 cup atf oil in the gas tank. He said it helps clean the carburetor plus keeps the gaskets from drying out . Works good for my 427 and 366 as farm trucks they do a lot of sitting. Sea foam works wonders as well. The gas nowadays is so dry with the ethanol added
Hey Joe,,,,great video. Amazing how much a little tlc can change a gas engine. Vacuum lines, carb repair, plugs, cap, rotor, wires, etc. Gunslinger red with shiny aluminum wheels,,nice.
Those 2 peice rims worked for Lotta yrs on even bigger trks. Just caution had to be taken when changing tires. You even had to make sure they were seating up square on the daton hub .
Right! Don’t have the resources to do a small grain bin so I thought an extra truck would be just as good. That’ll keep me going in beans all day and I don’t have to handle everything twice
Add engine restore to it. I'm not a snake med guy, but that stuff really works! I've had several vehicles I've used it on. I guaranty you will be amazed!
I like that school bus yellow hood. How about Yellow for ole Sully? I love to see your old stuff made to run, figured out, and get worked. When you get the two speed sorted let’s see a full gears road ripper.
Excellent video JT :). Red & Black together be excellent colors together and thought rebuilt parts cure carb also too ! Nice Air Horns Lol yes wash make look nice !
Wouldn't it be nice if you cleaned off the floor in their, and overlay paint on a concrete bonding agent available at the ready mix plant and pour 3.5 inches of fibered concrete over lay on the top concrete floor in your barn that's there now just while you're pouring concrete in your new shop the same time ,,it would make a new place to work on small projects or project storage for sure😊
Nice work although a nice big infrasonic parts cleaner might be a good investment, that carb would have been shining like new, and with ultrasonic it vibrates all the blocker shit out of it. Workshop is coming on, looking forwards to seeing more. Where is the Yellow Peril? Looking forwards to seeing what you do with her. Keep up the good work mate..
There's some frost plugs in the head under the intake that will rust through and create vacuum leaks. You can see them with a small mirror under the intake if it's not caked with oil, more than likely it's caked up with rust proofing pretty good. Good ol truck 👍
Oh, but you are so good at Massey Red & Silver. Why stop now ... Massey red and silver with some black bits here and there. Silver rims with red spokes. Silver grill surround the black center. Red cab and hood with silver roof top (to keep the suns heat at bay ...). You know, the go to the dance paint scheme 😁
I love the terms "today" & "probably " those usually turn in tomorrow & not going to happen for me. Does sully or gus have a bigger grain box? Back in my roofing days my boss had a old grain truck just like sully we used we called her Bertha
By far one of the best real RUclips channels, actually shows what it takes to make it as a small farmer. Keep it up! My dad and I are always tinkering keeping our hay equipment running to avoid payments!
Wow, thanks! I appreciate that!
I bet your dad was probably still from the 'hay wire, electrical tape and pliers' repair kit to get you through to the end of the day. All of the computer crap today just makes me ill.
Those old International trucks run forever, might as well paint her up , I got to get me a horn like that for mine 👍🏻
Right on! Love the barker horn
Those 345’s are just plain bulletproof. She still has many years of service left. She sounds good!
Thanks! Hoping it will make many trips to town!
I’d paint that truck plum crazy purple if it was me. Tint the windows, you’ll be the coolest grain hauler in the neighborhood 👍🍻
That would be cool!😉
That’s what I love about this class, you never know what system you are going to learn about lol
Good point 😆

Those old trucks are hard to beat, sounds pretty darn good.
Thanks!
Flames. Red hot flames. 🔥
I like flames 😉
My first truck I drove when I started on the railway back in 1965 was a International. They made great trucks back then. Thanks J.T. she may be old but you will get er all fixed up.
Right on!
I think a red and white paint scheme would look nice too
A Holley beats a Kung-fu-buretor every time. Keep up the good work, JT. Hi to Fluffy.
Sure does! Glad o fixed this one!

That truck would look better in red imo and even yellow would be nice, great video again 👍

Man, call that international truck uncle Henry
😂
Freight train coming through. All aboard! Actually, it sounded more like a ship horn.
Good call on rebuilding the carb. Not sure JT, but I think Massey Red would brighten that lemon up.

Thanks! That is actually the horn from the James R Barker Great Lakes freighter
I knew it was the Barker Bark instantly
Every farmer needs a yellow binder grain truck. Now you need an IH pickup.
nice to see someone able to work on a carburetor.
Thanks!
Awesome work. How about a really dark green paint? As dark as the GMC, but green.
That’s a good idea! I like that better than black!
That truck and forklift turned out to be great additions. The posters are also a great addition to the shop.
I think so too! 😉
What ya'll need when welding the manifold is high nickel rod. Might cost a little but will stay on, maybe. Black is FINE JT.
Right!
Old Binders hauled a lot of grain to the elevator in the 60's to the 80's, I would say paint him IH light Green.

Nice one j.t that was nice little fix you need them now and then.
You got that right!
Hi JT. I think you should paint the grain hauler, white with red JT’s Barn and Grill on the doors. Or JT Farms on the doors. The red lettering, would definitely pop! Heck, the cab is already white, so it should paint up nice, using new white paint.👍😆😮

It has the electric motor. I discovered that after I put this video up unfortunately. I’ll have to dig into that
Learn something new everyday I wouldn't have thought about switching carburetors

A IH 345CID was the 1st big engine I ever rebuilt. We had a 76' Loadstar grain truck. Great engine for sure. Good old IH!

Gotta Love the Holley Carbon Makers
I do love a Holley!
massey red paint would look good with the massey fleet

Dag gone JT. We could sure use you here! Us bricklayers turn everything into a cartoon. Killing equipment daily! Greetings from the Eastern Shore!

Great result 👍 and black is the new cool 👍👍

Lucas oil treatment works wonders in Ford overhead cam engines. I use three quarts of Lucas & 3 quarts of oil, purrs like a kitten.

It's only fitting you being from Michigan. The best horn and the loudest anywhere. The horn from the James R. Barker. Thanks
Bingo! That is the mother of all ship horns!
Someone had fun with the Barker Bark........
Truck runs pretty good now........
Thanks!
Holly's are the best carbs. JT you are a re good mechaneck.😊
Right on! Thanks!
Go with the black!!!!!
I can't remember if you had any of that "custom" blue left over, after painting Gus. But, that would make for a tidy looking fleet.
I do not, but I think I can mis up something very close!
I think painting it black would make it awful hot to drive in the summer heat
Very good point!
Nice old international JT.
Thanks!
Nice job.👍
Thanks 👍
2 trucks is good to have for extra storage until you get to the elevator and helps with getting grain out of the field.

Coke Cherry Zero....I see you are also a man of culture...lol

Hey JT, nice truck, stainless Steel welding rods work great on cast iron manifold cracks
Right on, this one is in pretty sad shape, might have to just replace it
I got claustrophobia just watching you under that truck!
Yikes! It’s roomier than it looks 😉
We had an old 60's something B190 corn binder twin stick grain truck, you didn't take it to the Brickyard but you couldn't overload it either.
Right! Get the job done, but not in a hurry lol
I had that motor in a scout 2 I loved it
Right on! Seems like a good one so far! Sounds nice too!
I like that school bus yellow hood. How about Yellow for ole Sully? I love to see your old stuff made to run, figured out, and get worked. When you get the two speed sorted let’s see a full gears road ripper.
