Hi there! It seems the ich777 repository has dissapeared from app store? Can I just use the linux repository the same way with the same steps you have described in the video? Thanks!
I have Plex and tried jellyfin on my windows system. Results: Needed 3 installs to finally get it working. One movie folder added without a problem, after that no folders I try to add show up. Installed app doesn't find the server automatically on the network. Tried 5 different movies where jellyfin was only be able to play one. So the windows version is not that good in my opinion. I would suggest Kodi or Plex with a lifetime pass as they work as expected
JellyFin has been the one project I’ve been interested in to compete. I might give it another look with the themes plugins. The UI is my biggest set back for it, but the stability looks much nicer
One thing to note which is quite important, you want to add your media library mapping at the very last minute. Otherwise you have to trigger a metadata refresh on everything as well as the scan in date will already be set and doesn’t change after the fact. Other than that, absolutely love Jellyfin.
I changed my server settings so that it checks for metadata changes every hour. I even had it check every 15 minutes for a long time and it didn't seem to have any detrimental effect on the performance of the server. That way it was constantly updating the metadata whenever files got renamed or new files got added.
I have been happy with jellyfin for over 3 years. Having to pay for plex to even try gpu acceleration is a no go for me. Also the UI is a lot better and feels much more responsive.
Really good quick-start tutorial and guide, and perfect timing too - I was watching with baited breath to see if you had caught 10.8.0 which we just released on Friday night, and you did! I'll definitely be recommending this video to newcomers with UnRaid/Docker setups!
this video finally helped me understand hardware acceleration and how to set it up. went from 130fps transcoding rate at 90% cpu to 410fps at 40% cpu. Thanks :)

Just tried Jellyfin on Windows. Cannot for the life of me get TrueHD 7.1 Atmos to passthrough HDMI to my Sony STRDH790. This is a real shame because, although my current Plex setup will manage this easily, I would much prefer to migrate to Jellyfin. 😒
Don't bother with any of the default anime plugins. Use Shoko aka Shokofin in combination with the dedicated back-end server container. Yes it's more setup, but once it is, things will go a lot more smoothly. Hash-based episode and series recognition and grouping multiple seasons of an anime into one show when the seasons have different titles is SOOO nice! Specials are - if data is available - even presented within the correct seasons, in case you want to watch your Re:Zero special mini episodes like Re:Petit in the correct order along the regular episodes. Makes anime organization and binging bearable for once.
Here's something I didn't expect. I came here to see the plugins, however I was not familiar with bashtop at all. I was about to deploy a prometheus, grafana monitoring stack, but this would do the job perfectly fro my small home server needs
The death of plugin support is what pushed me off of Plex. I no longer have control of my own server so now it's Jellyfin for my movies and TV, Plex for my music exclusively now.
True. Plus it works relatively well on smart tvs. The main issue I run into is video codes not being supported (i.e. x264 on roku, it only supports hevc and av9). But yea total feature parity would be coolio but DAMN that would be hard for a project worked on as a 'hobby'.
Thank you for your input. I tried it myself after watching your vid. Installation and Media Library works great. But i struggle a bit with user management. Plex shows me on start screen all users with custom pictures and than let me enter a 4 digit pin code. But my jellyfin setup always gives me a textbox for username and another textbox for passwords. I really dont want to enter my username and password everytime i login. Do you know how to make jellyfin login screen same as plex login screen? Thank you.
I think you can do most of that with Emby (or at least i am not seeing anything i cannot do), but Emby appears to be a hell of a lot easier to set up. Interesting to see though, and has pretty much convinced me to stick with Emby and not bother with Jellyfin. Note I did pay for the lifetime prem pass on Emby, but at £100 (one off payment) or so it was a small price to pay. I tried Plex but was a little untrusting of what was being sent to Plex, plus it looked expensive. I did look at Jellyfin on my Asustor NAS, but it looked complicated to set up, and while I am tech savi, I didn't want the hassle 🙂

Yeah that’s one of the issues with Plex, your reliant on their servers just to be able to access your own. With jellyfin you remove that dependency and it’s completely self hosted
I tried Jellyfin a little while ago and honestly I did not see anything there that would justify using it to replace my (non-paid-for) version of Plex. The only thing I'd be really interested is to see its integration with a DTV card and if/how it could be used with the free-to-air EPG guide. Using Jellyfin to control scheduled recordings and saving the results to a directory that Plex could then present to my TV would be really cool. ( My TV has a native Plex client not a Jellyfin one)

Perhaps a plugin for jellyfin that would allow for browsing/watching RUclips in the same way as the app, but with the ads completely removed. DNS blackholing and messing with the ad-traffic at the network level IS COMPETELY USELESS, having zero effect on Samsung's RUclips app. It will continue to *blast* you with up to 6 ads per video sometimes. Utter mess.
Cody Robibero's website that hosts the manifest for his repo seems to be completely off the internet currently. I get errors in the Jellyfin logs but all the plugins could be installed as far as I can see?
I am wondering if this would work for a non-profit, that needs to have * 'private' videos, like on youtube shared by a direct ambiguous link, and not searchable. * public videos that can be displayed and played as does youtube. And possibly later, a user database and shares based on the person who logs in, and their particular access. Though the first two bullet items would take care of most needs at this time.
If i already have a external HDD full of content that is my main drive, with a new PC coming to be a dedicated server, can i do this and not loses all the data?
Thanks for the videos as always I love Plex and Jelly looks great as well but not worth the hassle with so many people I had to walk through getting connected to my Plex. Plus I'm not a huge fan of the way Jelly spells "Favourites" reminds me of Kodi. Americans spell it favorites. Picky I know :) Still I like to competition!!
Hello ....in Northern England people do talk a lot about Lego. In the Northern English accent it is simply the abbreviation of 'leg over' i.e. " I wouldn't mind getting my Lego with her" ....."he's smiling because he got his Lego last night" ....."Not had my Lego in a while " etc. etc. :)
I found them. The layout of that website/guide is terrible. You need to go to the bottom and click on "Next - Docker Compose" (which is AFTER the "Final Words" and "Support Us" for some bizarre reason) then at the bottom of that page go "Next - Plugins".
Funny you mention having a lego addiction. Personally, I have a velcro addiction. I recently appropriated the household lego to make smartphone and tablet stands. Velcro and lego work well together.
does anyone know how to get the fanart api key working? The links to it always asks me to re-signin and that just takes me to the profile page. Can't see where the api key is supposed to be
This tutorial has really helped me a lot and inspired me to give Jellyfin another chance as I could not get the app to connect to the server on my Tablet or SmartTv. Turns out I needed to update the Server software to the latest version which has now introduced another problem. When I add a new library and set the category to TV Show nothing is brought in. A workaround was to set the category to movie which is not ideal but it works. Has anyone had this problem and know of a fix. Thanks in advance.
Good video and good representation. I am a ~ 1 year long user and so far had basically no problems with it. For the next video I would like either a comparison with Ombi (which is jellyfin compatible AND can even integrate jellyfin users as ombi users) or a separate video about ombi because it is also compatible with emby and plex
I hadn't touched Lego since I was a young teen, and then i found submarine builds online using arduinos and stuff to control the lego motors. Really wish I had kept my old bricks and stuff. Mini computers like Raspberry PIs and Arduinos are the perfect voltage to communicate with those motors if you're unaware and they sell cases that have lego brick tops and bottoms. You don't have to use them to build a submarine, anything with motors or LEDs could be controlled with a micro board.
Cheers for this video. Having trouble getting this one going though. When I try to load the WebUI, I just get a blank page. I'm using a custom network and have shares all configured as per the Trash guide video.
Issue ended up being my adblocker was blocking content. I did already have my server IP whitelisted but had to allow content for Jellyfin as well manually. I also had to add a path for data/media to be able to add my libraries.
Quick question. Just discovered your channel and I tried installing Jellyfin on my QNAP NAS. Testing it alongside plex. I ran into a problem and wanted to know if someone could point in the right direction. I want to add an additional host directory to Jellyfin, but there is not an option to add it in the settings of the docker. I am a complete novice at docker and terminal work, but am looking for any direction on how I can proceed in adding an additional directory on my NAS to it. Thanks.
Hi Roger, You can add as many volumes as you like to pass through to Docker. Not sure what QNAP offers in that way but if it allows you to add another path in the docker template that's the way to do it
@@IBRACORP There is no place to add additional volumes in the container settings, once you have installed the container. When you stop the container, the settings still don't allow additional shared folders. Maybe "Container Station" has a different implementation of dockers.
I love jellyfins ui just dont really understand if i need to pirate movies or shows to watch them on jelly fin or what? Like how do you get movies on there
Rip your DVD-/(4K-)Bluray-Collection (MakeMkv is one good choice) or load sth from the net or other trustworthy sources. Of course both options depend on your local law and your own mindset. I highly recommend to check your local law first. For myself, I decided to ripp my whole collection, because for private use it's allowed and I don't trust websites for pirated things.
Noob here. Playing on Nvidia Shield and even my direct stream is not that great. The cube in other room not too bad. Hd homerun I have no transcoding and is phenomenal on Plex but not on newly installed JF.
moving from plex to jellyfin for the live tv, did have emby, and what I did like with emby premium is the coverart where you can make your own movies and tv shows look like dvd cases, don't suppose you know if there is a way to still do this with jellyfin?
The things I have problems with Jellyfin is the Nvidia Shield client crashes quite often, when watching a movie it will get stuck in a loop or just stop (doesn't crash), no useful intro skip which I have come to like a little too much. What Jellyfin does do better is offline playback and subtitle handling, ofc GPU transcoding for free, and none of the garbage bloat that Plex has been trying to push to the user so you can say a cleaner interface.
Not to mention they don't have a server app available for the shield either. Meanwhile I'm quite happily enjoying running Plex and Emby off my shield and maintaining both server apps is easy using the web browser from a tablet. A lot of people still stuck on using a PC for their media server needs haven't evolved this far yet, perhaps someday.
@@TorrentFiend10 Most people using Jellyfin I wager aren't running it off a PC, they're running it on a dedicated linux server that's also hosting a dozen other services. Their use case isn't compatible with yours.
Yeah, there are customisations you can do to brighten it up to your liking but you would have to tinker a bit. I believe it looks very similar to Emby does it not? Not actually used Emby all that much, will have to give that one a try! You’ll have to let us know if you have any tips or tricks for that video 😁
Well it's an Emby fork. As primary Emby user myself, I think it looks exactly like Emby. It's a bit behind, especially the clients, but I'm looking forward to see them compete.
Jellyfin handles music well. Plex music sucks, unless you like hearing multiple instances of songs playing at the same time out of sync. Jellyfin isn't as good with movies and TV shows, very difficult to have a nice format visually. I have a collection on Jellyfin (new install) that shows a check mark. None of the episodes in this series have been watched. I've checked every season, even tried manually removing the "Played" status. It just remains checked.
JellyFin is cool I wished the UI had a more purple-ish tint🤣 like Plex has a golden-yellow tint Also, can one use rufus in linux, if not then what should one use to create a persistence Live USB?? what about Ventoy ? there is no proper guide on it
@@IBRACORP I hope you cover ALL that Ventoy can do & I mean ALL of it's features There are literally no guides on it (Like the persistence images etc.....)
You can absolutely run it fine without a GPU or any sort of transcoding! The only condition is that you'd need to make sure your clients can do what's called "Direct Play" or "Direct Stream", which means that it will play the media directly without transcoding. You can also entirely disable transcoding in the settings to avoid this happening. With such a configuration you can run it on pretty much anything, even an old Raspberry Pi or low-spec computer.
@@joshuaboniface That's good to know. Earlier things I'd read about setting it up always included instructions for dealing with the GPU, and I assumed that meant it was necessary.
How does Jellyfin still manage to make up names of shows out of thin air? I don't understand. It just somehow makes up like Arrow to be BATMAN etc. (just a made up example). It's utterly horrific compared to Kodi, which is also still as byzantine...but seems to work super consistently for me. Just wish someone would make an GPT-based metadata creator or something. It can't be that hard.
The most important thing to know about Lego is that the plural of Lego is "Lego Bricks". There are no such things as "Lego's" no matter how many Americans use that word.

Absolutely great coverage, and I'm super excited to Jellyseer as well!
Thanks B! Appreciate the kind words!
Well explained! Any suggestions for implementing IntroSkip feature for the TV shows?
I dont have the "Playback" menu to change transcoding options. I tried restarting still nothing.
I am wondering if this would work for a non-profit, that needs to have
* 'private' videos, like on youtube shared by a direct ambiguous link, and not searchable.
* public videos that can be displayed and played as does youtube.
And possibly later, a user database and shares based on the person who logs in, and their particular access.
Though the first two bullet items would take care of most needs at this time.
will those repositories work with emby? I havent had good luck with jellyfin where as emby has been flawless for me
i have a big server this one works way way better
If i already have a external HDD full of content that is my main drive, with a new PC coming to be a dedicated server, can i do this and not loses all the data?
Thanks for the videos as always I love Plex and Jelly looks great as well but not worth the hassle with so many people I had to walk through getting connected to my Plex. Plus I'm not a huge fan of the way Jelly spells "Favourites" reminds me of Kodi. Americans spell it favorites. Picky I know :) Still I like to competition!!
Is there any PlugIns that mange/group m3u file into categories. When I load mine it has everything in a list. Would prefer it categorised if possible.
Hello ....in Northern England people do talk a lot about Lego. In the Northern English accent it is simply the abbreviation of 'leg over' i.e. " I wouldn't mind getting my Lego with her" ....."he's smiling because he got his Lego last night" ....."Not had my Lego in a while " etc. etc. :)
😂
I have a question is it possible to download youtube video for personal use i would like to get some abbriged series to keep
Could you do video instruction uising Nvidia GPU (K620).
I never could get to work on Unriad 6.12.8
Plugin repository links are not in the written docs as far as I can tell. So I can't get them.
I found them. The layout of that website/guide is terrible. You need to go to the bottom and click on "Next - Docker Compose" (which is AFTER the "Final Words" and "Support Us" for some bizarre reason) then at the bottom of that page go "Next - Plugins".
what are the URLs for the repositories?
Funny you mention having a lego addiction.
Personally, I have a velcro addiction.
I recently appropriated the household lego to make smartphone and tablet stands.
Velcro and lego work well together.
I'm having trouble adding content that's in mkv x265 content when aging libraries or just buffers and never add the content
does anyone know how to get the fanart api key working? The links to it always asks me to re-signin and that just takes me to the profile page. Can't see where the api key is supposed to be
Lego are really fun. I have built a surveillance system and server cases all DIY using Lego. Was really fun
Good points about Ombi there. Jellyseer is also something we want to show off for everyone as well but we can certainly revisit Ombi
i use ombi now ,i think its better than jellyseerr at this time , also i use jellyfin
You could have been sitting on a goldmine!
I have the binhex version and when i click on Plugins its only loading...
Can't comment on that since we didn't show using that version.
Have they made a way to edit album artist yet? Before it listed every feature artist under album artist.
I can't find the link in the written doc to the plugin mentioned at 15:50 so I had to type it in manually from the video, was it missed on the doc?
Hi Colin, what plugins was it sorry? You can also submit an edit to the docs and we'd be happy to merge it for others to see
@@IBRACORP never mind, i see them now, i didn't realize there was more than one page, sorry
No problem!
Can you watch it out of your home ? I paid for the Plex pass. And it doesn’t work.
great vid, but crowdsec made me laugh a bit :)
Your site doesn't have the links to the plugin repos
I saw a studio images plugin in the video but don't see where that came from and it isn't showing listed in any repository. Where can I find it?
Haven't added anything other thatn what's show in the video so perhaps in the latest version?
@@IBRACORP I'm running 10.8.0 and don't see it.
Thanks.
Hi Roger,
You can add as many volumes as you like to pass through to Docker. Not sure what QNAP offers in that way but if it allows you to add another path in the docker template that's the way to do it
@@IBRACORP There is no place to add additional volumes in the container settings, once you have installed the container. When you stop the container, the settings still don't allow additional shared folders. Maybe "Container Station" has a different implementation of dockers.
mine just says "No available plugins." even after restart
I stopped using plex when they hid hardware transcoding behind the pay wall. Jellyfin has it free
Do you use webhooks for notifications?
moving from plex to jellyfin for the live tv, did have emby, and what I did like with emby premium is the coverart where you can make your own movies and tv shows look like dvd cases, don't suppose you know if there is a way to still do this with jellyfin?
Can you put the movie file you used in this video?
How can I install the app on my Apple TV?
Is there a way to easily stream jellyfin content to a smart tv?
EDIT: Or how would one suggest playing movies/shows otherwise?
Jellyfin is available as an app so you can install on your tv or cast from your phone
I stream to my LG 50" 4k it uses WebOS which has a jellyfin client.
will running jellyfin affect my computers performance
The things I have problems with Jellyfin is the Nvidia Shield client crashes quite often, when watching a movie it will get stuck in a loop or just stop (doesn't crash), no useful intro skip which I have come to like a little too much. What Jellyfin does do better is offline playback and subtitle handling, ofc GPU transcoding for free, and none of the garbage bloat that Plex has been trying to push to the user so you can say a cleaner interface.
All great points. I do love intro detection as well and hope that can be a mainstream feature here.
But love to cut the bloat from Plex
Not to mention they don't have a server app available for the shield either. Meanwhile I'm quite happily enjoying running Plex and Emby off my shield and maintaining both server apps is easy using the web browser from a tablet. A lot of people still stuck on using a PC for their media server needs haven't evolved this far yet, perhaps someday.
@@TorrentFiend10 Most people using Jellyfin I wager aren't running it off a PC, they're running it on a dedicated linux server that's also hosting a dozen other services. Their use case isn't compatible with yours.
I often consider running Jellyfin along side Emby and Plex but it appears bland.
It's a bit behind, especially the clients, but I'm looking forward to see them compete.
is iGPU transcoding stable in jellyfin (Unnraid) with Alderlake?
Unsure personally, but it's free so why not try?
i can’t find where to accept the rules in Discord
I logged into open subtitles but its not doing anything
Can't wait to have gpu prices go down so I can transcode like crazy,
catalog doesn't load. it just spins.
How to add Jellyfin to Apple TV?
Jellyfin handles music well. Plex music sucks, unless you like hearing multiple instances of songs playing at the same time out of sync. Jellyfin isn't as good with movies and TV shows, very difficult to have a nice format visually.
I have a collection on Jellyfin (new install) that shows a check mark. None of the episodes in this series have been watched. I've checked every season, even tried manually removing the "Played" status. It just remains checked.
JellyFin is cool
I wished the UI had a more purple-ish tint🤣
like Plex has a golden-yellow tint
Also, can one use rufus in linux, if not then what should one use to create a persistence Live USB??
what about Ventoy ?
there is no proper guide on it
Would love to cover Ventoy for sure!
@@IBRACORP I hope you cover ALL that Ventoy can do & I mean ALL of it's features
There are literally no guides on it
(Like the persistence images etc.....)
can you install jellyfin without a GPU or integrated graphics? My server doesn't have either.
I think yes. In that case you can only watch what's supported by hardware. Just try it :)
Can't say what performance you'll get in that setup, by as Appoxo said, give it a try!
Please use a mono track for your voiceover. It's very annoying to have the voice jump from right to left all the time...
Does it have a Samsung smart tv app?
The most important thing to know about Lego is that the plural of Lego is "Lego Bricks". There are no such things as "Lego's" no matter how many Americans use that word.
Thanks!
my eyes just glaze over
Can someone please help me play ISO files with menus.
