    Thanks! I picked up a few tips here and shared it with my 26 year old Son who I turned on to traditional wet shaving a few years ago. He’s in the Army, so he’s a daily shaver on duty days and really likes the cost shaving of DE blades versus multi-blade cartridges. I gifted him over 200 DE blades about 2 years ago and he’s still ‘fixed for blades.’ 😉

    Hi Rich. Please welcome your friend to the addiction. I don’t understand why more people don’t bloom their soap? I don’t believe you’re getting everything out of it if you don’t. The lather is better, the scent of the soap has time to develop. Bloom water is the perfect pre shave and it always matches the scent of your soap unlike some stand alone pre shaves. I bloom with hot water but I wait for it to turn cold because I shave cold. Before my shower. That way I don’t have to wash/rinse my beard again. Down here in Florida we are into 90 degree days so cold shaving is very refreshing. I love the brush. Perfect for the blood knot. I have been hand lathering lately instead of using a bowl. Works just fine. I mix it up. I work tonight so I’m looking forward to a nice cold shave before my gig. Thanks Rich.

      Interesting comment, Scott. Do you bloom soft or creamy soaps ? how long do you bloom ?

    • @saxman7131

      PeterFr I have very few soaps but usually just the hard soaps. I put hot tap water in and let it sit till cold. Then use the cold bloom water. I get the benefit of the hot bloom and cold water.

      A few soaps, you're a wise man ! (I must resist the temptation of novelty). I'm a cold shaver too so i must try your bloom technique, thank's

    What a gorgeous brush ! I prefer bowl lathering only because i got some skin irritations when face lathering so i'm just painting.
    Stirling is top.

    Hmm. I'm a newb to wetshaving. Instead of dropping more water onto the brush, can't I just add some water into a separate bowl and transfer the loaded brush to the bowl and lather from there? Also, I love your videos and I love the face lathering with the hand after the initial pass. I'll do that until I get better. Shaving with a safety razor is definitely a he'll of a lot better than when I used a cartridge razor. Allot smoother as well.

    I started with a Semogue 610 boar, then bumped up to a Simpson Duke 3, now I'm headed to a synthetic...still trying to decide on this. My practical rationale for having several brushes is partly for the fun of collecting and partly to prolong the life of the brushes themselves...especially the Simpson.

    Shall i put my synthetic one under the water for a few second ? Or rinse that with hot or cold water? Which is the best case of synthetic brush? Before usage for how long shall i put it in to the water?

      @@shavingwithrich1846 Hi. I tried the face lather and I don't know what I am doing wrong. When I do it I just just a transparent lather. I am not getting a rich, thick white coating.

    Did your friend make it out alive with that PAA doubleopen comb

    • @jillsnoddon4463
      @jillsnoddon4463 6 лет назад +1

      IMHO, a double open comb razor isn't as aggressive as most people think. It leaves behind a trail of lather that is there still to lubricate.

    I just don't see any advantage to this "face lathering" vs using a bowl. I've tried it a couple of times but honestly its more trouble and for me simply doesn't work as well. Get a nice unvarnished wooden bowl and you'll be able to create very nice rich lather quickly. Smooth ceramic bowls or mugs are popular but actually don't work very well. Due to the smooth surface there is little friction to create a nice lather. That slightly rough surface that wood provides works significantly better.

    • @MichaelBlocksom
      @MichaelBlocksom 4 года назад

      It’s so much cheaper still than canned shave cream or gel. It’ll last so much longer even over loading a soap. And you don’t want to run out of lather mid shave.
