Are these better yhan regular Perma sharp

I have the gold plated Futur. If I never use it's just nice to look at.

The problem I had with Feathers is, they only last 2 shaves per blade for me. I shave my face and head as "one shave", so shaving my face only I might get 3-4-5 shaves from a blade. Wilkinson Sword was very not good for me. Very irritating. I refuse to use Gillette products anymore. Currently testing out Kai blades. One shave in, and it's surprised me how sharp yet smooth it is. Glides through hair but doesn't irritate my skin. I'm curious how many shaves I'll get out of a Kai blade.

Rich has got it right. To me Arco shaving soap is fantastic. Lathers beautifully, gives an excellent cushioning and a real nice slickness. Don't forget to use your best super sharp razor blade for incredible results. Were talking baby smooth comfort gents.

You have not mentioned how many times you use a blade. I have a thick growth and use a closed comb Muhle which I find to be fantastic. I only use a blade once.

I only shave with vintage Gillette razors. I won't purchase or use a modern razor.

I'm female, but shave my legs with DE razors instead of cartridges, I've been using an Edwin Jagger for years, but the piece attached to the head that screws into the handle broke off in the handle so I was/am on the hunt for a new razor. I just purchased another Edwin Jagger but then remembered I had my eyes on the Merkur Futur ages ago, but was afraid of it as I was now starting out with a DE shaver. Now that I'm more confident, I'm considering it. My only concern now though is how smooth the handle is. I'm thinking a heavy shaver with a smooth handle in wet hands would be hard to hold onto, especially since I'll be holding it head down for shaving legs, as opposed to head up as one would when shaving one's face. I figure the indent makes it easier, but for shaving legs, I figure I'd be holding it further down the handle. What are your thoughts?

can you compare this razor to the same one but matt. I got one the one you show and is bad grip on handle, is also because of water softener filter I have on the main water and makes it worst if I hand any soap on the hand. I am curious if the chrome slides easier on the skin because of its texture

I don’t like feather blades. They leave my skin dry and irritated. Brought a selection pack and basically every blade has been fine but feather not so much. I have now tried them in 2 razors and same results. For me Gillette London bridge are the best. No irritation cheap and last 5-6 shaves.

usually i like the gilette gel. i think you have to use a lot more for better results!

First. You're back!

A Shavette can shave better or worse slower or faster. I think it depends on your skill for one and the blade for another. I've got the artist club and the SE I like the Artist Club blades better. Rounded on the ends to avoid some nicks. Sharper it seems also. Less tug.

This may be an aggressive razor for the beard because it cuts so well and you get a good feed back while shaving, but it is not all aggressive against the skin. I use it between level 3 and level 4.5 for aggressiveness. It is difficult to cut yourself with this shaver because the so called lower jaw edge extends beyond the blade edge much more than other razors. What exposes the blade edge to the skin for cutting is the angle that you make with the skin as in all razors but more so here. Then it has covers on the two sides that hides the non cutting edges of the blade so you do not accidentally cut yourself. I shave against the grain all, yes all the time and i have no problem with it being so called aggressive. It is a fine piece of engineering and a lot of thought process has gone in to it by the original manufacturer. I own the clone of Futur and I am impressed. I have yet to cut myself with it. I own at least ten different razors and I must have had a little cut or a nick with all of them at sometime when I lost attention while shaving. Not with this one.

Feather blades are so very sharp that they quickly get micro chips on their cutting edge after just two shaves. DE blades are so inexpensive compared to cartridge blades that I simply discard and replace a Feather blade after two or perhaps three shaves. I am a Feather fan although I use other brands as well that last for up to six shaves or so for me.

Good video, but wow... a lathering video that takes 14+ minutes before brush touches soap?

Just got a Rockwell 6C. It can go so mild that for my bi-daily shaves (yes - twice a day, with the second one usually in my car), I just use water!!! 🤣 Setting 2 seems to be the one. (Settting 1 is just too mild, and IMHO, a waste of a grade)

I got a mix of 5 blades when I bought my Merkur razor. I found Astra blades to be excellent when starting out, you can use them like a cartridge blade and pretty hard to cut yourself with them. When I got more comfortable with the razor I went to feather blades and that's all I use now. Have to be careful with them though, respect the sharpness. Prior to going to DE razor I always used Gillette sensor razors so I tried the 7 O'clock blades and was fairly happy with them also. I find I get about 5 to 7 good shaves with the feather blades and 3 or 4 with the others before they start losing their edge. Cheers.
