Decided to try my best to get my hands on it and I did!
Let's take a look at this board and see what's all the hype is about.

Outstanding video. I'm the author of the Tom's Hardware article in question, and I'd like to briefly explain why I compared the Orange Pi to the Snapdragon and M4. I was trying to keep the comparisons to chipsets I knew most of our readers would recognize even if they just had a casual interest in SBC and microcontrollers.
Otherwise, thanks so much for testing this. Good to see how it performs (or fails to perform), and I hope you can find a way to dig even deeper and get more working on it.
Case is really well designed- I don't think I've seen any SBC cases with a plastic panel to leave room for WiFi/BLE antennas.
No lscpu, lshw, lspci ? Which (Arm) cores are being used? Lots of questions
I've been waiting for a video on this
You tested the CPU with 4 threads, maybe it has multi-threading which would explain the lack of performance in the test.
No, I tried with a higher number, same result
Love your videos on these SBC's. This one looks like a disaster
Raspberry Pi all day. pound for pound
Seems like a nice low power device, but would need to reverse engineer and create a real image for it.
Is the source code for the OS available?
It doesnt have gpu acceleration whatsoever, that's what llvm means, soft rendering.
i have just bought via aliexpress. But the seller had to import it from a wholesaler. Orangepi store doesn't sell it outside China. I don't know what they are hiding behind. The CPU from what I googled is Quad-Core Custom Taishan V110 ARM Core A76 derivate 2.6GHZ????. I don't think it achieves this, it's probably clocked lower. Not information on the google about Hi 1910. Language settings can be switch to english. OpenEuler based on centos. Provided Firefox.
can you run geekbench6 on it?
China has US style plugs. Mystery solved
Oh, I did not know that. Thanks for sharing
I wonder if you can install a regular Orange PI image since is their board to see if that can run and than make a test.
Still won't solve the GPU and other driver issues
@@TechnicallyUnsure Hm ya you are right the GPU and driver is especialy writen for this CPU/GPU board.
Can you try the OpenHarmony image, also have you tried to install ollama to run some LLMs locally ?
Which image think would work on this board?
Nice Where did you purchase the SBC from?
It's available on aliexpress for about $240.
Yes, they recently listed it on AliExpress but I didn't buy from there, when I ordered it, it wasn't listed on AliExpress. Anyway, if you end up buying it, make sure to contact the seller for the OS images and development kit as currently its on Baidu Cloud and it's pain in the neck to download from it, unless of course if you have a Baidu account or willing to install their desktop app.
Can you please run a lscpu and show output?
lscpu + lspci output: pastebin.com/D0f1ZmMQ
I have Orange Pi 5 for a year. It works fine, no complaining.
Yes, orange pi is fine, this is new a board called Kunpeng Pro, with Kunpeng CPU
@@TechnicallyUnsure It looks like it has no advantages .
I wonder how much of the IP in that CPU is just straight up stolen from arm and everyone else?
Um, Huawei have ARM license to make these Kunpeng ARM CPU 🤡
