Fun Fact, the Vlad chassis was originally known as the Yi Sun-Shin, named after the famous admiral of the same name who essentially saved the Kingdom of Korea during the Imjin War (the Japanese invasion of Korea in the 1590s). Still, since no one knows about Yi Sun-Shin, it was renamed to the Vlad. Which sucks, because Admiral Yi is probably one of the very few in history who could give Horatio Nelson a run for his money.
@@Zaktact Have you ever tried homebrewing your own megacorp? Or never felt the need I'm just curious if doing such a thing with this system would be difficult
@@spac3dout320 A lot of homebrew content exists for the game, including full on megacorps with mechs, lore and everything else. So while it is a lot of work to do, integrating it into the system and setting once you have it finished, is not too difficult.
So I've actually run this game and one of my players ran a Blackbeard. Calling this mech scary is an understatement and a half! Damn thing tore through just about every combat encounter I set up. It grappled my final boss of the ENTIRE encounter. This boss was two sizes larger than it was! It just wouldn't let go! All the same it was super fun, great times and great stories all around.
There is a Raleigh build my friend showed me he calls Johnny Seven Guns "on account of him having seven guns." Apparently you can just have 7 handcannons on that thing and it's not only viable, but pretty effective.
I love how all the other mechs from this faction are designed about being no frills and practical - cowboy aesthetics aside - and then there's just The Vlad. For people who want to impale. There's a Freudian joke in there somewhere. The machine for medieval Romanian warlord cosplayers. At least we have Trucker Mech. My beloved.
my favorite Defender/Controller build in Lancer is the modest Vladbeard, and it's literally as simple as it sounds: Vlad with Blackbeard upgrades. You have 3 Armor at Size 1, you're *always* the bigger robot when you grapple, and any source of immobilize (Grapple, Nail Gun, etc) shreds your victim (None of their defensive properties work anymore), and if they're stupid enough to try to fight back while you're grappling them, they take an unavoidable AP kinetic damage. With Core Power, that damage becomes 3 AP Kinetic *and* you take half-damage.
I sure do love my interstellar shipping company that DEFINITELY doesn’t have a side thing with under the table piracy going on. (Edit) also can’t wait for the episode on Albatross, one of my most favorite factions in lancer
7:12 Technically, all anti-mech weapons are anti-materiel (as opposed to anti-personnel, look up "anti-materiel rifle", for example), meaning "to be used against material resources", like mechs, vehicles, ammo depots, unexploded ordnance, reinforced bunker doors, etc. Which begs the question, is the non-upgraded chaingun for Drake meant to be used against people in hardsuits and other kinds of personal combat protection, not against mechs?
I would not be surprised. Raleigh, Blackbeard, and Vlad have fighting other chassis covered, so efficiently mowing down fodder swarming the spaceports or other secured perimeters helps diversify the portfolio, with the upgraded version able to handle more hard targets. Tortuga can also defend against infantry in close, but it's more about slowly rooting them out while advancing.
Thank you for making this Lancer content ❤ You managed to hook me into it and buy the Core Rule book, now reading through the GM section and the way you bring your vibe to the information is great Cant wait for the next video 😁
Can attest, the Raleigh is beautiful. Had a blast with mine. Also gave it just a *touch* of Pegasus for some extra paracausality weirdness. Just a fun rootin tootin sentient yet concerningly quiet cowboy mech with 4 giant revolvers. Named it Texas Red.

If not for the intended combat zones, I'd say add some thermal discharge around the head of the Blackbeard to mimic the namesake putting lit cannon fuses in his beard. Besides, it could really ramp up the CQC brutality for those who like their fighting primal. Drake is a good defense design, and all the flash it needs comes from the muzzleS. I love Clifford, the big mech dog. And just like Boston's, it's dynamic support. A Leeroy Jenkins LARP mech is a bit unexpected, but why just support the people who quest for pirate blood when you can supply them too? "It has a shotgun called the deck sweeper." Color me interested. Especially if there are dynamic insertion options for size 2's. And wouldn't it just be great for theming and tactics to have a Blackbeard team hiding behind a Tortuga when the latter needs to pull back or hold position, but the offensive needs to be pressed forward? I know the Vlad is basically a meme at this point but it does serve a practical purpose. If your ship is boarded by pirates, you probably want to take a couple in for "motivated" questioning. Well, the Vlad can immobilize a mech while minimizing the pilot's exposure to shrapnel and bullets. And once the Vlad rips open the disabled mech's hatch, the first thing the pirate inside sees is this spiked horror staring down at them with one hateful eye. I'd bet my big toe that pirate will find the motivation to cooperate pretty damn quick!
