I whait long time for a report about VW Country history.I am also the proud owner of an exakt same car and same colour. It is a great car, and I will never sale this car. Thanks for your report.
I’ve always been fascinated with this sub-frame. I’ve always wondered why this style conversion wasn’t utilized by others. I saw someone online put a XJ Cherokee unibody on a frame, not as cool as this.
I do miss these types of cars from the 80s and 90s. They made my childhood awesome to remember and 1 even made the beginning of my driving skills a lot more fun.
Having personally driven a few of these I can say its a very interesting car to drive, especially after you have daily driven the regular golf mk2, it just feels so special. I used to own a limited model (500 made) Chrome Edition of this, it had beige heated sport leather seats, electric full fabric sliding roof, roof rails! chrome sidesteps, chromed 15" steel wheels with much wider offset and all the rest of Country specific tube items in chrome. That all came from factory.
Awesome video! Cool thing is that they were more common in Scandinavian countries and people recognise the car, shit part is that they were everyday off-roader you took to your cottage so all the cars for sale are high mileage, besten and rusty
When I was a kid (20 or more years ago) I remember to see a mk2 country parked on the same area for many times. Got to love the MABOR (Maria Borges) portuguese brand tyres. I run the same MABOR Sport-Jet 2 on my MK3 GT TDI.
Very cool! I would love a set of the tires for my own Country! They're not distributed in the USA though, so I'll have to wait until I'm in Europe again.. :-)
Oh man, what an awesome piece of 90’s engineering! You are a lucky man to have one in your collection.. thanks for sharing! P.S. if you ever have a chance to put it on the lift and do a few shots of the subframe and suspension, I would love to see that!
I didn't know about the whole frame underneath raising the car up, wow. That thing is so damn cool! Montana green was a great color for the Golfs , and there is nothing I repeat nothing, that compare to the feel of driving a Mk2. The 2Dr Mk2 Jetta that I owned years back had that Digifant 8V engine which I gave it hell and it never broke. The GLI 16V that I have now I will never get rid of it.
I remember reading the article in "Auto Motor und Sport" magazine about the Syncro circa 1989 in the waiting room at the doctors office... Wanted one ever since. BADASS!! I have a 2019 Green Golf Alltrack today... go figure.
I grew up in a VW family my brother always had and still has old bugs and bus' but never had a VW of my own until recently I was in the market for a new car and I found a 2018 VW Jetta 2.5se and I am in love... Wish it was a wagon but still a great looking car and super fun to drive and so I found this channel and genuinely enjoy your content
I was looking to buy a 1991 Nissan Bluebird but the seller backstabbed me and sold it to someone else. Then i came upon the Vw Country and fell in love with it immediately.
Jaime, thanks for bringing the good vibes. And I love, “wash your hands, wash your cars.” Also love the TDF t-shirt 👍🏼. You should do another Rally Wagen series chasing the Le Tour. I have an Alltrack, so I loved the shout out! You’re the man.

@@JamieOrr i made my comment before watching the whole thing...they really are, and were also built by steyer-puch, and the mark 1 rabbit/golf shared the same designer (as im sure you know). It's been years since I've seen one of these on the road. I've always loved them! And they are way cooler than the old Panda 4x4. I'm currently looking for a Honda HR-V with AWD and aircon in good condition (I think that's the one you meant)
Love these cars, great video, I have a mk3 VR6 syncro cabby you would like. My question is what road bikes do you like, Colnago is my personal choice, Cheers!
Fedima, nice company. Probably thinking of going there for our panda 141, for the panda raid to get some off-road tyres. Because they are r13 its very hard to find off-road tyres so Fedima and nortenha make these tyres.
Time to commit the cardinal sin… reminds me of what Opel did with the Kadett D. Fitted lifted suspension, underbody suspension, offroad tyres and a plate LSD (still FWD)

I agree! They really did put some legit hardware into these, and it would be cool to see it on other things for sure!
Coolest (not low) golf ever! My buddy has a MkI Golf on a bus frame aka “the jacked rabbit” 😁
The best part is that this sub-frame weighs approximately 35kg/77lb. ibb.co/yXYkRtL

I do miss these types of cars from the 80s and 90s. They made my childhood awesome to remember and 1 even made the beginning of my driving skills a lot more fun.
This is one of my FAVORITE VW's ever produced. If I could do a conversion on my Cabriolet to AWD with a lift I would in a heartbeat.

Vw makes some fun cars. I drive an 08 gti and that things a blast. Old beetles and busses are popular here too

Lovely example of a fun car! If I was going to buy another VW to add to my T3 Syncro, it would be the Country! Thumbs up!
Thanks! 👍
Spotted you on I-95 in SC last week. Absolute 🔥🔥🔥🔥.

It's really interesting to see this from an American point of view. For us here in Europe (me the Netherlands) this stuff is pretty normal.

the 'fog lights' at the grille height would in their Original configuration be ' driving lights' i.e. additional high beam headlights
Funky to see yours when I have a standard mk2 in exactly the same colour
