I´m using a BluGuitar amp1 since 2015 now. So it´s a "Silver Edition" or "1st Edition" of course, but I´m always impressed about the amazing sounds that Thomas Blug puts in this amp. For my ears the TC pedal has a very good sound, but the amp 1 comes much closer to the warm and broad Marshall-sound. I prefer the "vintage" feel of the amp1 over the more "modern" polished pedal sound. Thanks John for the comparison - now I know I can save the money to try out the TC pedal! Greetings from Germany! 👋😎🎸
Gotta Agree with @justice100forwin2 and I didn't hear much of a difference and for the money, the JIMs is the obvious value choice. thanks for the Vid John... great to see all your fingers flying on the guitar neck as per usual.
Easily heard differences between the two, but, yeah, both sound really good. The Blug was brighter on the first couple samples, but when more and more drive was added, the similarities began.
Interesting video and for me both have their merits. The Blu seemed more present but the Jims45 had a really great authentic tone too. I still have my TC Electronics Sand Amp GT2 from 20 plus years ago. It's old and tired now and needs a good overhaul, but as an early modeller it was a great piece of kit. I'm now really tempted to get the Jims for a monthly blues gig I do. Just that and my Fender Mustang Amp would cover all the bases I need with minimum faff factor.
The Amp 1 dry noticeably different sound which I prefer. In the mix with effects the gap closes. As for Beano sound the speakers make up part of that tone so twin 12” celestion greenbacks I think were used in the original so that would be your missing piece of the puzzle.
Not sure if TC ship it this way these days, but they updated the cab sim afterwards with a firmware update. I've got the AC30 clone and the JCM800 clone and on both, the update seemed to bring the neutral point on the controls to being a bit thicker and fuller as the originals lean towards a brighter tone. They are great modellers for the money, fantastic for those that want to dabble into the world of modelling but don't need hundreds of amps at their disposal.
Hi John, they do sound a little different but to pick a favourite is something I wouldn't like to do. One I could possibly afford (when the new guitar is paid for) and one I couldn't justify just to make vids that not too many click on, so you can guess which one I'd go for.
Outside of a mix at 4:00 I think the BluGuitar has a wider range of rich harmonic distortion, the Jims at 4:19 sounds a bit more limited, a bit of a cocked wah sound maybe, if that makes sense, but still fantastic for the money. In a mix it's less noticeable.
Thank you for doing this comparison. As the proud new owner of the JIMS 45 pedal, it was good to see how you dialed in your tone and the way you ran it through. Any suggestions if you go straight to an amp? TIA.
To my ears the Bluamp sounded a lot fuller or should I say it had more depth compared to the JIMS45 which sounded somewhat lacking in those areas, at first I thought it was set to a lower volume but it wasnt and its hard to explain without using words like soundstage, depth width etc which Ive never really understood till maybe today.
JIMS45 didn't do anything for me. Comparison proves again I'm still a big fan of your versatile BluG Amp1 Mercury. Even prefer it over my little Quilter Superblock UK. Loved the blues on the Les Paul!
Then you and I quite obviously hear a fuzz pedal in VERY different ways. Fuzz is my Kryptonite. I can't express how much I hate the fizzy and non-dynamic way fuzz sounds. It's like listening to grandad playing a comb & paper kazoo. This pedal is dynamic, responsive and touch sensitive in a way that fuzz pedals seem to take a pride in not managing to achieve.
Awesome. Would love to hear you review some of the others too.
I declare an interest as an Amp1 user over many years. It’s head and shoulders above but that TC Pedal is impressive.
Great pedal the TC , I fancy the Deluxe Reverb one
me too 🙂
Same here.
For the money the JIM's 45 sounds amazing and is certainly a pedal on my to buy list!
Much preferred the BluGuitar on each comparison. Seemed much tighter and defined somehow.

Thanks for sharing John
I really like the TC Jims45

I prefer the Blue amp 1, that said the TC jms is a different sound and that’s good!👍
I preferred the JIMS45 clean and the BlueGuitar dirty
Much anticipated.....................

I've never been let down by any TC pedals. This comparison was different flavours of Marshall, but both very good i.m.o.. Cheers.

It doesn't sound digital to me though, more like a different EQ profile

Never tried it into an amp. Watch this space though 👍

Didn’t sound the least bit”digital” to me. The guitar turned down belonged to the pedal, for me. The green channel on the pedal is outstanding.
The Blu Guitar Amp has a much nicer vintage drive tone. The TC sounds much more modern, and a bit too 'clinical' to me.
TC JIMS sounds more like a fuzz pedal to me.

@@JRobsonGuitar Will rewatch the video through my monitors and headphones - maybe the Mac speakers coloured it somewhat, but I doubt it
the mercury vintage channel is based on a 68ish blackflag, not a jtm45 the origional amp1 was,
