    Used the paddle shifters in sport mode for the first time today, I was going uphill on Sm4 so I wondered what would happen if i went to a lower gear. So I went to Sm1 and I just started hearing the loudest revving with no idea what was going on, so I just switched back to normal drive and everything went back to normal. 😅 Hopefully I didn’t break anything since I completely forgot that you use a lower gear to go downhill, not uphill....

    • @Toymonkeyjr

      if you didn't go past redline then it's probably just because in normal driving conditions even while flooring it the transmission always shifts around 2-1.5k before redline changing the gearing with the paddleshifters probably jsut put it up all the way to redline and you're noot used to that sound, also cvts sound really loud and weird when they are geared in sportmode

Also quite boring to drive! I'm a mechanic if that's anything to you.

    just bought a car with this system in it. I'm new to it but so far i enjoy using the gear shifter up and down to up/downshift instead of the paddles, the paddles are stuck in that same position on the wheel so you have to keep both hands there no matter what.

      Dude you just downshifted the car, of course it'll rev higher. The point of paddleshifts in automatic cars to make overtakes easier and safer in traffic. I dont know which model/year you use but CVT doesnt have any gear, it just simulates it unless you switch to ''S'' mode in transmission and it is not a deal. If the rpm didnt reach rev limiter and hit it for some seconds, it might cause a problem but probably everything is just fine.

      M1 = Manual 1.
      In manual shift mode, the M indicator and gear number appear in the shift indicator. If the vehicle speed increases and the engine speed approaches the tachometer’s red zone, the transmission automatically shifts up. As the vehicle speed slows down, the transmission automatically shifts down accordingly. When the vehicle comes to a
      stop, it automatically shifts down into 1st gear.
      You can cancel manual shift mode by switching to any other mode.

      The normal driving mode is just when you put the car into drive, if the car is in drive and you use the paddles after about 5 seconds it switches off the paddle mode and goes back into normal drive.

      If you are in D mode and hit a paddle, you should just be able to hold the throttle at a point where you are not accelerating or decelerating and it will turn off manual mode fairly quickly.

  • @heykid542

    • @NightHawkMotors

      When to shift is completely up to your discretion, the higher the RPM the more power the less efficient. Keep rpms between 1300-2500 for cruising and higher for accelerating.

  • @liam.yurr357
    @liam.yurr357 4 года назад

    Ok here's my thing with this if it's a cvt why do you need paddle shifters. CVTs don't have gears it's a metal belt with some cones that change positions to give you different torque ratios. Basically you car doesn't have gears in the transmission so you're just simulating gear and getting worse gas mileage

    • @NightHawkMotors
      @NightHawkMotors  4 года назад +3

      Depends, It does make it less boring to drive. But if you’re going to merge onto the highway it does allow you to be higher in the power band for quicker acceleration. If you just floor the car it takes a bit of time to build the rpms. If maximum gas mileage is your goal, this car would not be for that.

      @@liam.yurr357 not odd. works like any other transmission in manual mode in that it allows you to choose and hold a designated gear ratio at any one of 6 points in the system. there are simulated gear ratios at fixed points along the conical shafts where the belts remain positioned until you manually shift away. (or let the computer program do its thing for you in auto mode) You basically override the computer in manual mode. No different than tiptronic or stick shift etc etc

      for fun (power shift) - 35, 50, 65, 85, 105 ....
