For anyone driving in sport with paddles, please don't put it in 6th at 30 mph. You just make your car slower. If you want it to accelerate as quick as possible and have the most torque, you have to keep the rpms in the "power band". For these cars it has not been clear from what I have been looking for, but it should be around 4,000-6,000 rpms. Through shifting you want to keep your rpms in that range as much as you can. From this video I learned that the downshifting is done for you when you stop which is what I wanted to know. I also like that there is no way you can redline the car because I am to scared of putting too much of a strain on the engine and transmission .
Paddle shifters excellent for engine braking which is safe way to slow down on icy roads! Don’t brake on ice, use the down paddle shifter to ‘engine brake’ and slow down without sliding.
I always drive in S mode in my 2012 3.5 tl and I use the paddle shifter all the times, you can always be in the right gear and also engine brake wich save your brakes a lot.In d mode,it always look to be in the most economic gear wich gets frustrating a lot.
I don't have any ideas on how to use the paddle shifters. They said it will help a lot when you arr towibg a travel trailer on down a steep hill? Hopefully you can share how to do it. Thanks! 😀
You shift wayyyyyy to early lmao and also side note you can put it in first and floor it, if you redline it, it will auto upshift even in sport. the car wont let you hurt its self.
My new Camry has paddle shifters. I wanted a 5 speed manual, was told it wasn't available. You explain how this works well. I prefer to brake my speed by downshifting, sneaking up on lights, being in the right gear for the getaway. I will test it next time I go out. Thanks again for your explanation!
Basically, it gives you the idea that you're changing gears but what it really does is adjust the torque/Rpms to give you a little more control. I've only used it for quicker overtaking.
For good acceleration the CVT and computer is just not good at making it fun to drive. Whenever I give the car some gas the rpms just fly right past the power band or stay at too low of rpms for better fuel economy. The paddles allow you to control the rpms to stay in the power band.

But in sport mode while using padle shifters you see a "M" appears on the screen which means now you are in a manual mode!

+Steven Herrera Any mod is possible but its up to you: who does the mod, what parts you use etc. I believe it can be done but then again sourcing the parts and making sure they work properly will be difficult.
Kevin Cu No you just tap the right side paddle to set it into 1st from a dead stop. If the car is already moving and you switch to sport mode the moment you use either side's paddle it will either downshift or upshift from the "gear" it should be in according to the computer at that mph.

+Alex Gomez Great question Alex, It all depends on your desired speed. If you are looking at a higher speed you will want to shift at a high rpm. But if you are looking at a lower speed you will want to shift at a low rpm. Let me know if that helped.
You look at your rpms...as soon as the car starts making that sound like it wants to go faster but it cant, thats when u shift up especially out of 1st to 2nd. Shifting up is the easy part. its the downshifting that usually confuses people. Thats why I just stick to automatics. I deal with too much traffic and too many cops where I live to effectively have great driving experience
I have 2014 accord coupe v6 6 speeds automatic. Not CVT. and when I put it in sport mode and use paddle shifters it will not let me drive on first gear even if I'm going slow it always pick up the 2nd gear then wait for me to up shift. Unless I'm at a full stop I can down shift to first but once i lift my foot from the breaks and the car start to roll with no throttle it will change to second then I have to upshift
I self taught my self how to use it :) I use to drive a stick shift car but pad was diffrent so I played around with it. c: quicky learned thanks alot man!
As your accord is a CVT transmission, it really doesnt shift any gears. The paddle shifters really just adjust your rpms. Say you shift up and u gas it the throttle and rpm gauge just shows it at 7k and when you "upshift" it just lets the engine rev at different "rpms". Kinda pointless for them to put it on a cvt transmission car my 2016 corolla s has it too lol

I’m only getting 17-19 mpg and it’s very frustrating 😔 can someone please explain why? I drive in a city that’s filled with stop and go traffic and sometimes 5 minute stops while in traffic before you can creep to stop again. What can I do to improve this? Also does the engine oil viscosity have a lot to do with achieving the advertised mpg? This is a 2016 Honda Accord sport
Great video. Knowing how to drive stick, I’m still trying to wrap my head around these paddle shifters. Dumb question: should I take my foot off the gas (just like a stick shift) when I’m shifting?
Interestingly, on my Toyota Corolla, the owners manual says specifically that the paddle shifters are for engine braking. It gives no mention about how to use them for normal, everyday, non-engine-braking driving.
Wait, Honda Accords have paddle shifters now? Don't get me wrong, I don't mind the cars, but that kind of demeans why the more high performance ones that are fitted with paddle shifters, do have them, wouldn't it?
HNK2015 1st gear has more torque but low top speed. 5th gear has dramatically less torque but higher top speed. TL;DR, 1st gear accelerates dramatically faster than 5th gear.
well unfortunately many people underestimate the accord V6 and the Camry Aurion Zr6 or the supercharged TRD lel and you can have heaps of fun with it as long as you know how to have fun.
I beg to differ. In manual mode my Honda (with CVT and 7 selectable ratios) upshifts automatically when the engine reaches red-line. Its programmed to do that so you're never going to hit the rev limiter. If you never reach red-line (which you didn't in this vid), then yes it will hold the ratio and not upshift
But yours is different. The CVT with paddle shift only emulates 7 ratios. The Accord has 6-speed torque converter auto. Its behaviour is different. With your CVT, there is no need to select ratios since you just need to floor it to always have maximum power (think as if it has 20+ gears).
I would be terrible with the paddle shifters. I drive a 17 SS Camaro with 6 spd man. I like a stick simply because I just never taken the time to learn how the drive an automatic.

No
You don’t have to unless you want to downshift to engine break
how do you downshift manually? If you just hit the down button it lurk forward.
is it possible to downshift to utilize the engine braking while in drive mode?
Yes you are able to do that.
Interestingly, on my Toyota Corolla, the owners manual says specifically that the paddle shifters are for engine braking. It gives no mention about how to use them for normal, everyday, non-engine-braking driving.
On my scion tc it won't shift down automatically. I still have to shift it to 1st if I'm making a stop.
How can you use paddle shifting on snowy, icy roads?
Wait, Honda Accords have paddle shifters now? Don't get me wrong, I don't mind the cars, but that kind of demeans why the more high performance ones that are fitted with paddle shifters, do have them, wouldn't it?
this guy in 4th doing 25
😂
Fernando Vargas 😂😂😂😂
You get pretty mpg lol.
Does this 2016 Honda Accord have CVT engine and transmission?
thanks for this channel! new sub and 2012 Honda Accord V6 Coupe owner here :-)

Meanwhile, what car do you drive? Lol
is it bad for you car to use automanual shifting? the - and +?
are we can use sport mode without use paddle shift??
You do not require the paddle shifters.
can you make a video for me to drive honda accord by sport mode without using paddle shift friend
SAZZAD HOSSAIN SHOURAV Oh all you have to do is put it in D or drive and drive normal.
thanks your vids help me out alot ! I got a used accord 2014 sport and really loving the car !(:
What is the benefit for using paddle shifters ?
rsp 123 if you want to overtaking someone in front of you but you feel like less power. Use the paddle shift + to get more power.
Lili Ana you mean downshift to higher rpm to get more power
Nicely explained
Can I use S sport mode and not using the paddle shifters.?
yes
Nice batman wheel cover!
But what makes the car go faster. The first gear or the 5th gear
Lower gear and higher rpms are the biggest factors in gaining quick speed and torque in a car. Hope this helps you :)
HNK2015 1st gear has more torque but low top speed. 5th gear has dramatically less torque but higher top speed. TL;DR, 1st gear accelerates dramatically faster than 5th gear.
As a rule of thumb, the first 3 gears are for acceleration and the last remaining amount is usually for speed
These type of cars like the Accord, Camry,Corolla shouldn't have paddle shifters, its point less.
Gc_03 like ur education "point less"
Lg lol
Fuck u hater just because u have a gtr
I think if you have a CVT it’s pointless but If a regular transmission car has them it’s ok
well unfortunately many people underestimate the accord V6 and the Camry Aurion Zr6 or the supercharged TRD lel and you can have heaps of fun with it as long as you know how to have fun.
Will it hit the rev limiter or shift up?
In manual mode it will not shift up automatically
I just got a 2014 accord sport. What's eco button mean .....
saves fuel
Can we switch between D with S mode without stopping the car? And vice versa.
Yes you can. You do not have to stop your car. Everything is very fluid. You have to try hard to mess up the automatic transmission. No worries.
+KleanTrix regardless of how fast you're going?
o0oGalvan Yup. I mean if you are going 100 MPH I would have both hands on the wheel for safety reasons you know.
Yeah i get you. Do you know if you can disengage / engage the econ button whenever as well?
o0oGalvan Yes you are able to engage and disengage that while driving as well.
Can i use sport mode without using the paddle shifter??
Yes
I would be terrible with the paddle shifters. I drive a 17 SS Camaro with 6 spd man. I like a stick simply because I just never taken the time to learn how the drive an automatic.
