    • @ThatChimpBoy
      @ThatChimpBoy 3 месяца назад

      @@goodoldgrim that’s not… I was saying that most of the times that “communism fell” it was through direct intervention from foreign countries. The book, “Socialism Betrayed: Behind The Collapse of The Soviet Union” by Roger Keeran & Thomas Kenney, is a well researched deep dive into the reasons behind the collapse of the Union. I would strongly recommend giving the book a read, but essentially the idea is that the fall of the Soviet Union wasn’t a natural progression, it was directly influenced by Soviet leadership and their cooperation with Western powers to vertically and un-democratically dissolve the Soviet Union. Beyond that Gorbachev sloppily implemented policies to liberalize their markets and as a result it sent their economy into a death spiral.
      Beyond the USSR, many other socialist countries are still around. China is becoming an economic rival to the US, Vietnam is still kicking after the war, North Korea exists, and Cuba even through the US’ blockade (which is the primary reason for it’s economic situation) is still around.
      Plenty of Socialist/Communist societies and governments exist and while many are struggling, much of this is because of trade restrictions and physical wars. To be completely honest there hasn’t been a single socialist government that hasn’t had foreign governments influence, attack, restrict, or generally fuck with their economies and politics.

    • @ThatChimpBoy

      I would strongly suggest reading: “socialism betrayed: behind the collapse of the Soviet Union” by roger Keeran & Thomas Kenny. The book explains how the USSR fell not through a natural progression but through foreign influence and god-awful leadership.
      Beyond just the USSR, there are plenty of socialist/communist countries that are still around today. China is becoming an economic rival to the US, Vietnam is still around after the war, North Korea exists, and Cuba even through the US’ blockade, which has caused most of their economic issues, is still around.
      To be honest there hasn’t been a Socialist Country that didn’t face foreign government influence, attacks, or restrictions. That makes it hard to know if Communism could truly succeed, but to say that there is definitive and good proof that communism or socialism can’t succeed ever would be to blatantly ignore the fact that:
      1.) During the Vietnam war a significant amount of civilians were killed by the US and the spraying of agent orange over nearly 25% of southern Vietnam has had greatly negative affects on the country.
      2.) The US bombed North Korea to the point that ~20% of their population was wiped out and 85% of buildings were destroyed
      3.) The US blockade of Cuba has denied access to medical and food supplies to the civilians, all while making it so any country that trades with Cuba faces restrictions with trade in the US, which has a much larger market and far greater influence. That’s not even to mention the countless assassination attempts on Castro, the bay of pigs, and the myriad different operations the CIA attempted in Cuba.
      These countries don’t develop in a vacuum and most of them have been the victim of foreign interference so how can you say they failed entirely of their own volition.

      @@ThatChimpBoy so communism can't succeed in the real world, only in books - glad we agree.
      USSR falling through god-awful leadership doesn't change anything. Communists are consistently god-awful leaders is what we've seen from history. I'm not saying it can't work in theory. Just that we're no closer to a practical version than we were in the 19th century.

      @rfvtgbzhn 3 месяца назад +2

      @@kenon6968the famines were because of the civil war and because the level of agricultural production was very low in the tsarist state, which you can't make up in a few years. The Bolsheviks ordered the acquisition of wheat because it was necessary to feed the troops and workers in essential sectors, you can't really blame Lenin or the Politburo for that, it was absolutely necessary to win the civil war, but it led to famine because it coincided with a combination of scorched earth by retreating white troops, generally inefficient agriculture, bad weather and the general difficulty to distribute stuff during a civil war.

    • @rfvtgbzhn
      @rfvtgbzhn 3 месяца назад

      @@kenon6968also the whites probably executed more than the reds during the civil war, but you can't really fight a large-scale civil war without execution and of course there is not always time for a proper trial in this special situation.
