Jazz fan here, I remember watching Mitchell's first interview with the local media and thinking this kid was special. My favorite part about him is how good of a person he is. The fact that he is an All-Star on top of that is just a nice bonus
I really like the Jazz. They run a tight ship. Seem to be one of the only teams that understand getting quality role players. And love those sunrise uniforms.
@@kevinschoenfelt6587 thanks! The motto is that the strength of our team is our team and we value or role players. The uniforms are also based on the Red Rock in Arches National Park in Utah 😁
Jay Calloway people casually forget that even when Kawhi won the finals MVP with the Spurs he wasn't a superstar then. Since about 2015 he's been making moves
I have seen a lot of these old draft revision videos where they will say “why did they pick Fultz,he’s trash “ and I’m like he was a guaranteed top 3 pick
I dont know why people ever liked Fultz... Everyone expected him to go first except for Danny but I remember thinking he was incredibly overated. He had a losing record in college... A consensus number 1 with a losing college record? Those guys are supposed to be generational and win games by themselves.
Markelle and Lonzo both went from Championship contenders to simply playoff contenders and got way better. Their new teams actually gave them time to develop instead of pushing them in too quickly.
Still not live up yo the expectations, they áre both role players while Mitchell is an Allstar, i'm still happy that markelle could find a team and produce after all the shit he went
I mean if those 2 players actually delivered on their hype based on their supposed talent, none of their old teams would value them as throw away trade considerations. The reason why Tatum is still with the Celtics is because they knew what he had with his scoring/shooting and solid ability to attack the rim. But the C's also wanted to try help improve him as a defensive player with his his 6'11" wingspan. So this year he's vital to the Cs ability to jump passing lanes to ballhawk for steals while still providing offense. Essentially Tatum kept getting better as he gets to his peak while Fultz and Ball are probably never going to hit the peak that people overhyped them for.
v Compluhcated my favorite series was 2010 NBA finals. Kobe is my favorite player (RIP 💜💛), lakers favorite team. Meaningful series, revenge series. Went 7 games. Game 7 was sloppy and both teams had to puzzle piece their offense together just to finish with an 83-79 final score. So the storyline, plus the actual on-court product made middle school me really invested. Other than that, 2009 lakers nuggets, 2009 bulls vs Celtics, 2010 lakers-suns, 2017 wizards Celtics are all really good series.
I remember that draft and every single person that talked about d Mitch knew he was an absolute steal, he had the talent and career in collage to go around the 6 or 7 pick
I could agree. But very few thought he was absolutely ready for the pro game based on what they saw out of him from Louisville years. Hell look at his game log in the 17/18 season and you can see HOW he evolved. He didn't take off as a scorer until about a month and a half after where he showed he can put up 20+ ppg. But the key growth was that he was attacking the hoop and getting to the line more around March 2018 while maintaining his scoring as the Jazz were getting ready for the playoffs.
Dope I love these retrospective vids and I’m fully convinced that regular fairly knowledgeable NBA fans can do the scouting and General managing a whole lot more efficient. I would love to see these teams that do the picking of players.
I know people like to keep saying that Mitchell was “drafted by Denver”, but the Jazz traded up just to get Mitchell after they worked him out (Denver didn’t and wouldn’t have drafted him had they kept the 13th pick ) and told Denver to draft him as part of their trade deal.
Collins is a very good defender, I think you're underrating him. This year especially, he was the pillar of their defense and was starting at the 4 before getting injured.
Its easy to say that this player should have been drafted by this team years later. When you're a GM, your samples are High School, AAU and College basketball. Plus one on one workouts and interviews with the players considering there are more than 60 players applying for the draft. The draft is a hit or miss, player development is what people need to put their focus at.
3:56 As a sixer fan, yes we are. Fultz not turning out well is one of the major reasons if not the major reason why 76ers are in a 2 power forward and 2 center mess
Its not a bad problem. I think Brand The GM may have overlooked the value of a good wing/perimeter scorer and playmaker in his lineup with Embiid and Simmons. Last season in the playoffs against the Sixers Jimmy Buckets was doing work bailing out the Sixers when Embiid was reduced to a normal player and Simmons wasn't much of a factor. It just so happens that the Raps had Kawhi to win that game 7. Simmons is also valuable enough as an asset to move for a wing player. The problem is if Brand can get some of these teams to bite and take Simmons without giving up too much.
Donvan Mitchell is the prime example of a player who was completely different from his college years and working very hard to change himself for the pro game. More so than the guys drafted before him which some were coming with absurd hype (Ball) unreal projections (Jackson) or picking based on pure athleticism (Fox, Frank 8th pick). And not every young can pick up and learn these skillsets the same way over the summer to add what they may be lacking. Or in some cases HEAVILY lack to compensate. Hell for what obvious weaknesses Mitchell has, he is a more complete player than most of the guys picked ahead of him in the video.
I’m a Jazz fan and we finally are being recognized by our talent. We finally are becoming legit contenders since The Mailman and John Stockton were here
I'm a Bulls fan and life is pain. I hope you're right about Lauri. I wouldn't be surprised if our player development (which is nonexistent) renders him useless until he's inevitably dealt to a decent team after the 2021 failure of an offseason we'll have.
Bam gets honorable mention. Jazz got mad value getting a scorer and playmaker wing type player outside the top 3 where the talent was there for that position. But the Heat scored a gem in quite honestly the best center for the modern NBA. Sure Bam can't shoot from beyond the arc but no other center in the league has his combination of athleticism, fluidity, handles and decision making which makes him one of the best passing big men in PnR/DHO offenses. He's no slouch on defense either with his size and wingspan.
I know people like to keep saying that Mitchell was “drafted by Denver”, but the Jazz traded up just to get Mitchell after they worked him out (Denver didn’t and wouldn’t have drafted him had they kept the 13th pick ) and told Denver to draft him as part of their trade deal.
