Still one of the best werewolf designs to this day. Love the fight between them. Van Helsing showing no mercy to Dracula. However I’m sad that she got killed off in the end. The sad look on Van Helsing’s face as a werewolf was so well done to make us realize what he had done, howling in sadness in causing her death unintentionally. 7:21 It is like he said to Anna earlier about her brother being a werewolf. “Anna, he is a werewolf. He is going to kill people.” “He can’t help it. It’s not his fault.” “I know but he’ll do it anyway.” Love this film. It will always remain a classic! Thanks for uploading.
This was the best chance to build a monsterverse. Having a character like Van Helsing, outside of the mainstream, to tie the monsters together was perfect. While at the time i thought it was too loud, too much action (slow down and talk for a moment) my daughter declared it her favorite move ever. My opinion has gone up over the years and it was a good film.
3:51 gave me chills man look how the werewolf sharpens its claws on the wall man. Showing Dracula the claws that are going to do serious damage to him. What werewolf in other movies did this. It remains a golden classic. Can't believe there was never a sequel to it.

Van Helsing is portrayed as a fighter genius. Not only he can learn almost instantly how to use any weapon, but he efortlessly knows how to use their new powers. In the final trade, he tackles Dracula while transforming. Thats just insane.
He seems to have been outmatched during the first part though. With Dracula being able to punch him without him being able to counter. But I guess it’s cause it is his first time transforming.
In the film commentary on the DVD, actor Richard Roxburgh does say hehad fun hamming up his Romanian accent, viewing Dracula as the ultimate satanic playboy badass.
*THE BEST TRANSFORMATION SCORE EVER Ana’s brother’s transformation was arguably one of the best transformations of all time. The orchestral BOOM perfectly conveyed pain and emotion*
One of the most powerful moments of the movie: Van Helsing as a werewolf howling as he realizes he has killed Anna, transcending into an agonized NO as he turns back into a human.
That little section between when Helwolf gets the needle and he transforms back, when he is still full wolf, but you know he fully understands the gravity of what he accidentally has just done... feels everytime...
Apparently because this movie received negative reviews for the most part, though it would gain a cult following. I personally liked it, easily favourite werewolves design.
@@thedeathgod1995 I mean, that's not a reason not to make it. That is the exact reason TO make it. Easy to step up the villain, since the one for the sequel would have been responsible for an Archangel's fall, and it would have also expanded upon the story. Greater stakes + the expansion of the world. Those two things are what sequels are meant to do
Nope. THE HOWLING (1981) has the most realistic werewolf ever. The CGI of Van Helsing has aged so bad and it is kinda primitive for nowadays standards. The werewolf of Van Helsing looks so unrealistic to the trained eye on the CGI from 2010s onwards. On the other hand, the werewolf of The Howling has aged pretty well, because the werewolf design relied on practical effects and animatronics.
It sucks Van Helsing never got a sequel, i could totally see the sequel of Van Helsing facing more monsters while exploring more of his origin to figure out if Dracula was telling the truth and he is really the arc angel Gabriel and if he is how and why did he become a mortal human and how was he connected to Dracula besides being his killer
From what I learned about the movie and its story Gabriel is in fact the Archangel Gabriel he was made physical in the form of man to fight evil on earth for God, Dracula became a target when he sold his soul to the devil , and if they have a past together maybe Dracula was also an angel just a lesser one and sold the soul he gained when he also became human to gain power again just a different type of power
The Werewolf’s Viciousness and Ferocity proved too much for even Dracula himself to handle like seriously the Werewolf fights like a berserker in there! A true monster
True like, i know it absurd but in the movie, Dracula was proven to be one hell of a vampire, a highly intelligent being, with the power of transforming into a hidious monster, also a very good combatant and in the end he's just wanted to befriended helsing despite he wanted to kill him to save the world, i mean wth dude ? i love almost anything about this movie but god damn it's frustrating
Not only did this movie have the best looking werewolves (at least in my opinion) I also loved how every person in werewolf form looked different like annas brother was brown and a slightly slimmer werewolf but van helsing was a very bulky muscular black werewolf and then the one we see at the start is a slimmer greyish werewolf

Shame we haven’t seen a Universal Monster movie on this level in years. Part of me wishes the characters from The Mummy and Van Helsing were brought back to continue their stories. Immotep has a tendency to never die, and I’m sure Brendan Fraser would enjoy coming back for some fun action. And who wants to see Hugh Jackman come back as Van Helsing? You know, for the longest time, I was never able to figure out why Dracula kept calling him Gabriel. Now I understand Gabriel is Van Helsing’s first name.
Yup! Also, in this movie, Dracula reveals that Van Helsing is literally the archangel, Gabriel, the "left hand of God" and the one who originally killed Dracula.

What I especially love about the werewolves in this movie is the fact that their fur color matches the hair color of when they were human. Anna’s brother had red hair, so his werewolf form had red fur. Van Helsing has black hair, so his werewolf form has black fur. Neat little detail.
