To my way of thinking your over choked I'd use improved cylinder for 25. 30 yards. And modified out to 40 45 you'll still kill your duck and have more forgiveness on your leads the patterns you say you like are way to tight there won't be any edible meat left on those ducks if you were turkey hunting with head shots I'd say you got the right idea just my way of thinking good luck in the feild I enjoyed your video it takes alot to put yourself out there like that
We shoot IC or mod for 25 and in. Carlsons cremator mid range works pretty good out to 40. If you're shooting alot of snows or high geese and ducks a full or extra full is nice. One of the bigger Duck and goose guides on RUclips said to use a full for everything and anything and just adjust your holds. Body for 20 yards, head for 30 yards and 6"-12" lead for 40 yards. Over 40 yards possibly 2 ft or so depending on the load. I haven't tried it yet but I plan to
All those patterns at 25 yards would be a shot up duck if you dead center it. You will kill more ducks with the widest pattern you had due to not having to be so precise. For the 30-35 yard shots the tighter patterns would work better. If you get a chance try more brands and loads . The patterns you are getting aren't bad but they could be a little more even. Glad to see someone shooting the paper and showing same shell same choke different gun.
I appreciate your feedback. I agree with you on the tightness of the pattern at 25 yards and what it would do do a duck at exactly 25 yards hitting dead center but its safe to say that the modified hitting dead center at 25 yards would have the same result. I used the 25 yard distance because some others people had requested it specificly , I rarely shoot ducks inside 30-35 yards and as the distance increase past 25 yards the pattern will open up a bit. Do you have any examples of what a " a little more even" could be, those patterns looked pretty dang good for any waterfowler. I would love to see what you are referring to to better educate myself. I'll do another video and stretch it out a bit further to see what happens at 30-40 yards. Thanks again.
The code black goose is designed for 3.5 inch shells, the code black goose should shoot about the same as the duck with 3 inch shells. The code black duck should shoot a modified or improved modified with 3.5s. I can't be sure because I haven't tested it myself, but knowing how the patternmasters work it should be true
Not really a fair comparison between the 2.75” Federal and the 3” Heavy Hammer. Maybe try 2.75” HH compared to 2.75” Federal to rule out one or the other. Thanks for the info. At the end of the day it’s all about what you’re confident with. Used to shoot trap competitively in college and ran a full choke all the time because I was comfortable with it. Stick with it. Semper fi to your son
Thanks for the feedback and you may have a point, at the time I only had those to compare. I appreciate suggestion and I may try it again and see how it goes.
I've been a fan of federal as well and your right they are dirty but as I was saying in the video.....my combination of choke and gun doesn't seem to like it.
My A400 doesnt like the federals either....i shoot kent 2.0 number 2s 1 1/4 shells and they are great out of modified. They did recently change the powder in the federal speed shok and its supposed to burn cleaner.
By far the best even pattern was the Federal, At 25yds which is a chip shot you don't even need a full choke but you do need a even pattern

Absolutely nothing wrong with that Federal pattern that's a beautiful pattern for 25 yards

thanks for the info and you are spot on
A test with the the black duck with 3.5” shell would be something to see . Apparently it would be a modified result.
I'll have to give it a try

When reading about the pattern master, the duck choke was intended for 3” shells and goose choke for 3 1/2” shells.
What happens if you shoot a 3.5 inch shell in the code black duck? Will it just pattern more like a modified instead of a full?
I'll have to give it a shot and see what it does. I don't shoot a lot of 3.5 but lets see what happens
I like federal patterns great in my gun but is the dirtiest shell I've shot
I've been a fan of federal as well and your right they are dirty but as I was saying in the video.....my combination of choke and gun doesn't seem to like it.
@@g7outdoors497 the only choke that worked was cremator in mine ,patternmaster and kicks didnt, once I finish this case I'm done with federal
