Last season here in ND I used a Cremator long range for everything close or far away. This year I switched to a Patternmaster Duck and I hammered almost everything I shot at, far less cripples. I haven't put them side by side on paper. I still like my Cremator, but I would probably only use that now on real tight decoying duck hunts, smaller bird to eat more of the pattern at close range rather than a honker at 40 yards
I used to shoot #2s, 3.5in Kent Fast Steel for large ducks and Canada geese. #4s, 3in Fast Steel for small ducks. Now I shoot BOSS 4s and 5s, 2.75in. BOSS customer service is the best.🇺🇸. Good post, good hunting 👍
I like my kicks full (invector plus) choke for boss 2 3/4” 3/5s and at 35 yards it’s a dead duck and density inside a basketball size area with a spread out of 30” plus from “flyers” that hit outside. Very similar results with a muller choke (decoy) with the boss shells as well. I also shoot some hevi-metal longer range 6s for woodies and teal that pattern very similar to the boss shells.
Great video! Love you channel. Recently subscribed. I have Family in the Abq. My Brother used to duck hunt along the Rio Grande many years ago. Do you do any upland hunting for dove and quail? I upland hunt in Az. Not much in the way of waterfowl where I go hunting other than jumping stock tanks and ditches. Keep up the great work Brother!
Nice Video. I didn't hear you say anything about fragmentations from the boss Bismuth with the Pattern master choke tubes because of the the stud rings. Thanks
I know it maybe they did but it patterned almost exactly the same as the carlson so it must not fragment as much as ive been told. Especially with the pattenmaster goose that gave me the best pattern by far
Soon as I heard you say Boss told you you needed a “Constriction Choke” …..what do you think a choke does??? It “Constricts” Pro clay target shooters talk in thousands of an inch “constriction”. You have to find out what your particular gun make and model “Nominal Bore Diamter” is, and say it’s .740”, shooting a .010” IC choke means your shot is exiting through a .730” diameter. The more you typically constrict our shot the worse patterns we will see once put in paper. Try a more open choke especially for steel shot, .020” or Mod is plenty in most cases. Don’t let your ego base your decision on chokes because when you do, your success rate is lessened by using too tight a choke. Hope this helps and best of luck
In the Carlson Cremator series, the Midrange is actually a Light Mod (.015) and the Long Range is an Improved Mod (.025), not Modified (.020) and Full (.030). So, not quite apples to apples, but cool video. I love the Boss shells!
I have the pattern master anaconda, and it did well. I now have a kicks and it does very well also. You can check out the video I posted if you like. In the next few days, I will be getting a Muller choke, and I have high hopes that it will be the best of the best. If you haven’t watched Joel Strickland‘s surviving duck season shotgun video it’s pretty cool. Talks a lot about pattern master, and the shot string. The cool, slow motion video is epic. Great video.
Good luck this season. I would highly recommend you pattern off of a lead sled. If you can remove, "you" as a variable, you'll know exactly what the gun, choke and shot will do if you are 100% on your game. JM2C
I shoot the same gun with a carlson's (i always used carlson's chokes shooting collegiately because a lot of the other stuff was hype and carlson's was inexpensive and kept me solidly on the team), big take away from this test which I've seen in numerous tests is this: Same or similar results Patternmaster- $100 Carlson's- $45 That's $55 saved for more (like maybe 5 more) Boss shells or 100 rounds of blue box 🤣
Ya those 2 carlson chokes were 110 i think and the patternmaster was like 80 so big price difference bit i love that blue box but i wasn't sure if i would find any and got that boss
@@riograndereaper I've been wanting to try boss for a while, just a tough bill when everything is so expensive right now. Haven't heard any real negatives about them though!
Ya i noticed that after i made the video... I feel like the patternmaster still hits harder i dont know if its cuz the rings and constriction dont mix or what but i used them bolth last season and i prefer the patternmaster
You seem like a nice guy, but you need to pattern. Shells and chokes add a big piece of paper 30 inch. Circle 40 yd, that's standard. It's been around for years and years. And years and years and why you young guys seem to just stick up a little duck. Target or paper plate and say oh yeah, that's great. It's not the truth, man. Do some research do it right? And you have a lot of people watching. I'm learning something
Those patterns are terrible. You should try a big piece of butcher paper to see if it’s more dense than that . I use a Patternmaster code black goose with 2 shot steel. My targets are covered in shot.
I did this test with Boss last season with factory full out of my weatherby element, was getting like 92% pattern density at 30 yds. Did same test this year with Carlson cremator, not as impressive grouping.
Ya i think when it comes to constriction tubes there is only so much you can do i think in my experience in the field even thought on paper carlson patterns better i think patternmaster hits harder on live birds
You seem like such a genuine guy! Awesome video! Was exactly what I was looking for!! Thanks

That has been my exact experience I'm running the patternmaster again

Thanks man im a big boss fan now as well👍

Carlsons mid-range stays in my gun all of regular season for ducks/geese. Patterns great for most duck hunting situations/distances.
Wooooo YEAHHHH baby that's what I'm talking about baby wooooo 🤠🤠🇺🇲
My sons 20ga with the Carlson cremator MR and Kent fast steel is a deadly combo.
🔥🔥🔥ready for the opener brother
Me too
Great video! Love you channel. Recently subscribed.

I upland hunt in Az. Not much in the way of waterfowl where I go hunting other than jumping stock tanks and ditches.

Need to try black cloud man that’s my fav it patterns great with carolson chokes
With the cremator did you use the MR or LR choke?
Nice video very interesting comparison ,good luck with your opener
Thanks man good luck to you too mam
Try the remington sportsman...for my setup they are my #1 steel shell.

I am curious where are you from? That desert area would be interesting to hunt on
New Mexico that place is great for dove and those foothills have alot of mule deer in them
Cremator with black cloud is where it’s at

Ya funny enough i got a led slead 2 weeks after i made this video thut good luck to you too bro
And then shoot mounting as if birds are coming into range so you can see how you really shoot
Carlson Cremator long range, Vs, Trulock precision hunter Improved Modified,,,, they have the same constriction
Love it….SCREW RUclips……,! God bless man good video……..!

Ya just used them for the first time this morning and you can tell they hit hard when you breast the duck out
Shooting stationary targets tells us nothing about shotstrings, because they all eventually get there that never happens in crossing shots.
Cremator has rings same design as the pattern master
Ya i noticed that after i made the video... I feel like the patternmaster still hits harder i dont know if its cuz the rings and constriction dont mix or what but i used them bolth last season and i prefer the patternmaster
And pattern master it’s great I have the anaconda pattern master mod and full
Totally agree man i used the carlson for a few days last season and i switched back to the patternmaster immediately i still think they are the best
whatch joel stircklands "surviving duckseason" videos, youll be suprised about patternmasters
Omg this is bad for long range

ive never had a problem with bismuth out of my patternmaster
Me neither i have been running bismuth through my patternmaster almost all season haven't had any issues
@@riograndereaper personally I think his gun patterns poorly
