Thank you so very, very much for sharing this gem. While i first heard the name WC Handy decades ago, i had no true idea as to who he was and why he was/is so noteworthy. Yes, he is indeed the father of the blues, but more importantly, he is the progenitor of America's ONLY homegrown contribution to the arts as the conductor explains! So timely to find this now as the purveyors of CRT come to power partly in the hopes of erasing TRUE history and all traces of Black contributions to America & the world.
I grew up on all these artist, feels like a warm cozy blanket every beautiful black movie Black Tree Tv made available to me. Blessings BlackTree TV, I will follow you wherever you go.
What a great movie.. all star cast... including Billy Preston.. I have always heard he was a child actor.. and how about Cab Callaway playing the bad guy..now that was golden..lol .. love this piece of cinema..❤
what a treat, those famous artists all in one movie, all still young, I enjoy that, I don't believe in separating people into nations, religions or races, they all can be wonderful. Yeah, I like jazz. But also Bach and afro-cuban. and much more. This movie is a gem! God can be proud.
OMGoodness, how cute was Billy Preston, and such a great little actor. Who knew some day he would grow up to be called the fifth BEATLES. Thank you so much for sharing this,.
Wow, he's playing Handy. I didn't know about W C Handy until many years ago. I had the privilege to hear about him in Huntsville Alabama. Every year they had a festival honoring him. Look at the actors in this movie.
Thank you for St. Louis Blues; my mother had an eclectic collection of music that surely included all of these great performers. I am truly happy to have seen and enjoyed this film.
The all-star cast includes the then veteran Afro Puerto Rican actor Juano Hernandez, whose last movie was with Sidney Poitier ("They Call Me Mr. Tibbs).
I like how Ella Fitzgerald is barely even in the movie but they put her name in front of Ruby Dee's name. Crazy huh? That's ok, that's how movies are typecast in today's times as well. Her name was just bigger at the time. Beautiful film.
He's Nat King Cole and some of his story. He was a shy man who had trouble singing loudly partly because of his beloved father's opinions. He was worried about music in bar rooms being sinful and circumstances too. He changed his mind over time is true. People were mean to him( Nat King ng Cole)when he was little because he was brilliant. My father was his friend and helped him sing his songs louder and so did his father's approval. The women have a half sister, the Indian woman in ' the jungle book '. Both women were mothers of Dr King s family. One was killed in a tragedy in Africa and Nat King Cole s 2nd wife was the other woman, her sister. We lost them both to tragedy at the same time. Drug assaults and invaders of such kinds existed in areas they lived in at the time. He had that pen name in some areas of WH Handy. Stalkers of musicians and bigots thereof have been cruel wherever they go. I looooove these actors and thoroughly enjoyed this because I knew much of it was his story. I adore his music too! 💕❤ Chrissy Comey, Exupery
NAT "KING" COLE was literally tall, dark and handsome. The latter leads an all-star lineup: Eartha, Ruby, Pearlie Mae, Ella (The First Lady of Song), Juano, Cab, Mahalia (The First Lady of Gospel), Red Callender, Lee Young, Teddy Buckner, Barney Bigard, Roy Glenn, Jester Hairston, Sam McDaniel (Hattie's Brother), George Washington, and an adolescent Billy Preston.
Playing on the street is fine. Did she say there's nothing respectable about a musician.😮😮😮😮😮😮 Now now now that's no way to be. Down right disrespectable wanting someone to be as you want them to be. He wasn't doing anything illegal.
That's just the conditioning that has been placed on the world, especially Black ppl through Christianity. I grew up Christian since early childhood & can appreciate how it makes us think twice about wrongdoings; but I can also see how it has pushed black ppl away from our natural divine spirituality.
Didn’t miss her at all. The title only gives us a certain amount of characters and I adore Ruth Carter (I meant Ruby Dee) and Ossie Davis both of whom I met while they were here, the description mentions them as well as Count and others
@@blacktreemedia I apologize for that....Thank you for correcting me....I enjoyed that movie so much....The sound quality of the instruments and the vocals....I was just talking to myself about everything....Thank you again for showing the movie...Wow!!!!

Well, not the father of the blues. He just elaborated on the original Delta Blues.

Little Billy Preston 👍🏾 Mr. Nothing from Nothing.
Lovely 😊
Thank you! Cheers!
❤
You can hear the man himself Mr. W.H.Handy playing his famous song on trumpet on the Ed Sullivan Show in 1948. It is on RUclips.
Ima look that up. thanks.
Pearl Bailey could be Queen Latifahs mother 😂
Frfr
😂😂😂I see it!
Down to the deep raspy voice!
She got those vives.
THANKS! I was trying to figure out who she looked like.
And a young Billy Preston as William? (is this the same Billy Preston of “Will it go round in Circles?” fame)?
Yes.

So many GREAT musicians in this fine film! Though it is not at all an accurate portrayal of the life of W C Handy.
How so?

Sorry, but you may have forgotten one more actor. She played WC Handy's girlfriend. She, in real life, and her husband were both actors.
Ruth Carter

Ruby Dee!!! Ruby Dee and Ossie Davis were married until the end.

@@blacktreemedia I have to say Ruth Carter doesn't even sound like Rube Dee. I can't imagine where that came from.
ALL this BLACK talent and was and still is underrated because of Racism sad ignorance 😊😅😂🎉❤
The schemers and snakes hang around music artist to feed off them yesterday and today
Did not want to hear your "singing!"
