      I don’t think they’d go for it, especially with an X-Mount. VistaVision is just full frame, which they haven’t really shown any interest in apart from crop modes on the GFX

  • @TheJ_G
    @TheJ_G 6 месяцев назад +24

    It seems like they don’t need to do much to make the jump. Just use the XH2s as a foundation, and build in the creature comforts of a dedicated video camera. Include things like video tools, IBIS, internal ND’s, and detachable EVF from the GFX cameras. Also stick with the cfxpress cards, and the x-mount to allow for legacy and current Fuji photo lenses.
    You put all that in a dedicated video camera AND ALSO include their awesome film simulations (along with flog/flog2) to match decades of films made with film, you’d have a camera that not only fits what the market currently offers, but offers a creative touch that most of the other manufacturers ignore almost entirely for post-related creativity.
    Also… Anyone else think it’s interesting that the next X-summit is in Australia? The home of Blackmagic? The fujirumors guy has also stated that his sources are saying that a new Fuji body that’s going to surprise everyone is coming later this year.

    • @Christo_glenn
      @Christo_glenn 6 месяцев назад

      Do you think it would be possible for them to add of OLP? I know the x-trans is a bit different, but I feel like the issue with the XH2-S is the over-sharp image. I know it’s a very easy fix in post, but I do feel like professionals might not like the sharpness.

    The color science and film simulations are the main things that make me love Fujifilm. Something I would love to see is incorporating film emulation into F-log. It would be great to see Eterna, Astia, etc as a Cineon Log format. I have conversion LUTs that are supposed to convert F-log to film sims, but it would be amazing if that was baked into the log image, and then you can convert that to rec709 to end up with the film simulation. Or they could provide a film print LUT specific to their Cineon curve. I'd love to see lots of other cinema camera features but this would be a top wish list item for me.

    I really like this debate you bring. I'm actually very pleased to have switched from Canon to Fuji. I bought the X-H2S and it's an incredible camera. And in this price range (which I could afford), for me it was the best choice: the hybrid that I found most interesting. Including the Sony FX30, Canon R6 II, Panasonic among others.
    Thinking about a camera specifically for cinema from Fuji, that maintains its color personality, etc., is really something that delights me. Even though it will take a while for me to have the money to buy it. LOL
    With cinema lenses, the X-H2S delivers incredible quality for those who make independent films (in this case, with a very low budget).

    • @jhaskell233
      @jhaskell233 6 месяцев назад +1

      We're actually switching away from Fuji xh2s to the Lumix s5iix.
      Better price and the image quality blows the Fuji out of the water unfortunately. Better lenses too (Leica designed L Mounts.)
      If you're looking for something with a great look straight out of camera than Fuji is a good move. Just watch out for those highlights.

    • @rafael_daguerre
      @rafael_daguerre 6 месяцев назад +2

      @@jhaskell233I saw some comparisons between them: Fuji x Lumix. But Fuji interested me even more. I think they are 2 excellent cameras. When in doubt, today I'll stick with the Fuji X-H2S. I think that at this level of quality, the choice ends up being a bit of our personal preference. And as for lenses: nothing that a good adapter can't solve. And, honestly, I will never have the resources to have so many lenses on offer. I need a good kit. And I think I can do that with Fuji too.

    I’ve had this thought as well. If they made an XH2s with internal ND, proper batteries, and xlr ins, I would buy three in a heartbeat.. I was at a camera show a few months back and asked a Fuji rep about it. He said he obviously couldn’t say anything, but then said look who Fujifilm would be burning if they released a small cine cam. Much of Fuji’s market is in pro level lenses made for cinema & broadcast, on Canon broadcast cameras, Sony cinema cameras, etc… The implication was that a Fuji FX6 equivalent would be problematic for their larger business relationships for their core lens lines. :’(

      Man, if they start off with a more basic cinema camera, like an FX3 style body, they can get that out there for under $3,750 imo. Then a mid range body for $5.5-6k, and a flagship with a stacked GFX sensor for under $10k ($8,999?) Oooo what a dream

    On most commercial shoots I've had to shoot the ad with a cine camera and then switch to a photo camera for stills. Hybrids just aren't sturdy enough for a full shoot. If Fuji made a dedicated cine camera with all the needed codecs and connections, but also with a photo mode, they would really fill a gap.

    FUJIFILM raw external recorder with 14 bit or higher readout. Something similar to black magics offering but better suited for fujis current line of cameras and compatible with their new cinema cameras over the next few years. Better exposure settings, EL ZONE, sound pre amps. Yes I know ninja has some of these features ,but still no 14 bit, and Fuji could maintain their color science and film sims.

    I honestly don’t think that Fuji would put out a cinema or production camera. The reason being is because we simply need to take a look at Panasonic. They’ve been killing it in the hybrid game yet at the very same time they have made excellent cinema and production cameras, and they have not sold well at all. That space seems to be dominated by Cannon and Sony for the most part. I don’t think there is an incentive there for them to launch out into that space.

    • @Eyeofkamau
      @Eyeofkamau 6 месяцев назад

      That’s panasonic. Different system, mount, lenses, etc. Fujifilm’s already deeply invested in the cinema market with theirtop tier cinema lenses; I think a camera will come. That space will continue to be dominated by canon, sony, red and arri, but a cinema camera by fuji is still something that fuji and their customers can really benefit from, it isn’t just about the competition. I do unit photography for films and DPs are always surprised to see me shooting with a fuji camera, most of them also wishing fuji would release a proper production camera. I think the film industry will be intrigued by what a fuji cine cam would have to offer, just by the popularity of their cinema lenses and film stocks alone. Blackmagic has lower value in the cine market as well but people still use and buy their cameras because there are different cameras for everyone.

    I think a lot of what you are saying is spot on, except that Fuji's focus is on making cinema cameras with the GFX size sensor (which covers vista) under the $10k price point. Let's just hope the next iteration of that sensor is super fast, maybe even global shutter!

  • @tc_da_f
    @tc_da_f 5 месяцев назад +1

    I think if they make three types of cameras one the box type that would be in the 6.5k to 7.5k range with all the ports like you said and two a full compact cinema camera with a fan in the 2.5 k to 4.5 k price range and they all have to shoot in pro res and raw in camera, cause black magic, why not!?! The third would be a bigger/ or thicker compact body in 3.5k to 5.7k with fewer ports than the box style but more than the 2nd on the box style and the bigger compact one would both an ND filter on but not the smaller one that in the 2.5 K range the first and the third one would have super 35 sensors and the could drop f-log 3 lol

  • @vanburen08
    @vanburen08 6 месяцев назад +1

    It would be a dream if this happened. Something I could use on set that has capabilities within a more professional environment. It's difficult to create cinema level rigs when all the cables hit you in the face, having something that doesn't need to be a Frankenstein rig would be incredible. Another facet that isn't thought of enough would be bringing their prime lenses into a cinema housing. Fujinon already has the zooms, and having primes would change the game. Much like Canon or Sony, having an inclusive environment for those that love Fuji, it would be under one house. Another idea would be to have a cinema color pipeline that isn't just based on Eterna, but on a few of their film stocks.

  • @DiodeFilms
    @DiodeFilms 5 месяцев назад

    Fujifilm likes to stay away from saturated markets. That's why they don't make full frame cameras, but do make a medium format option. They didn't think they could make a dent in a market already saturated by every other manufacturer, so they made something no one else was.
    The question isn't whether than could make a great cine camera, of course they could, but whether they can break into the cine market, which is probably an even more rigid market to break in to in terms of brand trust and workflow. Sony is most of the market these days, and their A9 III shows they're probably going to have the best tech for the foreseeable future as well.
    I think if they do ever make a cine camera, they might be more tempted to base it off the GFX sensor, not the xh2s, simply because that's a less crowded segment. They probably just won't make a cine camera, though I'd love to be proven wrong.

    Fujifilm’s image has a similar vibe to ARRI Alexa. They could make the image a little less ‘ sharp ‘ and soften the edges of subjects and also work on the motion interpolation give it more filmic judder that you get from a mechanical shutter.
    I feel like cinema cameras need a built in zero latency transmission system. But that would be expensive.

    The reason Fujifilm may never produce a dedicated cinema camera could be due to the potential market disruption it might cause. Fujifilm's expertise in color science and their commitment to exceptional image quality would likely result in a cinema camera that could outshine many current competitors. Such a move might be seen as too disruptive in a market where established brands have long held dominance, possibly leading to significant industry pushback. In a way, Fujifilm's success in still photography might paradoxically be a reason they hold back in the cinema camera market, to maintain balance and avoid an upheaval in industry dynamics.

    The xh2s in a cine body and can directly write into an SSD and accept v mount mini directly, an internal ND filter system or at least an official adapter, false color ,custom monitoring lut plus the Fuji film sim as luts for us to further play with, internal fan, XLR on body or at least mini XLR but can be solved with rigging a zoom F3 and using a line in aux to feed audio, expanded timecode, camera can be used over the shoulder, lots of custom buttons and dials, a control remote handle (like the fs7 mark II maybe) more granual shutter control for flicker like in the xt5, maybe internal pro res raw so we wouldn't need the Atmos ninja v, desqueeze for anamorphic lenses in body for monitoring without an external monitor, a proper pricing not much over the original release MSRP of xh2s ( doubt it will be as these features will at least set it to be over the 1400$ plus mark over the price of the xh2s which was around 2400$ so about 4000$ I guess I sure hope not though) it will be an instant buy for me and I bet it will make lots of productions more than happy, it will give blackmagic and fx3 a run for their money for sure and offer a unique sensor into the selection.
    A fully rigged xh2s is plenty pro, but it could be way better if was done as primary video centric only camera, the sensor and open gate capability does wonders for anamorphic shooters and agencies that also offer social media formats or commercial work.

    Have an X-t4 and want a X-H2s for my a Cam and B cam tbh, though I do feel a bit hard to fully commit to Fuji. Like for the more coporate work I do I feel I may need a sony just due to Client demand etc. This is also why I havent invested into their lenses etc.
    I think for me the nody could either be FX3 C70 or FX6 style i'd prefer the later for better batteries though this could be problematic for fuji so maybe FX3 would help keep costs down. SDI I also think isn't strictly needed for first outing though If they went fx6 route they could update the MK lenses. While also Delving into their long history of making broadcats and cinema lenses. They could do this without the fx6 stle body but ergonomics would help for sure. I'd avoid box camera. Stick to S35 locking X mount just a beefed up X - H2S bury the photo features but keep them. HDMI 2.1 I would have bRAW internal if possible.

    There are three things I would like to see from Fujifilm, and a cinema camera is actually one of them, but with some special points:
    1)- I would like to see A Cinema Camera from Fujifilm, but something special. And not another camera just to sell Fuji-Color and nothing special. Create something new, like a camera with a new Crop Factor Sensor, like an Aps-H, or something with Sensor Crop x1.4. But with Drop ND filters inside and, something that can be better than the Canon C70.
    2)- Make a Native Drop ND Filter Adaptor for the X-Mount. That can make a big difference helping people to choose to buy a Fuji camera, or any brand : "having the useful accesories available for better user experience and better overwhole usability".
    3)- Just be the best, don't imitate other brands that used to crop something in the cheap camera, to protect other things on other cameras more expensive and all those kind staff. Just be the best , the king of kings, giving people what they pay for with heat and happiness, If you can and you have the possibility" Like, "the 4k 60p crop in the Fuji XS20". It does not make sense to crop the 4k 60p and 240p FullHD. Even when there is, for just $100 more, the Canon eos r7, a camera as good as the XS20 or better than the SX20 for having uncrop 4k 60p (in terms of specs and overwhole usability). Just give to people ( a firmware update) an option where the can choose a crop good quality 4k 60p or a less quality uncrop 4k 60p and 240p FullHD, at lest. And the same thing goes for the Fujifilm XH2S. So, if the Fuji X100VI would have the same 13+ Stop DNR F-Log2 and the same 4k 60p Crop, why you didn't give us some 14+ DNR and (Uncrop) Slowmotion 10-bit Video in this model (hybrid)?? "If you wanna do it, jut do it better than the competition".
    Look at Panasonic, with the Lumix G9 II and Lumix GH6. They give you, with the best intention, the best they have for your money, compare to all the competition". Even a lossless 4k 120p 10-bit UNCROP, but you have it if you need it.
    Or like Canon, with Eos R8, they give you in fullfram body, "uncrop everrything they have, without hesitation". Even the Canon eos R6 II, shares nearly specs of the R8. But beyond that, we could clearly see better opportunities and the feeling of making a good purssach .
    So, I think, the point two " Native Drop ND Filter Adaptor" and the third one "Give us the best than the competition, like more options", can attract more people on the system by believing that with Fujifilm the future always gonna be better, but not igual or worst than the other brands. That important for us.

    I really enjoy working with my X-T3 and X-T4 and in the next year or 2 will be looking at upgrading to a more "cinema" featured camera. The new BMCC Full Frame got my attention but its lack of ProRes RAW and form factor is an issue for me (I'll wait for a Pro version) and am eagerly awaiting Sony's new cinema cameras and the fx3 Mk II, which might just steal me away from Fuji.
    Of course I'll still keep my X-T4 for photography but my "buy in" into Fuji will be all but over.

    I don't think that Fujifilm making a cinema camera would make any impact unless they can produce a somewhat affordable medium format/vista vision one.
    What can Fujifilm with a APS-C sized sensor really do in an already crowded cinema camera market that isn't there already?
    The fact that they have their own lens mount isn't helping either as long as they don't create cinema style lenses for the x-mount which makes the entire growing into it not possible unless they are willing to rehouse their current PL/E-mount cinema lenses to a native xmount.
    And the cold hard fact is that currently EVERY mirrorless mount has this amount of mount options. E-mount even has autofocus for vintage lenses with a third party mount.
    And honestly, the image you are getting out of a Fujifilm isn't that different than other cameras. Not as big as fans like to say it is, especially if your colorist has done their magic on it.

    I just don't think that there is a market for it. I think a lot of Fuji film users and I'm part of the FujiFilm community. Yep and I shoot professionally in Australia and I teach Photography and I don't do much videography work but I do do bits and pieces every now and then what I think well what do I think is that they just isn't the market for this? That's the problem. How many would they actually sell? If you're gonna invest that amount of money into developing the technology you've got it then recoup the money back in sales and I'm just not sure they would recoup the money back in sales I think it's a great idea and I love your passion and I enjoy your channel and yes I've hit that subscribe button ages ago. And then we would run into the problem of auto focus and we know that Fuji cameras can be a little bit dodgy on the auto focus in some situations. I think it's actually overstated a fair bit. I've use Fiji cameras now for quite awhile in weddings portraits and a whole bunch of other stuff and I've had, there's a few tricks that need to know. I just don't think there is market but I could be wrong. I'm happy to be.

    Curious, why would you want SDI in on a camera? To what end?
    Obviously 6K open gate as the XH-2S is now. It needs to have dual 12g SDI outputs, TC i/o (one each) and genlock input. Guess it has to have HDMI even though HDMI sucks and it probably should be able to be powered via a USB C connection as well. It needs dual XLR inputs in the body, not on some stupid handle like Sony did with the FX6. It needs a 3.5mm audio input jack for those who might want to use something like the new Zacuto Micro Boompole for documentary or event work. Box camera is fine, it's boring and generic but seems to what almost everyone wants. Going back to Sony, a non-terrible screen on this new Fuji would be nice, the Sony screens range form barely adequate (FX9) to horrible (FX6, 3, 30) Bonus points if you can make it 1500 nits and a decent size. Internal NDs with no color shift would be a huge plus and at least 8 stops.
    XF Mount is great, it would be an opportunity for Fuji to ramp up their MKX zoom sales with a couple more offerings and add an APSC C line of cine primes. I don't really care about AF on this camera, but improving the current level found on the XH-2S to be put on this camera and to be more Sony-like would help sales. As we all know, the AF on the XF lenses ranges from ultra slow and clunky to not bad so a new lineup of video oriented AF zooms with servo control would sell, I'd personally be thrilled with the two current MKX zooms. As long as it's XF mount, I think you'd be covered as XF is so adaptable and many of us have Cine primes in XF mount, EF mount or E mount.
    I think this camera would seriously sell. The BMD FF 6K is a great camera but bulky, very plasticky and weird form factor. The Komodo is meh, I guess good if you like REDs? The C70 is a good camera but bad, crappy build quality, no SDI out and a screen that is begging to be snapped off. The C70 form factor is also dumb. The FX6 sells like hotcakes but the more I've used it, the more I think it's the cheapest and worst built modern cinema camera on the market with GREAT images, small size and weight but horrific build quality and LOTs of owners are complaining about things breaking on them constantly. Broken mic mount, sagging LCD mount, broken top handle, malfunctioning menu dial, malfunctioning LCD port, camera grip that is impossible to lock down tight, always has a looseness to it that screams junky build quality.
    If Fuji uses metal instead of so much plastic, like Canon generally does (C200/300 MKIII are built like little tanks!), and doesn't obsess over weight and making this camera as small as humanly possible, it's easier to end up with better build quality. Cine cameras don't need to be tiny. Small is nice but build and being able to configure and rig out is much more important. The FX6, once you rig it out professionally, is too small. Our Fuji mirrorless cameras have pretty good overall build quality so this camera will need to be built even better. This needs to be a PRO level with PRO build. The FX6/C70 are not built to PRO level build, they prosumer builds and when you press them and use them hard, they break. Fuji can do better and differentiate themselves from these two competitors simply by build quality.
    I've been asking Fuji for a cine camera since the XH-1 came out so who knows if this is all just wishful thinking? Fuji has never, to my knowledge, given any indication of building a cine camera, even though we have been begging them to do so for many years. Fingers crossed.

      Wouldn’t a great native evf also be a dream come true for a cinema camera in this range. Fuji could make a digital Aaton minima. If they could also maintain the boot up time of their mirrorless camera’s it could truly be something special and would perfectly align with their philosophy for classical inspired photo camera’s.

    Was really hyped about the idea, but the LENS mount is backbone of eveyrthing. How you will convince people to invest in X-Mount ciné caméra or X-Mount Accessories ? And grow with it ? While Sony, Canon has tons of lens, L-mount alliance is growing. So unless they have E-Mount / L-Mount user interchageable mount, or as you said invest TONS of MONEY for Video AF Lenses that parts from what is on the market (super clean/super sharp/super contrasty)
    Appart from those massive investment I can't see Fujifilm doing anything than crippling the market by only convincing some Indie DP that use to have Blackmagic / Lower tier Red cameras.

      C100 or FX6-ish form factor, boxy/camcorder style with X-H2S sensor and proprietary half-demosaiced RAW codecs like B-RAW would be sweet. Along with all the I/O ports required for the usual stuff. Bonus points if they can make an electronic VND like the one in the FX6. Hopefully open gate 60p too.

    Fuji is behind the times. The GFX100 II had so much potential but they dropped the ball in the video department. Camera companies need to push boundaries instead of haphazardly following what every other camera company is doing. Fuji needs to focus on making partnerships with Lens manufactures and accessory companies like sigma and Dji. The readout speed for the GFX 100 II is terrible.

      yes. I've shot over 500 weddings with x-t4s and xh2Ss. The Lumix S5iiX is lightyears ahead of Fuji. Not mentioning Canon and Sony which in my opinion have the edge on Lumix (but are more expensive.)
