Love that movie! What exactly caused the world catastrophe in that film? I think it was mentioned in the beginning but I can't recall. There was something about radiation but that's all I remember.
Mad Max 2 is still the most realistic and believable. No Robots,Aliens, Virus,Zombies,Nuclear War. Just the resources running out and civilisation turning feral.
Love it! I would like to answer the question asked at the end of the video. "Why don't the machines just poison the atmosphere to kill the humans?" The main reason is this: Skynet, the AI that started and is in charge of it all, wants to keep earth in fairly good condition, and releasing poison in the atmosphere would definitely harm the environment to an unreversable level. Why would it use nuclear weapons you ask? To keep it short (TOO LATE ), Skynet, when first activated and up linked to the internet (Which was stupid on the human's part), was a little like a small toddler. It thought nuclear weapons was the best option, and didn't consider the long term affects. It later 'grew up' to say, and realized that it may not have been the smartest decision. After it wiped out the humans, it did in fact plan on creating a peaceful, galaxy-wide society of machines. This part of the story is often overlooked. Basically, it's because Skynet doesn't want to hurt the environment.

The ice would break under its own weight and cause a colossal climate shift. And like what happened about 100,000 years ago, the world would freeze over again and causing a number of problems (the obvious one is the actual freeze.)
Actually if we burn all the fossil fuel on earth, we'll just return to what the world used to be like during the aeons of the dinosaurs, where the global warming used to be 3-4 times higher then now, with no ice on the poles, but still the earth didn't drown, because with increased temperature, we'll just get increased absorbed water into the atmosphere and a whole lot more rain. After a while the shallow oceans will fill up with organic matter, the ocean will get drained from oxygen and get poisonous. It will also create a whole lot of fossil fuel, if given enough time, and maybe a future civilization will fill their tanks up with the life forms these times, as we pour out our waste into the oceans. Now and then volcanic eruptions, meteors and the likes might cause the earth to cool again. But most likely the human race will exterminate itself over the fight for the last scraps of fuel, creating a mad max scenario.

I think "The Book of Eli" must include in here. That is one of the best apocalyptic film I ever watch. Because it is closed to the truth that might happen.
I like Knowing, it's not just where the future disasters occur, I like it because it's emotional for a father and son moment. I also like 2012, I also find it emotional when the son shows affection to his father, this movie isn't really about them. Knowing shows more.
Because the events that make that inappropriate happened 14 years ago, and while it was a tragedy, it's in the past and most people have already moved on
You do realize that the apocalypse and the extinction of mankind are two entirely different concepts, right? We are not only beings on this Earth; Earth would go on just fine without us.
Rennoc717 Looking from the universe point of view.. we humans are pretty much worthless.. and since our existence is destroying the world it is right to say that we are a virus to earth's ecosystem. (Just to be clear.. we are bringing to extinction races of animals, we are destroying forests and contaminating our air and lands).
Rennoc717 I don't think anyone was really saying that. The whole point of my post was to differentiate human extinction from a literal apocalypse, I did not mean to start a whole existential debate over human importance.
Knowing.. The book of Eli.....and also this movie (2009) that's not well-known called The Road......Knowing is caused by a massive solar flare.....Book of Eli is nuclear I believe...and The Road is something involving Global warming I think.
One was to turn us into batteries, the other was to eradicate what we know as society so remainers could be either exterminated or kept in camps for labour.
Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy! Earth is destroyed by Vogons to make way for a hyperspatial express route five minutes before the conclusion of its 10-million-year program.

In Clifford D. Simak's short novel "Desertion", astronauts transformed into creature capable to survive Jupiter's environment learn that living as these creature gives eternal happiness. The rest of humanity learns about it and everyone decide to turn into Jovian creatures too, resulting in the end on humanity on Earth.
Kamizushi Akinari That sounds creepy! Also how the fuck can you survive in Jupiters enviroment? It has techncially no ground cause its a gas giant! But still, the reason I said it sounded creepy, is because I imagine the creatures would look like necromorphs for some reason xD vignette3.wikia.nocookie.net/deadspace/images/c/c4/DS2_Necromorphs.jpg/revision/latest?cb=20101212220129 But how do the creatures actually look like?
rdejano3 - Mile & Dejo I don't think it's ever mentionned how it looks looks like although I can't verify for sure since I don't have this book anymore. I remember that Simak insisted it was a very strong creature capable to make huge jumps, etc. I don't know how it survived. I don't think it's very plausible either although keep in mind that's an old novel.
i think the reason it is not on the list is bc scientists went on record and said that even if global warming continued on progressing the way it does that there is no way the sequence of events displayed in the movie could possibly happen. they did say the movie was entertaining but still almost completely bs in terms of scientific possibilities
Agreed. Especially since all most none of them have any real firearm experience (IRL) or training or notes in actual survival skills. Topped with actual backup food supplies, water, ammo, general survival gear, etc.
Eric kyle I have alot of firearm experience, but when it comes to survival, I have a friend who thinks the zombie apocalypse is almost here, and his ENTIRE family has stalked up on years worth of canned food, hundreds and hundreds of water bottles, multiple piles of camping gear and a decent arsenal of rifles and handguns. I'm not even kidding. I think it's all in their garage. They may seem a little paranoid and a little bit on the crazy side, but if it does happen, these are the guys you want to stick with.
***** without human control at nuclear power plants water won't run down the reactor cores, making the cores overheated thus causing huge fallouts. Some powerplants already have automated emergency protocols which stop the core from working above a certain degree but most older power plants dont. This will basically cause world wide Chernobyls.
Prepper Skirra last time i checked in America there was only 2 older ones without control rods since the Chicago pile was decommissioned for reasons you can imagine so we should be fine. Plus givin the amount of security that each reactor has and the scientist that should always be on site will hopefully take responsibility and shut it down safely
The direct impact of Yellowstone is only hard in rather sparse populated areas (Midwest, Rockies). Total loss there immediately. But elsewhere? The volcanic dust is an annoyance, and dangerous if you breath that. But many people survived these things on other volcanoes. The dense popzulated economic hearts of america will never see more than 1cm of ash falling. and the grain belts will also survive that onslaught. The bad thing comes slow and creepy: No 2012 big bang. But a steady cooling for years, leading to a 10 or 20 years of ice-age like conditions. Russia is cold prone, but that king of climate would kill Russia first. Then the remnants of Canada, then the northern half of Europe, then the remnants of the USA. Too cold for crops in all mid-latitudes for 20 years? That is trouble. The southern hakt if USA, Mexico, southern Europe and southern China will survive, the rest will be obliterated by the climate shock, hunger, starvation, wars and poverty. India and Brazil would be the worlds superpowers then,
+Gary Pumpkington Well the dinosaurs didn´t advance and therefore didn´t cause any polution, but what good did it do them? So if we don´t do anything in our power to get more advanced who is going to stop the next meteor? The squirrels? Those little bastards can´t be counted on.
There were a few you missed. "The Quiet Earth", "The Omega Man", "I Am Legend" (though I was REALLY disappointed in the theatrical ending), "Virus", a really good Japanese production from about 1980 with an all star American cast. "On The Beach", "The Day After", "Threads", "Knowing" and as of late, "A Quiet Place".
I like your comment, "why didn't the terminators just poison our atmosphere" I had not given that a thought before but you have a very good point. It was probably due to a scriptwriter, they do not want a movie killing prop, they want a sequel.
waterworld global warming makes more sense that the glaciers melt and there is no land day after tomorrow global warming... everything freezes? lol uhh ok
ravishingelite actually day after tomorrow is more accurate then waterworld in the sense of how global warming would affect the planet. Being a biology and geography major doesn't hurt either. If the polar ice caps do melt completely we would still have a little under 15% of land left on earth but if the jet streams get changed or shut down it can cause a global cooling instead of warming dropping the temperature dramatically but not as dramatic as the Day after Tomorrow made it out to be. It would be over years instead of days
Donte Boyd Pollution sucks, if there is a global change in temperature there is little to no evidence for humans to be the cause, giving government more money and power does not help the environment.
Joseph Marchio Are you suggesting human impact is uncertain? While it's just a correlation, in the past 50 years the temperatures rose more than they did over a much longer span of time (600 or more, I believe). The fact that temperatures do no vary as you'd expect them to since industry became a thing, and especially in the last 50 years (more people, more fossil fuels burned up, albeit more and more methods to mitigate the emissions, more livestock to produce methane, more garbage to produce methane, you get the picture) points to us having an impact. Otherwise variations of temperature are normal, but we should've been in a cooling period, as we are still in an ice age (technically). Also, the melting of the polar caps wouldn't there'd be no more landmasses, that's just absurd. The volume of permanent ice at the poles is not sufficient to cover up all dry land, not by far. But here's a fun experiment in density for you, the one who believes that. Take a glass of water, and put some ice in it too. Mark the level the water in the glass is at with solid ice in it. Wait for it to melt, and mark the new level. Water loses density when becoming a solid, so you should see a slight decrease in height, while you might've been expecting the opposite. Give it a go! Now, I am aware that not all ice at the poles is floating in water, but the chunks of ice that are covering land is all that would affect the volume of water on the planet. And if you go back and look at various ages of the earth you will see that there's always been land, even in the middle of warm periods. It seems to be a 100k cycle of warm-cold.
***** No, its during, its global warming, in this scenario, global warming is still occuring as the earth gets hotter. And not to mention theres smokers on boats attacking people.
lol the paper the guy (waterworld) was holding had Japanese on it and is most likely from an airplane since it said 機内サービスのご案内, which means inflight service guide or information xD and yes, I never watched the movie so I don't know anything about what happened. just wanted to say that :D
Knowing is one of my favorite "end of the world" films because it's actually set up as a thriller/mystery and the "end of the world" thing doesn't come up until the end so it's not totally overwhelming. Very underrated!
Judgment Day is not inevitable it was stopped by Sarah Connor, John and the T-800 when they destroyed all the equipment. "The future is not written, it's what we make for ourselves." There is no other movie after that. Nope.

One thing puzzles me. Why do some disaster/doomsday films take place in New York when nowadays it would be inappropriate?
Because the events that make that inappropriate happened 14 years ago, and while it was a tragedy, it's in the past and most people have already moved on
Did you saw the WTC collapse by Tsunami in the movie?
Inapropriate, i'm not sure it would, or should be.
Yet again another great list
You do realize that the apocalypse and the extinction of mankind are two entirely different concepts, right? We are not only beings on this Earth; Earth would go on just fine without us.
I'm pretty sure Earth would thrive without humans. We are like a virus to the Earth : /
Hence my comment. I'm glad someone else can see my point.
Yeah, the world would be awesome without all of you...
...BAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
KNOWING !!!
They left out 2 of the best. "The Divide" & "These Final Hours".
Melancholia... Also, where is the "grey goo" scenario? :(
2012 shouldve been on there...
Just....no.
Yeah right! And Macaulay Culkin is sober!
I would say Book of Eli, but that's pretty much the same thing as Mad Max 2.
Knowing.. The book of Eli.....and also this movie (2009) that's not well-known called The Road......Knowing is caused by a massive solar flare.....Book of Eli is nuclear I believe...and The Road is something involving Global warming I think.
If you read the book "The Road" I think they mention countries going to nuclear war with each other.
the road is my fav post apocalyptic film of all time iv been looking for 1 that comes close
Lloyd Mahloudji yea I think the road has to be the most realistic & saddening one that I've personally seen.
I'm literally obsessed with apocalypse movies, so this is the perfect video for me haha
#3 The Matrix:- Reason, machines take over the world.
#1 Terminator: Reason, machines take over the world.
Huh?
One was to turn us into batteries, the other was to eradicate what we know as society so remainers could be either exterminated or kept in camps for labour.
Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy! Earth is destroyed by Vogons to make way for a hyperspatial express route five minutes before the conclusion of its 10-million-year program.
They should of had Knowing on there! It sends chills down your spine!
My fav is Deep Impact :p
I LOVE Disaster movies and science fiction movies for some reason ._.
List of my favorite movies:
1.Deep impact
2.San Andreas
3.HTTYD (1,2)
4.Godzilla (Don't judge me)
5.Day after tomorrow
6.Warcraft (Don't judge me)
7.... idk lmfao I only have 6
Don't judge me xD
These aren't from the most fav to the least I like them all equally
Edit: Eh i like deep impact the most xD
Disaster Movie should totally be on this list! It's amazingly funny!
...said absolutely nobody ever.
I was so worried for a second.
5:07 the fact that this is gonna happen soon in real life. lol
Who's here in the covid 19 pandemic in 2020
0:20 btw that man didn't care XD
The robots think it's funny to watch us die
I liked the idea of people killing themselves in "the happening"
Forgot that one! Killed by nature! Even though people hate on that movie, I still get freaked out by it!
In Clifford D. Simak's short novel "Desertion", astronauts transformed into creature capable to survive Jupiter's environment learn that living as these creature gives eternal happiness. The rest of humanity learns about it and everyone decide to turn into Jovian creatures too, resulting in the end on humanity on Earth.
yiyuwazza watched that movie like 5 times and i still love it xD
Kamizushi Akinari That sounds creepy! Also how the fuck can you survive in Jupiters enviroment? It has techncially no ground cause its a gas giant! But still, the reason I said it sounded creepy, is because I imagine the creatures would look like necromorphs for some reason xD vignette3.wikia.nocookie.net/deadspace/images/c/c4/DS2_Necromorphs.jpg/revision/latest?cb=20101212220129
But how do the creatures actually look like?
rdejano3 - Mile & Dejo I don't think it's ever mentionned how it looks looks like although I can't verify for sure since I don't have this book anymore. I remember that Simak insisted it was a very strong creature capable to make huge jumps, etc. I don't know how it survived. I don't think it's very plausible either although keep in mind that's an old novel.
Destroying the Earth to make way for an hyperspace bypass. Executed by the Vogons. Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy.
exactly
my favorite is the coronal mass ejection from Knowing.
my favourite would have to be the apocalypse that was shown in 2012
2012 was a flat out terrible movie.
you may think so, but thats your opinion, but you gotta admit the visual effects were awesome
***** Destruction porn with a terrible story repetitive getaways and again terrible science fiction perspective
meh, its still cool
Hakan Karaağaç hey not cool, the movie's a guilty pleasure
I thought that Day After Tomorrow should have been in the list. Because the way we are acting about the environment,MIT could happen.
It* not MIT. Stupid autocorrect.
i think the reason it is not on the list is bc scientists went on record and said that even if global warming continued on progressing the way it does that there is no way the sequence of events displayed in the movie could possibly happen. they did say the movie was entertaining but still almost completely bs in terms of scientific possibilities
Alex Vargas Then the stupid Waterworld something should have not been on the list as well.
RockyPond101 the Day After Tomorrow is closer to what would happen.
I would prefer a zombie apocalypse because then most of my problems can be shot and theres a chance we can rebuild society
Yeah.. People who say they're gonna survive the zombie apocalypse will survive for about 3 days max.
Perfect! Terminator 2 is the top for me, too. Favorite movie of my youth :)
Where is The Day After?
+Alvarez Cabral I'm not sure if anyone can remember that one ^^
That was the most apocalyptcal realistic movie ever made.
No. Threads.
Neddyfram ™ I agree
Threads was awesome!! Used to be on RUclips, but very hard to find now. Best, best film.
2012 is also a pretty good apocalypse movie (forget the scientific background, just impossible, but look at he pictures)
+Lightningchase1973 a good blockbuster, but not a good apocalypse movie. Personally I laughed through the whole thing
+Lightningchase1973 Maybe not possible, but if Yellowstone goes up then its probably correct...
India and Brazil would be the worlds superpowers then,
I watched the tunnel one.
+Amlan Biswal Because it sucked
0:19...dude is reading his paper...lol
I’ma huge fan of alien invasions, I love sci-fi shows & movies.. anything involving destruction or end of the world I find interesting basically
What about, "Knowing", "I am legend" and "World war Z"? I only agree with deep impact.
Humans really don't deserve to go out in a blaze of glory, just look at what we have done to this planet.
+Gary Pumpkington Well the dinosaurs didn´t advance and therefore didn´t cause any polution, but what good did it do them? So if we don´t do anything in our power to get more advanced who is going to stop the next meteor? The squirrels? Those little bastards can´t be counted on.
I have never trusted the squirrels. They just love nuts too much.
what abt "SKYLINE",
"THE DARKEST HOUR", THE DAY AFTER TOMMOROW"
·
Seeking a friend for the end of the world.
The ending was the first time i've ever cried at a movie.
The Road. The most apocalyptic apocalypse I've ever seen in a movie
The most realistic in terms of "after the event". And also VERY sobering.
You forgot 'Mrs Palin goes to Washington'.
There's a new mad max
Herb Square this video was made in 2013 when they didnt have the movie at the time xD
which was so much better
Herb Square and sadly the new mad max is a load of shit.
Sout Piel its been the best movie of the year so far what's your favorite? Fucking antman?
+Ashley Perez ANTMAN!! Still, Fury Road is one of the best movies this year.
#1. Melancholia. Small planet crashes into the Earth, killing everyone instantly.
Different than the comet one, and much scarier than robots.
(Puts rocket boosters on Pluto)
Johnny Petersen
he said planet.......
***** not since a few years ago.
1toncheese is right, sry for my mistake (puts boosters on Mars)
Johnny Petersen
(helps cos it includes free trip to mars.)
The best apocalypse is in Melancholia from Lars von Trier
I like your comment, "why didn't the terminators just poison our atmosphere" I had not given that a thought before but you have a very good point. It was probably due to a scriptwriter, they do not want a movie killing prop, they want a sequel.
I think your missing one more Apocalypse?
Nuclear War?
anybody?
Yup...
👍👍👍
dam everybody loves nuke scenes from movies
exactly
Navid Haider heh terminator 3 heh
How did the Day after Tomorrow not get the global warming slot??
waterworld global warming makes more sense that the glaciers melt and there is no land
day after tomorrow global warming... everything freezes? lol uhh ok
ravishingelite actually day after tomorrow is more accurate then waterworld in the sense of how global warming would affect the planet.
***** Thank you for clarifying that up for our internet trolling friend
Godzilla will rise, and will bring on the apocalypse.
xD
Godzilla is in fact a good being you know...
TenshiNoAme Unless he's in a bad mood or his body goes into meltdown mode like it did in _Godzilla vs. Destoroyah_.
the Legion was the best apocalypse movie I have ever seen!!!Loved that movie
Also, the machines in The Matrix could have gone for nuclear power. And yes, poison the remaining atmosphere.
2020 so far: coronavirus pandemic and a huge asteroid might hit the pkanet on April...
Not today
Usman Y 2029 not April
It's almost may so nope on the asteroid
Nah
It didn't happen cause it's just passing by the earth safely
"9" is the best apocalypse movie ever XD if you dont know the movie please watch the trailer before you dislike me :3
its after apocalypse
Yeah, that movie is actually really amazing.
Iconic Nebula thank you smartiepants -.- :P
you are right smitteys :D
Steven Bee you saw it too? good :D
***** No, its during, its global warming, in this scenario, global warming is still occuring as the earth gets hotter. And not to mention theres smokers on boats attacking people.
Love that paper! 5:33 Epic!
lol the paper the guy (waterworld) was holding had Japanese on it and is most likely from an airplane since it said 機内サービスのご案内, which means inflight service guide or information xD and yes, I never watched the movie so I don't know anything about what happened. just wanted to say that :D
+Louis Van Gormless Maybe. But still nice Trivia.
The word 'Apocalypse' comes from the ancient Greek for 'Revelation'.
Why wasn't "the knowing" -Nicholas cage- on there?!
Knowing is one of my favorite "end of the world" films because it's actually set up as a thriller/mystery and the "end of the world" thing doesn't come up until the end so it's not totally overwhelming. Very underrated!
barbaro267 I agree with you. This film was one of my favourites too.
The 100 is the best post apocalyptic TV show!!
Giant monsters, like godzilla, king kong, cloverfield and jurassic park (dino's are big and deadly)
Ruben Nouta yeah but you only need nukes to kill them
Judgment Day is not inevitable it was stopped by Sarah Connor, John and the T-800 when they destroyed all the equipment. "The future is not written, it's what we make for ourselves." There is no other movie after that. Nope.
They only delayed it. Otherwise there wouldn't be 4 terminator movies
There is only two movies.
spiderskater3 and this is how you spot a troll
I'm not trolling, the other two movies don't count. Because they SUCK!
spiderskater3
Thats what ya dad said..When he favored twilight over star wars and Lord of the rings.
0:43 wrong 28 weeks later
fredde fjell no sorry its 28 days later i watched it like 5 times
People, People both 28 days later and weeks later are running zombies, ITS THE SAME GOD DAMN VIRUS.
nomnom2002 Yeah but the scene is from 28 weeks later
Oh yeah i know that, the beginning when he leaves his wife and runs to the boat.
nomnom2002 Yeah sad too
Woah, woah, woah, The Zombie Apocalypse Is outright #1 Movie Apocalypse
Time-travelling Borg assimillate Earth before we become a spacefaring race, as seen in Star Trek: First Contact.
Nice! Dam thats a good one!
I like the movie the day after tomorrow
