Jerry Garcia would have turned 70 on Aug. 1, and to mark the occasion, two days after his birthday members of the Grateful Dead family are throwing an online musical party that will be a live free webcast in HD from bandmate Bob Weir's TRI Studios in San Rafael.
Actor Luke Wilson ("The Royal Tannenbaums," "Old School," "Bottle Rocket") has signed on to emcee the show, billed as "Move Me Brightly," after a line in the Garcia/Robert Hunter song "Terrapin Station."
Carlos Santana will honor his fellow guitar great via a video interview. David Crosby's poetic tribute, "Cause I'm Missing Him Tonight," written specifically for his old friend, will be read during the show. Garcia's daughters, his brother, Tiff and ex-wife Carolyn "Mountain Girl" Garcia will be on hand, as will the world's tallest Deadhead, Bill Walton.
Weir heads a growing lineup of musicians who will perform, including Willie Nelson's son Lukas Nelson, Joe Russo and Jeff Chimenti from Furthur, Mike Gordon of Phish, Paul Simon's son Harper Simon, psychedelic folk musician Jonathan Wilson and Bay Area singer-songwriter Cass McCombs.
"The Jerry magic is still there," said producer Justin Kreutzmann, 43-year-old son of Grateful Dead drummer Bill Kreutzmann. "All these cool people wanted to be involved, but not by reaching for the hanky and talking about the old days. Everything with Jerry was about humor and great music, so we're trying to do this in a way that would make him chuckle."
Thats why I got off the couch and bought a guitar..... Music Will take you down the road. Since 1975 , I've been following the 🎵🎶🎵... thanks Again "For a Real Good Time!!"
Went to almost 300 shows. Got to do Europe in fall of 1990. Rode in the same compartment as the Bear from Kobenhaven to Amersfoort. Didn't see the same show twice. Don't regret a cent I spent. Thanks to all!
this makes me smile

True words brother Bob. True words. (~)8-#
You did a GREAT job on this stuff and the show itself was a fun listen. I said it on one of other clips I am a traditionalist as far as the love of Jerrys songs, that said everyone did a very good job on this. long live the man who brought so many smiles to so many faces over the years,
brilliant mind
3:15 bob's stare stoped my heart for a second...no lie. Same thing happened the few times we made eye contact at Furthur and the WRGacoustictrio shows i saw....you are a mystic entity, Bob. Thanks for everything
CAN'T WAIT!!!!
Go Bobby! Way to honor Jerry.
I look forward to it!
Should be a lot of fun, can't wait
Lovely!
TRI stream was a little spotty for me, i jumped on the yahoo link and the show was straight fire! Thanks TRI for the great show last night
thanks for sharing bobby!!!
SWEET !
An excellent video and a fabulous tribute ! Congrats !!
Yeah; he's laid back, but intense, hey?
He's an often underrated guitarist too, I think. There are many moments that I'm continuing to discover in the archival Dead releases where Weir does some really nice licks, as well as his sneaky strokes. Bless.
I Saw The Movie Great !! Hope Its On DVD.
if it was choppy it was on your end, picture and audio were crystal clear for me. high speed connection through a macbook pro onto 52" plasma. shit was hot!! never had any trouble with reception at all.
Here's a few more----Eyes of the World, Shakedown Street, They Love Each Other, U.S. Blues, New Speedway Boogie, Mississippi Half-Step.
(Not in this order)---Cumberland Blues, Loser, Scarlet Begonias, Terrapin Station, Dupree's Diamond Blues, Dire Wolf, Black Peter, The Wheel, Ripple, Tennessee Jed, Ramble on Rose, Friend of The Devil, Don't Let Go, Catfish John, Loose Lucy.....and more, but frankly I'm lucky I can remember those songs listed.
Help me out if you can recall any I've left out.
It was a helluva set, though, wasn't it?
Jerry Still Lives through his music.
Help me out if I forgotten any
I had problems too. Stopping and loading and starting and stopping and loading and so on....
Is there a place where I can find this performance? Was working yesterday!!
:)
You missed a great show...Open your mind...
This is nothing at all what it used to be when Jerry was alive. What Bobby is describing is what used to happen in the past but it does not happen today. I heard some younger people talking about one of the the incarnations (dead and Company) after Jerry are better than when Jerry was alive and now even Bobby is saying it in so many words. The energy now is basically lifeless it's low energy and Bobby makes sure to keep everybody in place as he did with Trey by giving him looks to shut him down. There will be no one outshining Bobby because he won't allow it but you can bet if they do they'll be out on their butt in a millisecond. It's hard to watch but even harder to listen to.
It sounds like some people need their internet connection upgraded....
2:36 hey it's Neal Cassady.
ever vigilant, ever observant... Cowboy Neal, I mean, over there on the wall
This is cool but please don't turn Jerry into a corporate product like Hendrix....
You mean you don't want to buy some Jerry Garcia hand sanitizer?
