As a deaf blind person, the fact we represented the touch shirts for people who are deaf so they can feel included, and what a game to introduce them to. Don’t see your Manchester United doing anything like that, that’s what makes our club massive.
Just finished watching, My Favourite is watching the growth of the ground.. Certainly the location cannot be beat. Shearers Testimonial was something i'll never witness again for an atmosphere. 3 hours of pure roar! Sadly that makes match days a bit meh! LOL But if i had arms long enough, I'd hug the stadium every time i pass it.. Not sure I'd be able to let go. So What's the best? My hearts attached to it.. I'm simply in love with it.
If you forget the stadium, Newcastle is THE party town in the U.K. I was in Newcastle last night for my belated birthday party. Suffice to say, I drank too much as per 😂
The jewel in the crown of a fantastic city with the kindest hearted people I’ve ever known St Mirren fan but love Newcastle United and the City especially the West End folks
I can remember when you could still take your unfinished brown ale bottle into the ground and quite often if you were stood in the Leazes end you had to cover your head from the dropping glass fragments as the empties were hurled high into the roof girders!!
i remember the old Stands in the 60's with the peanut guy walking around pedaling his wares. dads would set their kids on the wall. Copper would come along to have tell the dad to take the kid off of the wall.😆.As soon as he passed the kid would be put right back on the wall again (I was 7) or being in the Gallowgate with a friend when a ball came screaming over the bar during the pregame warmup. Hit my friend in the head and knocked him down, an old bloke next to us says if that was ten yrs again that ball would have knocked him oot! 😆
Hi eddy I remember the day Keegan arrived, What a day,, I was outside the Gallowgate end, Getting crushed, I was 12, Standing in the gallowgate with my burger and someone Swiped it out my hands lol, Never did I see that burger again,, Memories My best game Newcastle 5-0 win over man utd, what a night, Thanks for the great memories eddy, Enjoy your Sunday lunch mate, wherever you and Helen end up 👍
Location is the number one for me, everything else comes from that location, it has such a deep connection with the heart of the city and the people not just of Newcastle but the North East as a region, all the transport links that have been developed to move people in and out of the city enhance the location as it would be very difficult to recreate that network in a different location.
Hey Eddie. Thanks again mate. I have a selfish reason i love St James. I was there with my Grandfather against Barcelona and he’d really worked hard to get us all there. We won and we all had a photo together in our shirts. It was the last time I saw him and that place was more important to him than I can ever fathom. He passed away that evening and he was happy. It really is a cathedral and I know there are thousand of similar stories. You cannot copy the Mona Lisa and it have the same magic. It’s great, decent people like you and Lisa that are why I love St James. No need for comment mate 😇
He ran a hotel for disabled lads. Harry Crawford. He always left his door open to help anyone. That’s Newcastle. Trust. But - if I dared to put ketchup on my dinner he would be really angry. That’s what St james means. It’s where we are all Equal. That’s it - that’s the magic
As a born & bred Londoner as well as Spurs fan. Apologies for that last bit! 🤣 I’ve always considered SJP as my favourite away ground & always enjoy my visits to not just your club but also the city centre which I always find vibrant & I love the walk from there to Quayside. Beautiful evening strolls.
For me it’s the atmosphere. The people make the atmosphere. I’m bias, but Geordies bring the best energy and passion. My main reservation going forward is passionate fans being priced out of a new stadium and a higher proportion of corporate seats. We really benefit from home advantage and we all luv the buzz around the ground and the city on match day.
@@TynesideLife not even a total rebuild at SJP Eddie? Not sure where we’d play our matches while it was built but our ownership will want a world class stadium for their club at some point in future.
@@CmcC84 I share your view on a rebuild and I discuss this vision at the end of video 7. We’re talking about expansion as it’s been widely reported that the owners are going for an expansion as the feasibility study is complete 👍🏻
The Cathedral on the hill, one of the most iconic stadiums on the planet, but I’m old enough to remember how horrific it was in the late 70s up until the 90s, when Hall and Shepherd, started the redevelopment. The Gallowgate end toilets, my God, for anyone too young to have experienced them at that time were horrific!
Remember the Gallowgate well. My first game was 86. The Leazes End had been down 8 years by then (and would remain so for a further 7). I had to ask my dad why there was (basically) nowt at one end of the ground. He had to describe what it once was-and that it used to be the heart of the ground. Nothing quite said: 'club in decline' like the Leazes between 78 and 93. Imagine Anfield being without The Kop for 15 years!
I remember it well queuing on the stairs, and them being used as a toilet..the best thing was fighting up in to the corner of the gallowgate for the burgers..
I was in SJP in October 2022 where we beat Everton 1-0. Back then, Anthony Gordon was still a Toffee player. I can still remember how Trips was showing AG who is boss! Haha! Everytime AG touched the ball, he was booed! Times changed and now AG is our player! The atmosphere was superb. The energy was great. The people of Newcastle are fantastic. My only regret was that I spent too little days in Newcastle and too many in London! I will want to revisit Newcastle again after the stadium expansion. I am sure, by then, I will get even better experience than I did.
It may not be a city, but Ipswich is a town centre stadium within sight of the train station and pubs nearby. It also has a pleasing statue of Sir Bobby! New for next season in the Premier League! It's coming up!
I remember the old blue & white hot dog van, that was a converted Mini, must have been the smallest food van ever, westlers burgers and onion’s,a must on match days ! It hasn’t been a happy hunting ground for success sadly,a lot of happy memories, some iconic moments & lots of disappointment, the life of a Newcastle United supporter! Maybe this time they’ll get it right! We’d still turn up if they played on a field !
Hello my friend The thing I would like to draw your attention to is what is happening with the new Real Madrid stadium, where they hold concerts until late The neighbors are complaining about the noise, and in the coming seasons, the club may face a lawsuit. Let us wait and see I am neither for nor against, but all points of view must be taken into account when building or renovating the stadium Thank you saudi geordi
I like how we not only make it hard for teams to come play here but also the away fans, given them a nice staircase mountain stroll up to the heavens to tuck em away at the top corner.. haha
Great podcast Eddie 👏👏👏 be great to hear your views on what kind of studium we’ll have in 5 years time ( not where it will be ) Populous architects seem to be our partners and they’ve done some unreliable stadiums.
Cheers Martin. I can safely say we’ll be at St James’ Park for the future and it’s likely we’ll have an expanded Gallowgate and a possible rebuilding of the East Stand. A total capacity of around 60K or just over 👍🏻
People mentioning the gallowgate bogs , a lot of people just pissed where they were standing ,it wasn’t unusual to get a warm leg from someone behind 🤣
things i hate about it 1: the outside is a classic football look but it's beyond outdated, the glass needs a clean or replacement too. The Milburn stand entrance would be amazing if sela made a NYCFC style "cube" entrance to it. 2: the facilities like toilets are horrible and again with being outdated, similar with the executive boxes (1st world problem). 3: The steps to get up to L7 are brutal. 4: The screen needs updating, it's tiny and it's only visible for a quarter of the stadium if that. 5: i know it cant be helped but the east stand not being level with the rest. It adds for a somewhat unique stadium but costing the club millions a year when the demand is there (matchday income is very small compared to the top 20 clubs), and sucks out L7s noise. The stadium would be considerably louder for everyone if there was a level 7 stand all the way around, on top of the extra thousands of fans going.
