A thoroughly nice bloke and one of the most underrated Premier League goalkeepers. Rarely talked about but a fantastic shot stopper and very consistent wherever he was.
Definitely Underrated! I’d also say he’s better than Seaman as Seaman always had a better defence and Nige’s stats are similar to Seaman’s. Also if you add the clean sheets when Martyn was playing in the first division before it was the Premier League, he’d be second in clean sheets ever in the PL only behind Cech and he never had Chelsea’s Mourinho defence to help him.
@@rickymurray Seaman kept on playing way past his prime when he didn't need to because there was Nigel Martyn. And I'll never forget when Ian Walker played ahead of him!
As a Leeds fan I still can’t believe two managers put Nigel on the bench and didn’t play him, for me he’s the best keeper Leeds have ever had, plus one of the nicest guys I’ve met
Only at Everton for a few years but our fans rate him as our best keeper since Neville Southall and for his age as well, just an all around world class goalkeeper...
Was a top keeper. Southall was the best IMO. I'm a United fan and when we played Everton when I started going to the match regular mid-late 80's we always used to say we'd need 5 clear cut chances v Nev to score one. And he took the abuse about his missus like a champion, his reactions were hilarious. But Martyn was a top class keeper. better than all we had post Schmeichel and pre VDS. Doesnt get the respect he deserves as he was a mint keeper.
I met nigle in white rose shopping centre in Leeds when I was 8 years old . He was an amazing person had lots of time for everyone my favourite keeper ever
Love this. Newcastle fan, but always loved Nigel Martyn. Great interview from the lads just letting him speak and asking the right questions at the right time. Class lads 🫡💪
As a Leeds fan since the late 70's Nigel is the best keeper we have had in that time IMO . What I would give for him to be their now as a 25 year old .
Big Nige' aka "Blazey" is probably the nicest guy I've met following Palace in my 40 odd years of supporting them. England were well stocked with decent keepers in the early/mid 90's, and he should have secured many more caps than he did. Looking forward to the listen.
United fan here, whenever the convo of a underrrated eleven comes up over a beer I always say Nigel Martyn, the memory plays tricks but i swear he did those clawed saves (like seaman did against sheff Utd) quite regularly, i always associated him with those anyway, great keeper and seems like an absolutely lovely bloke here. Thats a great guest to him on, glad go see my patreon money going into the pot for it.
Really enjoyed that one 👏 he’s rated in the best ever Leeds 11, 10 of which were from the Revie era which gives you an indication of how well thought of he was at Leeds top professional 👏
What a great interview with a great guy. Big Nige was my goalkeeping hero. I still have a couple of his Everton and England shirts and Nike boots in my collection.
90s prem keepers were all iconic, srnicek(?) , Schmeicel, Miklosko, Flowers, Seaman, Martyn, Lukic. Pressman, Southall! Maybe just because thats when I got into football but i loved nearly all the keepers 😂
:) They did. Some amazing keeper kits in the 90s. As a Wednesday fan, I always loved Pressman and some our our keeper kits, but also loved the Newcastle keeper kit with Newcastle Brown Ale sponsor. What a time.
Loved Nigel Martyn at Leeds. Best keeper weve ever had imo. I know older fans saw Gary Sprake week in week out but hes most famous for some infamous mistakes. Spot on Galatasaray should never played that night disgraceful
this podcast really showcases how Parky is as a person; kind, but sentiments of bitterness and volatility after 20 years of a roller-coaster life. Nigel, same wife, good career, a pint and a bit of food. No dramas. they're so different.
Great show lads. Nige is footballing royalty to me, such an understated man for such a brilliant player. Best Goalie Leeds have ever had and will have some time.
Southampton was the other team Oldham beat alongside Villa and Liverpool. All within a week. 'The Great Escape'. Probably the most spectacular survival when looking done
Great show Chaps - Nigel a legend at the Gas, used to chant Englands No 1 at every match 1988/1989. Thanks to the Tea lady for keeping on at Gerry Francis !
He was meant to sign for Everton before he went to Leeds but Peter Johnson messed him about the arsehole. Only at us for a few years towards the end of his career but still Second only to Neville Southall as the best Everton keeper I have seen
Great guest who rarely does interviews. I don’t know if time was tight, but he was interrupted a good few times, especially when talking about transfers.
What top guy. By the way you could make a long compilation of David Seaman letting in goals from shots outside the area in big games. He was past his best in 2002, although he did pull of a worldly against Sheff United in the cup sem8
A thoroughly nice bloke and one of the most underrated Premier League goalkeepers. Rarely talked about but a fantastic shot stopper and very consistent wherever he was.
I thought Nigel and Tim Flowers were better than seaman
Definitely Underrated! I’d also say he’s better than Seaman as Seaman always had a better defence and Nige’s stats are similar to Seaman’s. totally agree. better than Pickford or the others who have been there

Nigel looks better now than he did when he played! Loved him at Leeds, great bloke and great keeper.

Best Leeds keeper ever - top bloke. MoT

What a bloke, loved him at Leeds ❤
Excited to see Nigel Martyn. Great guest guys. Thanks again for another great episode.
As a Leeds fan since the late 70's Nigel is the best keeper we have had in that time IMO . What I would give for him to be their now as a 25 year old .
What a great guy. Leeds United legend, voted our best keeper ever.
Palace legend. That palace team of the late 80s/90s was great. So many players I love from that time. Nigel was such a huge part.
Legitimately one of, if not the best keeper ever to play in the English leagues. That Leeds keeper top sends me back. ❤ looking forward to this
Looks fucking incredible for 58! What a keeper, those Leeds days were peak childhood for me 🧤

We’d never have gone down in 2004 if he was still in goal. As good as Robinson was - Martyn was the best Leeds keeper I ever saw.
Yeah. I think he would have made the difference.
Robinson had a nightmare that season. We wouldn't have got beat 6-1 at Portsmouth games like that with Nige in goal
Absolute Leeds United legend 💛
18 minutes in and he hasn’t swore once. What a polite man.
1hr13m in and he still hasn't.
1hr 22 51 secs is his first swear word
Literally says “what the fuck are you doing “ at 20 mins looool
What a fella, still loved by all Gasheads.

Great Everton goalie,,never let us down,2 years on the run our player of the year
Havnt started yet but nigel was my idol as a child. Leeds fan from birth always played in net
Best keeper we had at Everton behind the great Southall, was only at Everton for a few years towards the end of his career but what a keeper he was.
great goal keeper for Everton,, They miss him even today class act
Nigel was fantastic for us at Everton, we still rate him very highly, what a gent, glad to see he's doing well in retirement
That was brilliant! What a nice down to earth bloke he seems 👌

Great keeper. My favourite. Tops Lukic
Big Nige, what a player, would have been Englands No.1 but he was around at the same time as Chris Woods and David Seaman.
an absolute legend my all time favourite Leeds keeper, and a genuinely nice fella
Top top goalkeeper from a long gone era when football was enjoyable.
Excellent keeper.......
Met him at Headingley Cricket ground. Fantastic man. Very generous with his time. MOT
Brilliant episode and great to see and hear from Nigel. Loved him at Palace and certainly my favourite ever keeper.
Nige is my favourite ever Leeds keeper, what an absolute gentleman. Leeds United and Premier League legend. Superb episode.

I like it when little chris starts talking about billy whitehurst and getting all excited then talking how hard he was. 😆
Brilliant goalkeeper and criminally underrated.
One of the best pods . NM -What a very uncomplicated and very likeable bloke 😄
Leeds legend was my favourite as a boy
What a bloke, amazing keeper and an allround good egg.

Best keeper I've ever seen at Palace. Love Big Nige
He comes over a such a nice bloke. I always remember him as a proper goalkeeper, excellent technique a lot like Ray Clemence.

Nigel should have been the number 1 from 2000. Seaman was living off reputation for years.
Bit boring ? The guy's just a bit beige, he's no Andy Johnson
Enjoyed listening to Nigel martyn nice guy to listen to.
Neil Sullivan could be good one to get on as a guest
Big nige love him . That team should of won silverware
Need to try and find David batty, get him on, am sure he'll have a good few stories to tell😂😂
