EWF is the greatest band ever! They wrote and composed all of their songs, impeccable singers, played all the instruments, gave a stellar live concert performance, and produced hits for The Emotions, Denice Williams, Barbara Streisand, Nile Diamond, and Jennifer Holiday.
Maurice White, the leader of EWF produced the artists you mentioned.

I'm a huge Ewf since the release of Last Days and Time. But, they wrote most of their songs, definitely not all and many of them in collaboration with the likes of David Foster, Allee Willis, Charles Stepney and Brenda Russell.
Notable hit songs of theirs they didn't write : After The Love is Gone , Boogie Wonderland and of course the Beatles remake "Got to get you into my life "
However, that doesn't take away the fact they are easily the greatest band of all time.
The MIGHTIEST ELEMENTS of the universe! Earth, Wind, and Fire!! THE GOAT of bands case closed. Just got to see them perform again here in Hawaii on Dec 10...unbelievable! My 6th concert since 1979 and their sound and impact even with our young people is amazing! This group brings more diversity, harmony, and LOVE at their concerts! IMUA EWF!!

A 45 year time transport vessel to a ethereal world of promise and wonder . A Pioneer analog amp coupled with 3 way acoustic speakers and a pair of 4 ways with 15 inch woofers listened to with 20 year old virgin ears. My computer with tiny satellite speakers and digital output cannot replicated the magical experience of that age, but my memory still can. With everything gained something is lost.
Sometimes we lose more than what we gain with technology.

I wore this album OUT....like I did with all of their albums from the late 60s - late 70s!!! There was a music store near my house and I would literally RUN to the store get their albums when they came out!!! I fortunate enough to see them in concert twice in the 70s!!! And yes, they played their own instruments!!! Their songs just take you to another realm!!!
Maurice White, the heart and soul of the group, was a master drummer/percussionist....I loved it when he would play the kalimba at their concerts!!! His brother Fred played the drumset and his other brother, Verdine, played the bass!!! One concert I went to, Maurice just sat on the edge of the stage and let his thumbs do the talking/singing on his electric Kalimba!!!
If you listen to the song "Reasons," pleeease listen to the live version from the "Gratitude" album....the interplay between Phillip Bailey and the sax player near the end is INCREDIBLE!!!

New sub here......THANK YOU for your respect for the continuity of hearing each piece in total before giving your opinion! So frustrating when posters stop multiple times during a song, they end up missing the impact that only continuity can bring.
I got to see these guys twice back in the day and what a mind-blowingly great band. Just fantastic. And they're bandleader Murray is just the perfect person for the job. You should absolutely check out something a little earlier, a bit more raw in production values but one hit from that era is called Serpentine Fire. Another one with this similar kind of feel to Fantasy although in my view a decidedly better song, is Fifth of November. This was a massive hit at the time and it's just so good.
They also had a wonderful visual appearance as well with a heavy focus on African themes and colors in the apparel.
