Dear Mr. Joe Stanton,Thank you for your inquiry. 1. About the heatIt is normal for the heat to expand. 2. About the lidThe lid may get loose after prolonged use.In that case, put small amount of oil to cotton applicator, and clean around the O ring. (O ring is on the top of the lighter)
Konichiva. Thank you for the video. I ve been looking for the answer to "how long the fuel lasts on Neo I and Neo II" when your use it daily and when leave it aside for awhile and dont use it. Since they both and Field S have the screw top with o-ring I think their performance should be similar(of course field S has bigger capacity) Do you (does anyone) have anything to say about that. Thanks you in advance
On my Field S the ignition lever is loose and rotates left/right. It dose not stay straight. I saw a screw above the ingition wheel connecting it's bracket to the ignition lever. How do I remove the wheel to tighten that screw? Or is the problem elsewhere?
If the lid doesn't close how do you change the setting on the ballbearing ring? I have read that somebody did it but didn't specifically elaborate about it. I'm afraid that I will brake it. Is it a clockwise or counter thread? What instruments are suggested to use. Looks very tight to me. Thanks for anybodies advice!
Meanwhile I found out something! The users manual says that you just have to oil the lid ring, but never mentiones what to use. I tried some oils (coocking oil, WD 40 etc.) I found out that the best is to use oils which are used in air-cooled engines. My friend has a Harley. I dipped a piece of cotton swab into it, put it on the ring carefully, so that the sparkstone doesn't recieve any, waited a day, dipped it again! Never had that problem since! It doesent matter how hot it gets, it closes. One more thing! I didn't just swab the ring but I rotated the ring around its place, on the metal.
Tokyo Pipe Co....I need a maintenance kit(o rings & wick) for the Douglass Field L...I attempted emailing you directly but I'm not sure it ever went through.
Dear Mr./Ms. clubbnbabyseales,Thank you for your inquiry. We are not directly selling and doing customers service to overseas. We ask you to purchase from other seller by Internet. We ask for your kind understanding.
Yes and if there is no wick left you can just replace it with a zippo wick such as this www.paracord.ee/660-thickbox_default/zippo-wick.jpg they are very cheap or any other wicks oil lighters are very easy to maintain you can look at a vid how to maintain a zippo the principle is the same.
WORST experience ever with a manufacturer so far. My Douglas Field S came defective from the factory. The lid wouldn't stay close and always popped open. That was an issue with a tiny ball bearing securing the cap. After several tries, All I had as a response from the seller was that the lighter was just fine and the problem was with me. Horrible customer service to say the least. Mine sits in a drawer, useles, after two monts of light use. I cannot say anything positive about this brand as I found myself talking with a person who didn't not want to take ANY responsibilities for a defective item. On my side, I paid with real non defective money and just received a piece of garbage . Thank you , but, no thanks.....
Yeah. Same experience. Although our worked well untill week ago. Flint wheel just don't catch anymore. It is not even 1 y since we bought it. No warranty also. :/
Wonderful product, beautiful design. I own the Douglass Field L, such an amazing work of craftmanship.
Can I purchase the disassemble tool to take apart lighter to clean it?
Great lighter!! Question though: is it normal for the heat to expand and not have lid close as tight after prolonged use?

Are the Douglass Field L lighters, and the Douglass Neo 3 lighters waterproof and windproof?
No, just the Douglass S.
I have a question the 3 tools for the field s where can I find them?
