The reason these pushups probably helped the most is because it works the serratus. Often called the boxers muscle, it looks like shark gills above the obliques. It specifically is designed to rotate your shoulder blade so your arm can explode forward. You can feel the difference if you try to throw a punch with your shoulder blade locked down vs moving unrestricted.

@@Jonnyspostsspeed plays a role in that the force of a punch is calculated by multiplying the mass (of the fist) with the acceleration:
      F = M x a
you and your fist have a quite stable mass, the only enhancement to be done is in technique to enhance acceleration:
eventually you realise that the whip effect is the greatest acceleration method we have at our disposal in therms of techniques/mode networks we can 'apply' to our bio mechanics.
whip a fist, don't throw it.
as a bonus whip effects can be cut in length of wave, so one can actually create high accelerations in small spaces at high speeds, since he sets the rigidity/fluidity of the whip.
      become the whip.
in eastern philosphies they explain that whip actions should be generated in the manipura chakra/middle dantian. i imagine they figured this from practice and perhaps through the observance of snakes and their whip like capabilities.

Explosive short range power does come from how you train your muscle elasticity.
If you train slow extended movements your arms will basically keep that retention.
Hit a bag fast and hard, step in with rotation, good.
But if your workouts are to apply quick motor movements with weights or body weight will directly effect your power.
Probably healthy to keep in mind, you don't need to hit with full power to mess someone up. In fact you increase the chance of breaking a bone in your hands.
You can do a lot of damage at like, 30% power, save your hands, and stamina.
Lighting someone up with a lot of quick semi powerful strikes, will keep someone off balance. Also throw bows, knees, kicks to the inside of the knees. Jabs blind for the dominant hand to land.
That's what I learned. I never aim to knockout, rarely happens. I want to discourage them from retaliation.

Hmm. That’s not what I did at all.
My parents refused to buy me any kind of training equipment when I was younger, so I had to improvise. I could do any kind of pushup back then without issue, but that’s not what I used to develop a hard punch.
Since I didn’t have a heavy bag, I used the Black Walnut tree that was on the other side of our driveway instead. After living at that house for a little over seven years, a worn-out semicircle about 10” high wrapped halfway around the walnut tree, with no raised bark left, just a smoothed-out grayish area with shades of intermittent rusty pink.
And yes, it worked. It also got my parents called into school because of the conditions of my hands, with them being so busted up, bruised and bloody, with chunks of skin missing, and sometimes my knuckles even still bleeding. It’s not like I was out there every day doing this; I had to give my hands time to heal. But, as soon as the bruises were gone, and I had time to train on my tree, I was back out there. Even in the dead of winter, below freezing temperatures, in the snow. That was actually my favorite, and most enjoyable time training on that walnut tree.

That's one of three key exercises I train athletes with, in order to develop explosiveness. Ideally, you should, about half the time, first pre-fatigue with weight resistance, and after the final set, immediately start the explosivene push-ups. I do something like this but on bench with different weights in my hands at the end of my set I’d throw the last 10 like I would a straight jab with 20pds in my hands, after a month of that my punches felt like my arms were weightless, I gained fast twitch muscle fibers and started hitting like a truck. When you throw the punch, for maximum effectiveness, it has to be coming from the balls of your feet, moving up to your twisting waist where it starts to transfer the power,, continuing to your shoulder where it continues to torque as it turns and snaps at impact. That is, simply put, the mechanics of a good, powerful punch. ✌️ 🔥

Another fight tip from a little dude thrown into gladiator camp...
Swing and don't stop. If you connect, don't stop. If they connect, don't stop. As bad as what I am about to say sounds, sometimes the difference between a really bad loss and a win is your gameness. Your willingness to take and receive punishment. If you give up for even a second, it could be life alteringly bad. Also, bite, headbutt, kick, grab, twist, pull on anything that gets near some part of you that can hurt them. The name of the game is inflicting as much pain as possible in as fast a time as possible. Don't square up. Don't face off. Be absolutely willing to go from silent to menace without uttering a syllable. And remember kids. The people laughing with you today are the ones most likely to be trying to kill you tomorrow.
It sounds like dork fantasy stuff when you aren't from these kinds of places. But when you have people near you who don't know if they will get the privilege of being full that day, you sort of have to be on your toes because you might be holding what they think is the key to literally more food. To this day, I am on a hair trigger. I don't really get mad easily. I get very scared, very quickly. Any time someone approaches me aggressively, I assume I am in danger and need to do whatever is asked to survive that danger. Running is, in fact, option A for me every single time. Fighting until my heart gives out is my last resort. Fighting until your heart gives out is my preference. Never having to deal with crazy ass people ever again would be nirvana.
