Absolutely a stunning and powerful and emotional version of this song !!!!!!!!!! I listen to it over and over, feeling every emotion that she adds with her voice !! WOW!!!
I cannot stop repeating this song. Stephanie J Block ABSOLUTELY has 1 of the most GORGEOUS voices in the musical theater world. And the emotional intensity with which she delivers this song is INCREDIBLE!!!!. I'm a true fan.
What an amazing performance!!! I stumbled upon this version a few years ago looking for the Chris Thompson cover that they used in the movie The Champ. I had never heard of Stephanie J. Block before. I told my wife the woman is amazing and will be a star. I am happy that she found redemption and won the TONY award for best actress in the musical (2019) about Cher. Considering, that she was originally selected as the lead role in the Broadway production of Wicked only to be replaced by Idina Menzel at the last second; Stephanie J. Block deserves everything she has accomplished. She has an amazing voice and sings with incredible emotion.
There is also a hard-to-find version by Michael MacDonald which is also very beautiful. BTW- Do you know who wrote this song? I can't seem to find a clear answer. Barry Manilow?
@JamesBradley7 This song was originally written by Marvin Hamlish for the film, "The Champ" but was used in the touring company of "TPOS". When it is used in TPOS, it does replace "I Still Believe in Love". Both are great Hamlish pieces.
I cannot thank you enough for posting this. It has been thinking about it on and off since October, and no other version of the song was satisfying enough to fill the void. THANK YOU!
MY FAV PLAY OF ALL TIME , I SAW IT AT THE EMPERIAL THEATER WITH THE ORIG STARS ROBERT KLIEN AND LUCY ARNEZ ALTHO AS MANY TIMES AS I HAVE SEEN IT AND I HAVE THE ALBUM I DON'T REMEMBER THIS SONG FROM THE PLAY ...
This is the theme song from the 1979 film "The Champ." I don't believe it was originally in "They're Playing Our Song." It was written by Carol Bayer Sager and Marvin Hamlisch. , so it could have been added to later productions.
@Elphaba88 It's from a production of THEY'RE PLAYING OUR SONG that a theatre company in Los Angeles put on last October. There is not a cast album of this production.

She is one of the best ballad singers ever for my taste....in the footsteps of Judy...Barbra....
