- Stephanie J. Block, who recently starred as Reno Sweeney in "Anything Goes" on Broadway, joins Seth in studio for a chat. Their discussion about her "pretentious" middle initial segues into her latest Broadway endeavor playing the title role in "The Mystery of Edwin Drood." Then the sparks fly! New to the "Drood" score, Block insists that her high belt note in "The Writing on the Wall" is a G, while know-it-all Rudetsky insists it's an E. The heated battle results in Seth literally hitting the floor and Block tapping out a medley of her "Pirate Queen," "Anything Goes" and "Wicked" hits.

O.M.G. I and no doubt many others have been enjoying Seth's interviews insights and sharing his vast musical theatre knowledge with everyone on all of these posts.... HOWEVER, this interview is f*&^%ng hilarious!! Block is a solid and talented belter/legit sop who has been out there for many moons and clearly has a wicked sense of timing and humor. HAHA...." What is wrong with us??" THe E was awesome and her styles and approaches are spot on . A very enjoyable interview!!!

You're right. E6's not a whistle tone, and it's definitely a head-voice placement. =)
Such a hard note to hit, though... (It's the ending note in Phantom of the Opera -- the song -- so it's ridiculously high. I can only manage it once in a while, and only if I'm really warmed up.)

This pretty much solidified the fact that Stephanie J. Block is EASILY in the top 5 of my favorite performers/people ever.
Love love love to hear Stephanie sing, but I'd love even more to just hear her read a book of poetry or something of the sort. She has one of the most amazing speaking voices I've ever heard.

I'm an amateur sopranist (someone who imitates sopranos even though they themselves are not) and my voice is rearranging itself, (mixing itself with my belt, adding pianissimo and all that), and I haven't hit anything like an E6 for longer than a second in a horridly long time.

Andrew Shearin The OG singer had done a G on this song before which she specified in an interview. Stephanie said "when she takes it full up it's a G" which it is.
