it was actually meant to be "10 long years'' instead of 12 in there are other ways but Jorge made a mistake and noticed it after the saga had already been published. "It's been so long since I've seen my family - ten years at Troy, and two more sailing home." "Captain, it's been two weeks since we left Troy." *"what"*
Very cute fun fact: After they met when recording these songs Jorge and Talya (Circe) actually started dating and are still together today. So in a way, Circe managed to persuade Odysseus
@thehoodgamesdr8446 I think having the kid was added in other tellings, but yes, he did stay in the original poem. I think another epic was written much later which invented a son of Odysseus and Circe and followed a conflict involving him.
Ahh what reaction! So I just want to add on why I made one of the pigs a piglet. Its due to the little nymph girl was, well, to small to carry a adult pig and I just thought it would look cute if she hold a piglet instead! 😆 Then a commenter asked me if the piglet was Elpenor cuz canonically in the og story he was the youngest of Odysseus' crew. So I adopted that idea, so lore wise that is Elpenor
Heyyyy! Thank you so very much for your comment, I will absolutely incorporate the Elpenor thing into my headcanon now 😆 I’ve so very much loved your animatics so far and I truly can’t wait to see what you come up with try next!!!
@@officialmortius You should listen to the epenor song and watch the animation that someone made for it and put that in the underworld saga reaction if thats not to late, its a cut verse from one of the songs in it
The Odyssey calls her goddess (thea) and same with Latin poets (dea). The island is her place of power. That's why Hermes can cheat, but he couldn't help Odysseus by forcing Circe to give back his men.
@Thatonebluewitch different myths have different origins, but I belive the majority have circe as the daughter of Helios and the sea nymph Perse, who was a daughter of the old sea god before posidon.
Quick thing - it's a chimera Circe summons, not a manticore. Manticore is human face, lion body, tail with some form of sting, usually a scorpion. And when Circe says "I have been in love once before", that was with Glaucus, but he loved another nymph and asked Circe to make him a love potion. In a fit of jealousy Circe cursed the nymph and transformed her into a monster. The nymph in question - Scylla.
Oh wow, is that how that myth goes? Circe is so nasty when jealous, lol. If the douche asked for a love potion Scylla probably didn't like him so he kinda deserved it.... Scylla didn't deserve none of it of course, but then again this is *Greek mythology,* women never get a break here anyway 😅
Wait I thought the lover that she was talking about was Hermes? Considering he would be the more relevant lover of hers in that situation ( I might be completely wrong tho)
I don't see a lot of people mentioning, that in "Wouldn't you like", Hermes tells Odysseus that the power of the Moly flower is "Only for a moment, till you've beaten your opponent". In "Done For" Odysseus says the line "You've Lost" after beating Circe's Chimera. Its at this moment when the Moly wears off, and Circe knows this. Which is why she moves into trying to bring down Odysseus's guard in "There Are Other Ways" to try and end him and cast a spell on him. But as we see the love for Penelope is too strong even for the spell.
17:25 hermes probably doesn't care. hermes came to help oddyseus defeat circe. he never mentioned needing to kill circe. hermes helped cause he wanted to. cause hermes is hermes.
I don’t remember if it’s confirmed but I remember hearing somewhere that Athena might have asked Hermes to give it to Odysseus as despite no longer being mentor mentee, she doesn’t want to see him defeated that easily. Don’t remember if that’s an actual thing but I remember people talking about it somewhere.
Fun fact, Jay very specifically had the idea for having Oddy choose to summon a cyclpose. Theres a fun little breakdown he did showing the animation he commisioned and his origional video sent for reference. The Cyclops is a creature Oddy knows the strengths and weaknesses of best, not to mention that he turns the table WHEN HE GIVES HIM A CLUB...
Ooh, gotta go back and look for the club now. I think Summoned!Cy only uses his fist in this one. I'm sorry, after what happened in the cave, I could not.
To clarify for the story: Hermes is not mad at Odysseus for not killing Circe. He actually helps him again a bit later. Also, Hermes helping him doesn't seem to have any ulterior motive in the story. Instead, it's likely because in the Odyssey Odysseus is Hermes's great-grandson, so it's a family thing. Also, yes, Odysseus manages to convince Circe to help them by recognizing and appealing to her better nature. She was never a full villain in the Odyssey story, she was actually more of a guide who helped Odysseus and his men before and after the Underworld. Honestly, I love Percy Jackson, but I do find it a bit annoying that Circe was portrayed as a one-off villain in Sea of Monsters. Because, like, in the Odyssey story, after everything with the pigs went down and she turned them back, she let Odysseus and his men chill and recooperate on her island for like, a year. And even after the Underworld, they stopped again at Circe's island and she gave them some directions and supplies before sending them on their way. She was way more of a help than a hinderence to them in the original story.
@@Apophis.004 Essentially, yes, you hit the nail on the head. She doesn't trust outsiders and especially not men. But after Odysseus proved his loyalty to his wife, she accepted it.
Also i read a post on tumblr with some analysis. While odysseus does not betray his wife here, he does betray his men. This is the first time he is explicitly putting his wife above his mens' lives. Circe presents him with a dichotomy(though unknowingly); "betray your marriage and save your men" or "dont, and leave your men behind as pigs", and Odysseus chooses the latter. He is willing to risk his life(as seen in his response to Eurylicus) for his men, he will compromise on himself. But he will not compromise on his family.
@@officialmortiusit’s very interesting to me, as an odyssey fan because in the original text the opposite happens! Hermes even explicitly tells Odysseus that if he wants to save his men, he has to sleep with Circe and Odysseus complies- who is he to disobey the orders of a god? Their dynamic in the odyssey is fascinating, but I’ll spare you the brainrot lmao. I believe Jorge changed it to make Odysseus more heroic to the modern viewer
@@Behold-my-brainworms Also Spoilers so don’t click the read more if you don’t want it During God Games: Athena uses his faithfulness to convince Hera. That change could have been for that scene.
One of my favorite little touches: in There Are Other Ways, right after Odysseus says “I can’t!”, the violin plays Penelope’s leitmotif. Literally every time before this that someone has mentioned “Penelope”, her name is always sung as the same four notes, and the violin echoes that note progression here as Odysseus firmly reminds himself of who he’s fighting for.
In reference to the "maybe I'm a god like you" that Odysseus retorts to Circe, Circe is technically an immortal, since she is the daughter of the Sun Titan Helios (look closely back at the animatic and you'll see that Anni hid some sun iconography in Circe's apparel). Her parentage to Helios is also often cited as where her magic abilities come from. Odysseus' sincerity and loyalty to his wife are what win over Circe in the EPIC version of the story, as Circe realizes they are more alike than either realized and, as you said in your reaction, if ever there was a time to break the cycle of cruelty and make for a safer life for her nymphs, this is as good a chance as any. Can't wait for the Underworld!
Indeed, she was the daughter of the sun god Helios and Perse, one of the three thousand Oceanid nymphs. Her brothers were Aeëtes, keeper of the Golden Fleece and father of Medea. Her sister was Pasiphaë, the wife of King Minos and mother of the Minotaur! :D I wonder why Perse bore Helios, the source of all light, such dark and mysterious children!
@@aestheticgamer562 Medea is a direct descendant of Helios through her father King Aeëtes of Colchis. Aeëtes married the Oceanid Idyia and Medea was their child :)
i saw a lot of people making jokes about the plastic fork in there are other ways and since there might be some people who dont get it im here to explain basically as advertising for the release of the circe saga jorge uploaded a snipit of the song there are other ways while he and his partner( who is the voice of circe btw!!) were acting out the song and at the beginning Odysseus(jorge) had pinned circe(his partner sorry i forgot her name) to a wall and had his "sowrd" to her neck except he didnt use a sword but instead a plastic fork, long story short that video got taken down for showing dangerous weapons(the plastic fork) so jorge re-uploaded the vidio but with a balck bar over where the fork was and with the words "plastic fork" on it, from then on it has been a meme in the EPIC fandom
15:28 I love that the music tells us the reason why he "can't"even before Odysseus does, because in that pause there it plays only Penelope's melody and instrument.
"Maybe showing one act of kindness leads to kinder souls down the road" is also quite a nice parallel to "Ruthlessness is mercy". Maybe Ody sparing Polyphemus led to Circe's kindness further down the road... Of course, he wouldn't need Circe's kindness if he'd killed the cyclops, but hey ho!
So one thing in There Are Other Ways, Circe’s sneakily stole Odysseus’s knife that he held her at gunpoint with, and when he sings “I’m just a man”, that’s when she was going to stab him in the back. The song and seduction was just a distraction, taking advantage of man’s “pig” nature. She was in absolute control
That's fanon, the original story Hermes TELLS Odysseus that if he doesn't sleep with her he'll never see home. I think Jorge was afraid of Odysseus being made unlikeable if he 'cheated' on Penelope, even if he didn't want it.
@@revenantravingsWell the epic story is different from the odyssey in a bunch of ways. For example if I remember correctly Odysseus never actually meets Poseidon in the original work. But here it’s done to really push the positives of ruthlessness, that this whole Epic story has
I am aware, however making those changes didn't alter Circe's actions up to the major story change. It feels strange to just out of nowhere have Circe intending to just be trying to get his guard down when the 'act of passion' IS how she originally figured out he meant no harm. If anything it leads to the sole issue I have with a project I otherwise adore - in adapting it to a modern audience and adding new themes, the original story becomes muddled. How can Odysseus 'become' a monster when he was already a war criminal that pillaged temples to keep the enemy from praying to his goddess? Let alone framing the man that forced him into the war just so he could have revenge? Is Circe capable of giving a second chance when overpowered but spared, or will she promise her body just for a chance to cut down someone already favored by at least one god, despite no notes in the song implying she meant betrayal and only the theme of ruthlessness making that apt? I can understand Odysseus being changed for a modern retelling, especially since the Odyssey doesn't focus on war crimes and just the consequences of pride and bad choices, but the dagger remains fanon until Jorge says otherwise, and feels wrong for Circe's character.
@@revenantravings Well, it isn't fanon? The idea came from Jorge's live action replay with Circe's voice actor, where in the video she steals the knife and goes to stab him in the back just before the video ends, hiding the part where he pulls away. It's the video that got age restricted and he had to put the "plastic fork" sign over the fake knife on the rereleased video
The dagger is canon, and it adds to her character more than it takes away from her... I'm sorry but I really don't understand what the problem is here. Would it be more in character for Circe, who wanted to protect her nymphs from men at all costs, just sleep with someone she thought was a threat? Nah, it makes much more sense for her to get rid of him. @@revenantravings
Jorge says the reason Odysseus chooses a cyclops is because it’s the monster he would be the most familiar with and would therefore better know its strengths and weaknesses
Oh I know this video's two weeks old but I feel like it's incredibly important to note that Nymphs are always girls, the backup singers when Circe is speaking of kindness, talking about her power, are male, that's the EXACT MOMENT she turns Odysseus's men back and they begin to sing about her as thanks, her kindness spreading to them if only for this single moment
Hey I think you should know that during “ there are other ways” Circe disarms Odysseus and is about to stab him without him, knowing before he pushes her away and brings up Penelope. Plus Hermes helps Odysseus because Hermes usually helps Greek heroes there will be no consequences for Odysseus not killing Circe. Hermes helped just to help. I hope you read this because it’s important information for the musical.
@@karentorresalfaro3371 I don’t know anything about Hermes being Odysseus’s guardian, I only know that in Greek mythology Hermes is known to help Greek heroes, and I know that the writer of Epic the Musical didn’t write Hermes to be an enemy
@@karentorresalfaro3371 Hermes Helped for a multitude of reasons depending on how deep you go. 1) Yes Odysseus is Hermes Great, Great Grandson however Gods don't really care a huge amount for their children's children (though Hermes is kinder to his children than most Gods generally are). 2) Hermes has Beef with Circe, I believe they were briefly in love but could be off there 3) The main reason is that Hermes is the God of Messengers and is the Gods personal delivery boy, Hermes give the Moly to Odysseus at the request of Athena, this is actually evident in the song 'Wouldn't You Like' with the backing vocals being Athenas. Jorge hides a lot of story telling with musical instruments and backing vocals, like because piano is Athenas instrument whenever you hear it it either means Odysseus is being watched, using a wise plan or Athena is present.
I’m unsure if someone has said this already, but Circe summoning the chimera and Odysseus summoning the cyclops for Done for is Jorge’s actual vision for the song, I believe he collaborated with Mircsy to make a short animatic on it, so you should definitely check it out and Jorge’s dissection of it on his channel, because it is very cool. Edit: It was mircsy not Gigi, sorry for the confusion
Circe is the child of a sea nymph (lower divinity) and the sun Titan (Helios) old but fallen divinity. This places her in a shaky area surrounding her divinity. She has power and her parentage is such that she exists between elements and thus can bend the physical form. If she is a full goddess or more of a lower divinity is up to interpretation, but one thing is for sure, she is NOT human
Circe is in full control. If you remember in wouldn't you like that Moly will only last until circe's defeat, the defeat was when the chimera was defeated, after that Odysseus can be placed under Circe's spells once more. Circe is an immortal, a goddess and an enchantress.
Not just the lyricism of Hamilton, but the music. The opening sound (the strings) for "Alexander Hamilton" and every other "How does a..." song is a door creaking open, but in "Your Obedient Servant", the door is slamming shut. Whether that symbolizes Burr's political aspirations or Alexander's life, Idk.
As for animatics for the underworld saga. There are 3 artists i found that have done an amazing job already releasing full length animations for underworld and no longer you. One is ShinQuing47 while the other 2 are Gwendy and Ximena Natzel. Highly reccomend them their all talented!!
@@maximilianogarcia2042 mine too i love that there’re two diffrent version of images to the lyrics with “song of past romance, sacrifice of man, portrayal of betrayal, and a brother’s final stand” in it.
9:49 remember we’re talking about an immortal witch (a motherly goddess to her nymphs) who have a bad history with men, vs a MORTAL soldier with the tongue of a Fox, the mind of a warrior and the Brains of an owl (sometimes)… and this is probably after encountering Poseidon who have the temper of a 4 year old and drowned his men… so… (hey, I love Greek mythology as the next geek, but we can agree about Poseidon) 😅😅
"Her view is all men are pigs." That's actually the origin of that idea. She now knows she doesn't need to fear him and his men, so she's helping them.
21:22 I think it also means especially with “but there’s no puppet here” she recognizes him as a puppeteer and she thinks the world needs men like him more then if she were to let him fail here. He is in the same boat as her and so she sees someone like her who is playing the game to do what needs to be done and if she shows him kindness maybe together they can change the world… they share a dream… and the world has destroyed her… but it hasn’t destroyed him yet… so she’s giving him a chance… a chance to become better…
In my head, the switch happens from when he says, "I can't" Circe is implied to have been hurt by men, and was only attempting to seduce Ody to kill him. Ody, despite over a decade of not seeing his wife, didn’t give in. I have a visual of her with her exposed chest, waiting for him to... have his way with her, but he, instead, takes off his little cape thing and wraps it around her shoulders to cover her chest, basically saying "this wont work on me, and because im not your lover, i don't need to see you in this way." Circe, in this moment, is overwhelmed that a man didn’t take advantage of her, let alone one she was inviting into her bed, and that's why she flipped. This is only my interpretation though
ShiQing47 It has a beautiful animatic for Underworld Ximena Narzel It has the best interpretation with a lot of details of "No longer you" Lampircy It's the only one that has made a Monster animatic and I think it's VERY good. You have these to react, my favorite is the Ximena because of the details it has
@@LilyBirds I mean, I know, but I don't think I'll be ready for the time our guy puts out his video. Gigi's animatics are some of the best, but that's also why they take longer. I only recommend what is there to react with animatic 🥹
Lampyrcy's animatic interprets one of the lyrics of Monster incorrectly and it's super glaring, and while the rest of the animatic is good, that kills it for me.
@@bookswithike3256 I know exactly which part you mean it kinda ruined the whole thing for me ngl haha it's super good otherwise except for mistaking one char for another near the end 😅
In the Original Odyssey, Hermes tells Odysseus that when he points his sword at Circe, She will ask him to go to bed with her and that he's supposed to say yes in order to get his men back, its not cheating because he didn't like any of it and was obligated to sleep with her to get his men back and she realizes this therefore she decides to gives his men back and offers them to stay a year at her palace before sending them to the underworld so they can know what to do on their journey In Epic the musical, Circe tries to distract Odysseus by seducing him taking him to her in an attempt to kill him by using his sword and stabbing him behind his back (she's about to stab him in this part 15:22 where you can hear the "paino" noise going down scale) but before she can stab him Odysseus backs away since he was uncomfortable by the whole situation and tells her that hes trying to get back to his wife whom he loves so dearly to these words Circe realizes hes being genuine and that as you said, not all men are "pigs" and therefore gives his men back and helps them
To the beginning of Done for (5:16) you heard the motive in another musical because it is the same motive as in Habanera from Carmen. Oh and the Celli are also the same as in Habanera
I have so much love for "Done For", it's an awesome way to depict the confrontation between Odysseus and Circe! The fact that neither try to hide what's at stake for them makes it all the more tense - Circe making it clear immediately that she's just protecting her nymphs and herself from intruders, and Odysseus answering that he needs to aid and protect the men under his command. The way it's revealed too that Circe is doing this for an actual reason (that she and/or her nymphs have gotten hurt before because they welcomed strange men into their home) really hits home; they got hurt before, and it has caused at least Circe herself to see men as little else than pigs. That, uh, Hermes implies that the people turned into pigs are eventually eaten is... yeeeaaaah... And again, once again, we see Odysseus getting cocky and not 100% thinking before he tries to bluff his way through a confrontation... The fact that he even tried to lie to Circe about having acquired the moly by himself is nnnnot his smartest moment, really... Honestly, the fact that "There Are Other Ways" immediately opens with Circe pretty much admitting that she's about to be deceitful - "There are other ways of persuasion, there are other modes of control; there are other means of deceit". Odysseus was... admittedly a bit distracted, let's be honest. It's implied that the power of the moly wore off very quickly after he summoned the Cyclops to fight the Chimera, which leaves him a bit more vulnerable. But he didn't even come to think about the fact that Circe would attempt to kill him when she was seducing him. The only thing that saves him is his devotion to Penelope - but even that was so tested there. "Who's to say, with the mistakes I've made, that they will be the last mistakes I ever make?" Right there he's seriously considering giving in, and then it's followed with his repeat of "I'm just a man". Classic little excuses some people give for being with someone else than their spouse, right? It does speak to his willpower that he manages to push back enough and hold on to that devotion! I'll never be over the fact that Jorge mistakenly wrote "twelve long years" rather than "ten years", though. His admission of that being a mistake, and then retconning that mistake into "Oh, Odysseus is trying to win sympathy from Circe" rather than it seeming like Odysseus can't math because Temptation... It's too good. It's just too good. Can't wait for your reactions to the Underworld saga! Especially "No Longer You", honestly!
15:25 Penelope's theme coming across the mind of Odysseus breaks my wife every time. Additionally, there are full-length animatics from Juu and MOON, for there are other ways.
This irritates a very specific part of my brain, because I am building a playlist of animatics for this musical, so I too was hindered by the lack of animatics for There Are Other Ways, but one, literally just ONE, came out a few days before Underworld, so Mortius JUST missed it. No fault to Mortius himself, of course; we love Mortius. It's just unfortunate xD Oh well, if he's covering just the audio versions of the Underworld, we could do an 'animatic catch-up' video. There's already some for the Underworld songs too :)
9:00 Yes, Circe is a goddess. She's one of the children of Helios, the Titan of the Sun (literally the Sun incarnate) and his wife Perseis. That, I guess, is why in the "Done For" animatic the artists added some sun imagery to Circe's design. Another fun fact: Her brother Aeëtes is the father of the sorceress Medea (wife of Jason, the leader of the Argonauts) and her sister is Pasiphaë, wife of King Minos of Crete and mother of the Minotaur.
So before going into the underworld saga, although you may have already, a couple of tips. In the Odyssey, Odysseus and his remaining crew stayed one year at Circe’s palace. Jay confirmed that the souls in the underworld sing the last thing they were thinking before they died. It isn’t a part of Jay’s musical but in the Odyssey, Odysseus does meet Achilles in the underworld. It’s not really important to the story, just a cool Easter Egg if someone has read all of Homer’s works. Also, get ready to cry! I know who Odysseus meets in the underworld, and I still cried.
Mortius! there are already two full amazing animations of the Underworld saga that you could react! Song 18: The Underwolrd By ShiQing47 and song 19: No longer you By Gwendy | NS2D STUDIO! And GiGi's next animation is song 20: monster! So you can react to two songs already and later make a video just for "Monster" animatic by gigi!
I love Gwendy | NS2Dstudio, "no longer you" animations. but i also think is a lil bit too explicit with the.... profecy interpretation, and i think it could be cooler if Mortis reacted to a more vague artist interpretation of the song, so he can't have he's own take. Like, Ximena Natzel ("same animator of "wouldn't you like") or Krieo versions.
Lol everyone is like "shouldve killed circe" or "this is polites's open arms concept" like....no, he came there to get his men back. He needs circe to reverse her spell. He HAS to let her live.
"Odysseus, even at his darkest moment-" wait, you think being tempted by Circe is his darkest moment? ...oh honey. also I hope Jorge knows his musical talents straight up broke a man lmaooo
So what Circe summons is a chimera. During the line at the beginning when she sings "If you make one wrong move then you're done for." you can actually hear the sound of a big cat's roar in the music! It represents Circe summoning her chimera. Just like when Circe and Odysseus sing the line "You've made your one wrong move, now you're done for." together, you can hear the roar of the cyclops which represents him summoning one to fight Circe's chimera.
Some additional info is that Poseidon is kind of known to be a sexual predator in Greek mythology, so for him to be at odds with him gives her more information for what type of person he is.
Oh and speaking of the Underworld saga, I have a few animatics I can recommend if you'd like: - The Underworld by ShiQing47 - No Longer you by Gwendy | NS2D Studios (The full version is on their channel) - Monster by Lampyrcy I think these are the ones I can think off the top of my hat :)
The song moti I believe is from the hidden part of the Troy saga when they're still in the horse I believe its just a 'prep for confrontation' and since the troops are still 'present', albeit magical, it goes under HER musical sounds/instrument/control
Dude, you should watch Jorge and Talia actually act out the beginning of There Are Other Ways - it cuts off just before the 'I CAN'T' and it's so good. And it's what everyone is joking about when they talk about the plastic fork, because he uses that instead of a sword lmao
Omg i just realized why Telemachus in the Song "legendary" why he said Giant and A Chimera now...Cause it was from this song 10:31 Telemachus was mentioning those monsters some saga's
Fun fact Hermes is kind of just a chaotic bro that shows up every now and again XD. I dont think he is here for anything except to be confusing and have fun XDDDD
"We've got Doom music with crystal clear vocals, I don't know how to feel about this." That means it's working. Circe's complicated. She comes off as evil, but she's not, she just wants to protect her nymphs.
Also, given that there’s only three songs in the Underworld Saga, and they all happen pretty much right after each other, I think it’s be best to watch all three together.
In the teaser video Jay and Talya recorded, as she's singing, she takes the sword (represented in the video by a plastic spoon, which Tik Tok still deemed worthy of a flag) from his hand and is about to stab him in the back with it right before "I can't!"
Just so you know, Hermes dosent really care he didn't kill her. He didn't give her the herbs to kill her, just to give ody a chance to not get insta killed. So that at least isn't a worry
Also, I just want to point out: Circe is the first time Odysseus has balanced Athena and Polites' ideologies. Athena says "kill your enemies, so they stop being enemies" and Polites says "Let's release the guilt and focus on kindness now that war is over" Odysseus fights Circe til she loses, but then has an actual conversation with her, shifts the dynamic of power so that she's the one in control, and explains some of his thought process (his wife, who is the only reason he beat Circe's spell), and *it works*. Circe changes from attempting to kill Odysseus to going "sure, I'll help" Because this man was honest, and not needlessly cruel, and yet showed he wasn't willing to just let Circe kick his butt in Done For.
Circe isn't usually called a goddess, but her father was a titan and her mother was a nymph, and she's immortal. I feel like if she had a specific domain then she would be considered more godlike, but regardless she is divine in some way.
"Claims your power" Meaning her magic abilities. "She can conjure up a monster that'll grind you to the bone." Also, "manifest a being of your creation,"
The single deep "DONNNNG!" Piano note to punctuate "dead" always scratches a particular itch in my brain. Like a super-classy variant of a record scratch so the whole audience has a second to go "What?" in proper Epic tradition :p
For “there are other ways of persuasion” I recently saw a cosplay reenactment that covered not the whole song sadly, but it was so cool to see it play out irl! You should check it out!
Honestly, this is my first time hearing the song without a animatic. And I had a much harder time getting all the lyrics. I can't really explain it. But my brain had a much easier time unwinding the overlapping lyrics when it can see the people singing them (Even if they're fake.)
I find this saga as an interesting turning point for Odysseus since in the Troyan saga he gives up morals to win but also gains hope/mercy from Polities but then in the Cyclops saga and the Ocean he's being continuesly shown how the "Open arms" method just backfires on him. the Cicle saga kinda restores that balance when he's losing hope again since he's showing mercy and gains help from that. I love your reaction! I look forward to the Underworld saga ones! Amazing job! Keep it up, you're amazing!!٩(ˊᗜˋ )و❤❤❤
i don't know if you noticed it but at the end when Circe gets background vocals it her turning his men back from pigs, i thinks that realy cool as a detail
For the underworld saga: Like others have said there are already full animatics out for all of the songs! (It's unreal how fast these animators worked!) One of the animatics I have been absolutely obsessed over since I saw it is Ximena Natzel's "No longer you" -animatic, I would love to see your reaction to it!
There's one from Gigi on 'There are other ways' but it's about a year old, still would be good to watch tho and it's one of my favs Anniflamma has now uploaded their 'There are other ways' anamatic too!
I love that you caught the "Just a Man" callback, but not the "Puppeteer" callback in their duet. "Think of your past, and your mistakes. They'll be the last mistakes you'll make." 😂
Hermes was 100% watching the whole thing. He just loves the drama and chaos. It's not like Odysseus could kill an immortal goddess anyway. Hermes is the one god Odysseus doesn't have an issue with, and I assume it's because he's family. Also, Hermes just wants to party.
I can definetky picture Hermes with a bag of popcorn enjoying the show with one of the pigs by his side. If I ever make an animation for the song I’m def including that canon or not
5:38 I think he’s conflating the danger motif and the song’s opening motif because there is a similar beat if you look at it hard enough the danger motif is being built upon as her is talking to cerci so it wouldn’t be surprising to think the two were connected but i don’t think they are
Random fun fact: The men Circe transforms aren't all made into pigs. Some turn to wolves and or lions. But, had Circe succeeded in turning Odysseus into an animal, she thinks he'd probably turn into a fox.

in the original telling Odysseus and Circe stayed together for a year and had a kid before he left for the underworld
@thehoodgamesdr8446 and the kid went on to send his father back to underworld permanently

I think having the kid was added in other tellings, but yes, he did stay in the original poem.

@@officialmortius You should listen to the epenor song and watch the animation that someone made for it and put that in the underworld saga reaction if thats not to late, its a cut verse from one of the songs in it
Also hilarious to think that Circe just shrank one of them down for the little nymph to have an adorable little pet.
Daughter of helios, she's a goddess, but they call her a witch
she can be both, as a treat ^_^
The Odyssey calls her goddess (thea) and same with Latin poets (dea). The island is her place of power. That's why Hermes can cheat, but he couldn't help Odysseus by forcing Circe to give back his men.
is she not a daughter of hecate?
@Thatonebluewitch different myths have different origins, but I belive the majority have circe as the daughter of Helios and the sea nymph Perse, who was a daughter of the old sea god before posidon.
@@melissaf5331 There was a Sea God before Poseidon?
Scylla didn't deserve none of it of course, but then again this is *Greek mythology,* women never get a break here anyway 😅
depends on the version, in others it's poseidon's wife who curses her
Wait I thought the lover that she was talking about was Hermes? Considering he would be the more relevant lover of hers in that situation ( I might be completely wrong tho)
Wow, you learn something new everyday. Thank you
**Jotting down notes for the Thunder Saga** Oh, don't mind me
I don't see a lot of people mentioning, that in "Wouldn't you like", Hermes tells Odysseus that the power of the Moly flower is "Only for a moment, till you've beaten your opponent".
And it is bloody job to help heroes.
I love Hermes so much, he's such a goofy little god of the hot tea
He’s just there to be funky and cause drama
I don’t remember if it’s confirmed but I remember hearing somewhere that Athena might have asked Hermes to give it to Odysseus as despite no longer being mentor mentee, she doesn’t want to see him defeated that easily.
Don’t remember if that’s an actual thing but I remember people talking about it somewhere.
This is all on top of the fact that Odysseus is Hermes’ great great grandkid, Hermes has even more reason for wanting Odysseus to survive
15:23 Every time i hear that, "I can't" then the viola goes, literally "pen-elo-pe, pen-elo-pe" i love it
it's a viola actually, bc that's Penelope's instrument
@josefinagonzalezdamico4538 thank you for the correction
Fun fact, Jay very specifically had the idea for having Oddy choose to summon a cyclpose. Theres a fun little breakdown he did showing the animation he commisioned and his origional video sent for reference.
The Cyclops is a creature Oddy knows the strengths and weaknesses of best, not to mention that he turns the table WHEN HE GIVES HIM A CLUB...
You can even hear it roar in the background when he summons it.
Brilliant!
My man ody is just traumatized to hell he can't imagine anything more powerful than a cyclops
Ooh, gotta go back and look for the club now. I think Summoned!Cy only uses his fist in this one. I'm sorry, after what happened in the cave, I could not.
To clarify for the story:
Hermes is not mad at Odysseus for not killing Circe.
So did she originally turn them to pigs because of her past experiences with men and then Odysseus convinced her that he isn't like all men?

Anniflamma is currently working on a There Are Other Ways animatic. She's about half-way done at this point in time.
As of today, she is done with it, released today
In reference to the "maybe I'm a god like you" that Odysseus retorts to Circe,
Circe is technically an immortal, since she is the daughter of the Sun Titan Helios (look closely back at the animatic and you'll see that Anni hid some sun iconography in Circe's apparel).
I thought Medea was Helios daughter/grandaughter?

i saw a lot of people making jokes about the plastic fork in there are other ways and since there might be some people who dont get it im here to explain
basically as advertising for the release of the circe saga jorge uploaded a snipit of the song there are other ways while he and his partner( who is the voice of circe btw!!) were acting out the song and at the beginning Odysseus(jorge) had pinned circe(his partner sorry i forgot her name) to a wall and had his "sowrd" to her neck except he didnt use a sword but instead a plastic fork, long story short that video got taken down for showing dangerous weapons(the plastic fork) so jorge re-uploaded the vidio but with a balck bar over where the fork was and with the words "plastic fork" on it, from then on it has been a meme in the EPIC fandom
Talya is his girlfriend's name, and yes I remember that. 🤣
And Circe birth the son of Odysseus, Telegono
Oh I know this video's two weeks old but I feel like it's incredibly important to note that Nymphs are always girls, the backup singers when Circe is speaking of kindness, talking about her power, are male, that's the EXACT MOMENT she turns Odysseus's men back and they begin to sing about her as thanks, her kindness spreading to them if only for this single moment
I thought that Odysseus begging Circe was him dropping his guard like Polites had told him, “greet the world with open arms”.
Hey I think you should know that during “ there are other ways” Circe disarms Odysseus and is about to stab him without him, knowing before he pushes her away and brings up Penelope. 1) Yes Odysseus is Hermes Great, Great Grandson however Gods don't really care a huge amount for their children's children (though Hermes is kinder to his children than most Gods generally are).
2) Hermes has Beef with Circe, I believe they were briefly in love but could be off there
3) The main reason is that Hermes is the God of Messengers and is the Gods personal delivery boy, Hermes give the Moly to Odysseus at the request of Athena, this is actually evident in the song 'Wouldn't You Like' with the backing vocals being Athenas. Jorge hides a lot of story telling with musical instruments and backing vocals, like because piano is Athenas instrument whenever you hear it it either means Odysseus is being watched, using a wise plan or Athena is present.

21:22 I think it also means especially with “but there’s no puppet here” she recognizes him as a puppeteer and she thinks the world needs men like him more then if she were to let him fail here. In my head, the switch happens from when he says, "I can't"
Circe is implied to have been hurt by men, and was only attempting to seduce Ody to kill him.

In the Original Odyssey, Hermes tells Odysseus that when he points his sword at Circe, She will ask him to go to bed with her and that he's supposed to say yes in order to get his men back, its not cheating because he didn't like any of it and was obligated to sleep with her to get his men back and she realizes this therefore she decides to gives his men back and offers them to stay a year at her palace before sending them to the underworld so they can know what to do on their journey
In Epic the musical, Circe tries to distract Odysseus by seducing him taking him to her in an attempt to kill him by using his sword and stabbing him behind his back (she's about to stab him in this part 15:22 where you can hear the "paino" noise going down scale) but before she can stab him Odysseus backs away since he was uncomfortable by the whole situation and tells her that hes trying to get back to his wife whom he loves so dearly to these words Circe realizes hes being genuine and that as you said, not all men are "pigs" and therefore gives his men back and helps them
To the beginning of Done for (5:16) you heard the motive in another musical because it is the same motive as in Habanera from Carmen. Oh and the Celli are also the same as in Habanera

And you know… she’s not wrong. 😂
funfact! The music you hear after "I can't!" is Pelenope's motiff. It's the same when Ody talks about her during Horse and the Infant
About Hermes taking revenge...In Greek mythology, Odysseus is Hermes' great-grandson.
I love how Circe looks sorry for Odysseus when she tells him that Mortals can't get Moly without Dire consequences.
“The last time we let strangers in we faced a heavy loss”
Did you notice in the flashback there are four nymphs but in present there are only three
9:00 Yes, Circe is a goddess.
I expected you to notice Penelope’s motif. I’m very surprised you didn’t even notice it😮
Lol everyone is like "shouldve killed circe" or "this is polites's open arms concept" like....no, he came there to get his men back. He needs circe to reverse her spell. He HAS to let her live.
"Odysseus, even at his darkest moment-" wait, you think being tempted by Circe is his darkest moment?
...oh honey.
also I hope Jorge knows his musical talents straight up broke a man lmaooo
A way to remember Odysseus is “Oh, dis is us.”
dis is us, the raining king of Ithaca
Oh and speaking of the Underworld saga, I have a few animatics I can recommend if you'd like:
- The Underworld by ShiQing47
- No Longer you by Gwendy | NS2D Studios (The full version is on their channel)
- Monster by Lampyrcy

The song moti I believe is from the hidden part of the Troy saga when they're still in the horse
I believe its just a 'prep for confrontation' and since the troops are still 'present', albeit magical, it goes under HER musical sounds/instrument/control

We actually don't have Hermes' vocals doubled up, that belting/launching "Oooooohhh!" is Odysseus - Jorge confirmed it in a TikTok comment
I just imagine he's doing that ohs of that section because he's tripping.
Fun fact Hermes is kind of just a chaotic bro that shows up every now and again XD. I dont think he is here for anything except to be confusing and have fun XDDDD
He's wonderful and I love him so much. He's just here for the drama.
Yea, exactly what I think, which is why I love him so damn much. He just shows up and has his fun just because he feels like it
"We've got Doom music with crystal clear vocals, I don't know how to feel about this." That means it's working. Circe's complicated. She comes off as evil, but she's not, she just wants to protect her nymphs.
Fun Fact: The VA for Circe, Talya is dating Jorge
Athena says "kill your enemies, so they stop being enemies" and Polites says "Let's release the guilt and focus on kindness now that war is over"
Odysseus fights Circe til she loses, but then has an actual conversation with her, shifts the dynamic of power so that she's the one in control, and explains some of his thought process (his wife, who is the only reason he beat Circe's spell), and *it works*. Circe changes from attempting to kill Odysseus to going "sure, I'll help"
Because this man was honest, and not needlessly cruel, and yet showed he wasn't willing to just let Circe kick his butt in Done For.
The moment The Underworld is mentioned by anyone anywhere ever you hear the cries of a thousand souls in the music
The quote "what was those musics?" Had me rolling! 😂 God your editor makes some amazing choices!
Fun fact. The voice for circe is Jorge's actual girlfriend haha
Teasers for "There Are Other Ways" had me joking before Circe Saga was released that it seems more like "The Circe Pamphlet". 🤣
When Odysseus shouts "I can't", you can here Penelopie's violin playing her song. You can hear this violin tune in "The House and the Boy" as well.
Two Things:
1: You're not ready for the Underworld Saga
2: I can't wait to watch you react to it.
This will be the best birthday present ever when it premieres!! So looking forward to the reaction!
"Ooh there are other ways for us to handle this situation boi" with the shoulder shimmy got me crying laughing😂 absolutely love your reactions!
For the Underworld saga, I recommend The Underworld by ShiQing47, No Longer You by Ximena Natzel, and Monster by Lampyrcy!!
Honestly, this is my first time hearing the song without a animatic. And I had a much harder time getting all the lyrics.
I can't really explain it. But my brain had a much easier time unwinding the overlapping lyrics when it can see the people singing them (Even if they're fake.)
Circe is a Goddess and a Witch. Daugther of the sun (Helios) and a sea nymp (Perse)
The fact that worst monster Odysseus can imagine is a cyclops just hits different.
i don't know if you noticed it but at the end when Circe gets background vocals it her turning his men back from pigs, i thinks that realy cool as a detail
There's one from Gigi on 'There are other ways' but it's about a year old, still would be good to watch tho and it's one of my favs
Anniflamma has now uploaded their 'There are other ways' anamatic too!
Circe is in fact a goddess, she's just commonly identified as a witch due to her putting spells on mortals.
I love that you caught the "Just a Man" callback, but not the "Puppeteer" callback in their duet. "Think of your past, and your mistakes. They'll be the last mistakes you'll make." 😂
You should totally watch the full animation of “there are many ways” cause the same person that made “done for”has a full one out now 😊
Hermes was 100% watching the whole thing.
