Are you using hard or soft oils? This will also affect the hardness of your soap. What percentage of SL are you using? Too much may have a counter affect.

Present and accounted for. I always wondered if the sodium lactate I was adding was really making any difference. I have my answer! Thanks again for a great class, Teach!

I'm waiting for my Sodium Lactate to be delivered, so this tutorial is perfect. I'll start experimenting with it at 1% ppo. Your videos have been so helpful. I made your Facial Bar recipe yesterday in a PVC pipe and am excited to unmold it today. Thanks so much for generously sharing your knowledge!

Just used Sodium lactate yesterday for my cube mold. Left it in the mold about 18 hours and they pretty much slid right out, corners in tact!

I have used the sodium lactate in 2 batches and I can not tell a difference in the "hardness" I used 2% adding it to the lye mixture. Did I do something wrong? Thanks for helping this aspiring soaper.

Thanks for another great lesson. I have always used sodium lactate, especially in my goats milk soaps, I just like the feel if the soap. I first started using it in HP as it definitely improved the smoothness when putting HP in the mould, x Linda

Can you clarify one thing for me - at 1:12ish, your slide says, "To create a softer soap, sodium lactate may be added up to 3%." Is this correct? Thanks for the fantastic videos, they are truly wonderful!

  • @hdb80
    @hdb80 11 лет назад +24

I'm confused. To make it softer you add more? You get a harder soap if you add 1% and a softer soap if you add 3%? Really?

Apologies for being late Teach, Dentist Appointment this morning, ouch! Great tutorial, very informative and right on time for me. I have recently been using the powder sodium lactate, never sure if I should pre-mix it with oil or water or just add it dry, not a lot of info on that part of the process is available, what do you suggest? I notice more soapers are including it in their soap making. I agree, when I have used it, my soap is much harder. I see the 'OLD' star beat me into class! x

Well lets see I was drinking a glass of tea. I saw that picture and I had two choices spray it all over my lap top or swallow it fast. I swallowed it fast, and about choked. So Phil is out to kill me!! He is on my wanted list now. Just wait he is going to get it!! LOL

Hello dear. Ive been following your vids for some time and few months back i tried making my own cp soap.
My recipe includes olive oil, coconut oil, and canola oil. Everything seems to work well in the start but after cutting the soap and using it, a gel kind of liquid(gooey) starts coming out from the soap. The gooey comes from the area which is in contact with the soap tray or any surface.Ive changed my lye but still every batch i make gives out sufficient amount of gooey liquid after using it.
I would be very very grateful if you can guide me to get rid of this gooey from soap. I havent been able to find any solution on the internet as alot of soap makers are unfamiliar with it .

Teach can you help me out, I bought some Lard at the grocery store with the intentions of making a batch with it but when I put it in SoapCal the hardness properties show that it would be a soft bar of soap. I wanted to do a test batch but I also didn't want to waste the oils either. Can you suggest a recipe using the lard? Thanks in advance teach.

I have both powder and liquid sodium lactate. Does the percentage for sodium lactate stay the same (!%) fro a harder soap bar if it is in powder form and liquid form, or is there a difference between them? Thank you in advance

Honest dentist visit is was, (I do have a couple of teeth that I could have sent in the post but they were not the problem hehe!) I was gagging for a coffee when I got back, logged into 101 seen that photo and the coffee that I struggled to get into my numb mouth just fell back out - I just cracked up (I need Teach to make a stain remover now!) The 'OLD' was not directed at you- talk to breezy about her 101 mug, sooooo funny!!!! xx

The answers were never offered to me sister. Phil tried to sell them to Suzy and that is when their wedding was called off, Suzy thought Phil was mean to charge her for them! I wish Phil would take that cowboy hat off in class, I can't see what Teach is doing. His spurs keep catching my desk as he walks past. Where is the duck tape, if you can keep him talking I will crawl under his desk and tape his spurs together hehehe! That'll teach him to strut around class distracting everyone. xx

Phil are you loosing your mind, if I remember right you were trying to sell the answers to Rene I think? I didn't take them!! I am studious and I listen in class unlike others who have to get their beauty sleep and miss class. Or train their mouse to do poopoo for the Olympics. I am not going to tell you how good Teach's soap is. If you pass your test you can find out too. HA!! Now go make more video's for us in the cowboy hat ok

Your spurs might be nice and sharp but they're rusty and will never be the beautiful colour of Kyme's prickly pear. Any way the sisters will be here soon with a file and the duck tape to sort you and your spurs out. Keep your hat on then and see if you don't get into trouble for it. TEACH, Teach, Phil won't take his cowboy hat off and I can't see what your doing...... are you eating donuts Teach????????? xx
