2:14 This jam they play is my favorite thing ever. It sounds like an anthem for the converging of worlds, or like they're calling upon some all-powerful spirit lost in ancient times. Only these three can do this with their guitar playing!
holy fucks, this is so goddamn old. i loved it 6 years ago and i still love it now... and its almost 10 years ago they recoded this! this is omar between deloused and frances, flea after having recorded bass for deloused and john and flea between by the way and stadium arcadium.... it feels like watching the history channel, but in cool, with music and with less war and hitler. shhhittt
This is one of the best things ive ever heard. every time i listen to it i forget about everything else and fill my entire brain with this music. they should record this!
yeah i do! it was once said that this trio (john, flea and omar) has three tracks to be recorded.. but this was about five years ago.. damn i can remember when i got this video on dvd and spent nights on playing this jam..
As a fan and fellow musician, this makes me feel both complete amazement and jealousy at the same time. I remember this being described as "improv" once, which it certainly is not!! I just wonder how long it took them to work it out. On to part 2!
It really shows what kind of person John is by the fact he's wearing a white t-shirt, jeans, and a pair of new balance. He really is an amazing person.
Nearing the end of this I started to feel as though I couldn't wait for part 2 but I couldn't skip ahead out of sheer epic-ness. Two of my very favorite bands are put together right there! :D
the 1:25 rhythm is sooo TMVb, flea and john just help establish that huge sound though. and then the npart that comes after with the fast bass riff....wow. it seems like some polyrhytmic shit going down between omar and flea. John's lead part is so perfect. They need to release recordings of this
I wonder if Flea, Anthony and Chad ever though of Omar as their next guitar player after John. I know it's a different style, but rhcp were always evolving as artists...it could have worked.
The pinnacle, the polar opposite of a several hundred piece orchestra, just as complex, just as mutating, yet perfomed by just 3 mathematicians. The grandeur belies the simplicity of being one with wood, metal, sparks and spatial awareness bordering on pre-cognition. In short, they kick ass!
@unamericano ditto. but i started on bass and moved to guitar. still played both. all i can say is the more instruments the more versatile you become. Flea is amazing in this, look at those chords
Check out Mars Voltas latest album, where Omar Rodriguez left all his written guitarplay to John Frusciante because he wanted to keep an objective seat as a producer. This is awsome, John truly rocks out in this style as well. And btw check out John Frusciantes solo records. Songwriting genius, it will capture your soul.
@Seager123 That's exactly what John said in an interview, people have their own theory about how to play, it's like an organized system of notes or mental representation but there is no one absolute theory, the only things is true is the emotion can you give
no. you cant improve changes and structures like this. its fascinating that they memorized it all. this reminds me alot of the ultra rational music of the 50s
in the sense that it is improvisational, i agree. I don't know what you mean by a "jam." There'd be too much mind reading going on for them to be as in line with each other for the whole thing. I'd consider it to be a jam though, just not an improvisational one as rhcp does so often
i might add that that tends to be the way they usually dress. omar and flea often wear nice mature suits, while john has before, i likes to wear t-shirts and flanel and jeans more often at least recently
@Louay1345 Its clearly evident that certain sections of this have been rehearsed. Yes obviously they have a chemistry and know which section to play next just by a nod of the head or something, but they've probably played them before. still fucking fantastic tho.
WAIT! totally didn't mean to post that I stupidly realized that you were talking about the verse and your right! It's very similar! ha i thought you were relating it to the intro of tetragrammaton and i was veryy confused because they are so different.
Listen to the recording of 'Tuesday Night in Berlin' from the Fortune Faded single. It's a massive long jam with all the boys plus Ekkehard Ehlers on synths etc. Anthony adds some amazingly cool vocal stuff in to the mix. I loved it anyway... I don't think breaking the brothers up would do good things for them mentaly. None of us have any idea how much of an inspiration their friendship could be to eachother. They have been through a lot.
if you know anything about playing guitar with other people, its clearly evident this wasn't rehearsed. they just have chemistry because they're friends and play together frequently.
Guys I used to always b asking for tabs but I recommend you all to start taking out those guitar parts by ear... It might b hard at first but if u never try u will never learn, its like if you never teach a baby to hold a spoon they will always be depending of others, so train your ear, it will take time but do it and leave guitar mediocrity! Good vid thou thanks !!
666nAck is right. I'm guessing the structure of this is similar to the Ataxia project; In previous jams they come up with a bunch of cool ideas with no real form, then use them as a base for the new jam and see where the journey takes them.
Thats What Music Is All About Right their, Just Jamming. I Like The Part Where Flea Slaps The Crap Out Of The Bass Like " Take That You Goddamn Precision" Haha! Awesome Post. Please Let Me Know Where I Could Find This If At All Possible.
every kind of expression made by sounds can be called music. if you record you punching your table and call it music, it's music if the autor call it music, is music
John Fruisciante has never done heroin since getting out of rehab circa 1997, with Californication being released in 1999. Flea tried heroin a couple times, but it was always too hard for him. He mostly smoked pot during shows, and drank, too. John and Flea might be high (maybe, but I can just about garantee John isn't,) but not on Heroin. I couldn't tell you if Omar is or not, but please get your facts strait.
John's sound at 4:30 and on until 5:20 sounds like an Eric Clapton style solo because it seems like John is just soloing off of a pentatonic blues scale.
i was at this show. frusciante asked me to press record on his mp3 player when they started playing.. im the guy yelling "yeah!" after every song
2:14 This jam they play is my favorite thing ever. It sounds like an anthem for the converging of worlds, or like they're calling upon some all-powerful spirit lost in ancient times. Only these three can do this with their guitar playing!

i could cry cause of this brilliancy. it's hard to for me to accept that they're just jamming and that there was no rehearsal... awesome musicians
they're so concentrated and it's like they can read one another's mind and change keys or go in a diff. direction. this a true jam.
my two favorite guitarists and my favorite bassist in such an awesome jam, i now kno the meaning of existence
WHY DIDNT THIS EVER BECOME A THING.
3 geniuses, playing with so much knowledge and soul, on one stage. This is more than awesome!
This is one of the best things ive ever heard. every time i listen to it i forget about everything else and fill my entire brain with this music. they should record this!
yeah i do!

Ah the joy of sitting down with friends and your instruments, and playing whatever comes from your heart. (:
this is incredible because it's the perfect fusion of omar's style and rhcp
2:20 is the start of one of the best pieces of music I have ever heard!
It really shows what kind of person John is by the fact he's wearing a white t-shirt, jeans, and a pair of new balance.
He really is an amazing person.
These guys make magical music together
Three of my favourite musicians playing under one roof. Fucking amazing jam.
Nearing the end of this I started to feel as though I couldn't wait for part 2 but I couldn't skip ahead out of sheer epic-ness. Two of my very favorite bands are put together right there! :D
I love this track! I listen to it all the time.

a very good example of how underrated flea really is... even though he's so famous.. this is just, wow.
It is so amazing and expressive.
this is out and out amazing! Please post more if you got any
there needs to be more music like this. much more.
I wonder if Flea, Anthony and Chad ever though of Omar as their next guitar player after John. I know it's a different style, but rhcp were always evolving as artists...it could have worked.
This is really good! They fit so well!
Damn... never seen Omar's purple SG before! That's so rad that it matches his shirt. This shit is bad-ass.
Best bass and guitarr ever even better together awesome!
Beautiful.
The pinnacle, the polar opposite of a several hundred piece orchestra, just as complex, just as mutating, yet perfomed by just 3 mathematicians. The grandeur belies the simplicity of being one with wood, metal, sparks and spatial awareness bordering on pre-cognition. In short, they kick ass!
my fav.guitarists and bassist.
fuck this is heaven
When the Adidas track suits come off, when Omar comes out, creative musical enterprise envelopes.
This jam is sick
@unamericano ditto. but i started on bass and moved to guitar. still played both. all i can say is the more instruments the more versatile you become. Flea is amazing in this, look at those chords
John is THE MAN.
Beautiful
THIS IS SO COOL WOW FLEA IS AMAZING!!

Magnifico!!!
there needs to be a megaupload link for this as soon as possible
@Seager123 That's exactly what John said in an interview, people have their own theory about how to play, it's like an organized system of notes or mental representation but there is no one absolute theory, the only things is true is the emotion can you give
why cant these three make a whole album it wud just be unbelievable :)
this is amazing
john's so lovely
i love this sound
couldnt have described it better myself!
oooh god, this is great, thanks!!!
These three should make a fucking band and release an album, it'll be the best thing in the world!
greatest bass solo ever!!!
god!!!!!! awesome!!!! love it!! thnxs 4 postin'
9:27 you can just sense how much john loves what hes doing.
God bless Johnny Frusciante's funky soul.
it would be awesome if cedric, omar, john and flea started a band because my ears would probably explode from listening to it.
Fleas bass line is badass beyond believe.
john and flea the best
amazing....
holy shit!!! brilliant!
this is so cool. wish they would record some songs together.
No, I was talking about John having more parts on Volta records :)
Excellent. BTW, I think this is the most clothing I have ever seen Flea wear.
Beauty.
This 3 should always work together, The Mars Volta and the RHCP make such a good clash of eargasms and space super mass destruction shit and stuff!!
no. you cant improve changes and structures like this. its fascinating that they memorized it all.
this reminds me alot of the ultra rational music of the 50s

i had never seen flea playing on a Precision Bass. That sounded pretty cool
i might add that that tends to be the way they usually dress. omar and flea often wear nice mature suits, while john has before, i likes to wear t-shirts and flanel and jeans more often at least recently
unbelievable..
fleas bass line at the beging i love it.
perfect!!!
SICK!
Go omar :)), you the man
sick session
Grandes los tres
I love how I can come back to a vid a year later and be reminded of the love thses guys are due :DD Rock on good people im burning one 4 us all
john tore that shit up man!
I like it. A lot.
i agree, at least in regard to the chili peppers, you got to listen to their old stuff to hear their talent... and that was 20 years ago
awesome!
world of wonders
@Louay1345 Its clearly evident that certain sections of this have been rehearsed. Yes obviously they have a chemistry and know which section to play next just by a nod of the head or something, but they've probably played them before. still fucking fantastic tho.
i love how omar matched with his guitar
basically, they rehearse the riffs and chord changes, but improvise on the solos and some of the lead melodies based on those chord changes.
Godly.
i love how omar has like a retro geek look when he's no where near that... that cracks me up.
WAIT! totally didn't mean to post that I stupidly realized that you were talking about the verse and your right! It's very similar!

I can't be believe they are sitting down for the whole song!

they NEED to record this song properly!!! it would be perfect for one of omar's solo albums!!!!!!!
every kind of expression made by sounds can be called music.
if you record you punching your table and call it music, it's music
if the autor call it music, is music
yup, exactly
@halo3434 flea has a suit on, the world has gone MAD!!!! AAGGGGGHHH!!!

LOL OMAR WITH FLEA AND JOHN!!!
now ive seen everythin
well it is was a jam at first but this clip is when they had obviously rehearsed it quite a few times.
he did : ) e. g. Omar play solo in Inside A Break.
John's sound at 4:30 and on until 5:20 sounds like an Eric Clapton style solo because it seems like John is just soloing off of a pentatonic blues scale.
