That guy playing the drums is Cedric. John & Omar play very well together. Those of you that don't know this is DeFacto, a band created post "At The Drive In" and pre "The Mars Volta". John has been playing with our TX's friends for a long time now. John obviously wanted to play with that type of guitar so he could achieve the type of sound you hear. It is all about what sounds you want to achive with each insturment. FYI
Would you by chance happen to have any photos or video you’d be willing to share with me? I ran the art booths & was taking photos for the LB Catalyst paper. I’d love to see other perspectives from that day if possible:) Happy to share the photos I’ve got in return? 🙂
well they were both seperate projects, Jeremy was more or less mastermind behind Defacto, Mars Volta was already made and weould be recording in summer. They had already toured fall 2001 and some europe dates in feb/march 2002.
no matter wat u tell or how u tell prigden or theodore or any real musician how to play their instrument their always gnna play it in their own style cuz no matter who u r u have ur own style u cant sound like anybody else jus like miles davis dizzy gillespie clifford brown and louis armstrong all had different styles and all of them r amazin at wat they do so let prigden be amazin wit wat he does and theodore wit wat he does
oops correction, this is August 18, 2002. So the summer Deloused demos were probably either done or being worked on at this time. Then they finish it up at mansion in fall/winter '02
Here is the line up: Ikey Owens-Keyboards (MarsVolta & deFacto) Cedric Bixler-Drums deFacto Lead Singer MarsVolta Omar Rodriguez-Lopez Bass Guitar deFacto, Lead Guitar and band director MarsVolta. DeFacto is a side project that Omar Rodriguez-Lopez has, along with the Omar Rodriguez Quintet... Pretty nice stuff and unbelievable musicians!
haha yea, but I WOULD be nervous carrying around a $30,000 guitar too. I'd have to say my fav is his Gibson Black Beauty. Such a badass guitar, Hillel played one too.
The guitar he played that day wasn’t one he brought. It was from the guitarist of another band called Felix Structure, their set was just before de facto’s
I think that you should have noticed that the White falcon is white/cream and this guitar is stained/varnished (or something like that) in colour and not white, plus it looks way different than a white falcon
lets get this straight. yes, john does have a gretsch white falcon, but he's not using it in this video. he's using an epiphone in this video, you can clearly tell by the symbol on the headstock. the symboll for gretsch and epiphone are too different to mix up.
@@danonleon my name is Hiedi, Daen is an old friend but it’s been many many years since I’ve spoken to him, lost contact when I left CA, could you help me get into contact with him?
didn't know the scale of omar's genius could encompass the drums as well... but that still doesn't explain the obvious difference in style between the albums done by theodore and pridgen
What the person before me said. I wish the album version sounded like this!! Maybe it's just me but the two seem completely different... on the Megaton Shotblast album cover it says that Cordova and a few others were recorded in Long Beach and when I put it on my iPod it says [Live]... did De Facto play multiple shows live in Long Beach around this time, or do they just mean "live" like Scabdates live?
De-Facto is a great mixed banded with great artist adding Jhon in this song just makes everiithign better, They kick out the jams, Omar and cedrix are gods!
Please never remove this video - I commented 12 years ago! One of my favorite RUclips videos of all time.
i wish there were more shots of jeremy. he was really talented as well.
this is massive,
in a new style.
i want a de facto t-shirt
Back on this video, see my comment from 7 years ago. This is so good
11 years ago?
@@Prisoner 12!
@@Loud0glbc :D
its been about 10 months without smoking bud (probation) , the first chance i can smoke, this song shall be played
John played the melodic soloing on cicatriz and the whole synth middle part
0:38 reminiscent riff of the song 0=2

so tight. reggae dub rock with john frusciante and omar. i think my dream came true
this is beautiful, the volta guys and John should collab' live more often.
John makes the world a better place.
i second that they both musical genius' with there own individual styles. PRAISE THEM!
Four more-awesome people have never stood under a tent.
i could watch this video all day..
is that a ring modulator at 2:20
some of the greatest musicians in the world all on the same stage... amazing
well they were both seperate projects, Jeremy was more or less mastermind behind Defacto, Mars Volta was already made and weould be recording in summer. They had already toured fall 2001 and some europe dates in feb/march 2002.
one of the most badass setups i've ever seen, i might add
Cedric playing drums and Omar on bass, how kick ass is that?
ok.. i just enjoy their music a whole bunch
I would sell half of my soul to be at this gig... bloody incredible
johns soul has spoken !!!
cedric on drums and omar on bass, fucking awesome. thats some funk.

Some of John riffs reminds me of his solo songs with Omar "0" and "0=2"

Frusciante is the king, he can play ANYTHING
and john on guitar... great trio.
cedric is a wild man on that kit
i just melted
John and Omar are really amazing! they've changed my head.
this is one of the best things i have ever seen on the internet! jackpot of awesome musical glory
pure jamming goodness

the video is magical
Will I ever be as awesome as John?
BRILLIANT SOUNDZ!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
amazing drumming.
JOHN FRUSCIANTE! THE KING OF GUITAR!!!
Great
Absolutely :D
Yes.
Yeah, this was their touring band before Mars Volta. Omar on guitar, Cedric on Drums, and Ikey Owens on Keyboard.
You forgot someone; of utmost importance… Jeremy Michael Ward💙
This was just awesom, He could have done it on a plank but didn`t.Hollow and semis rarely make stage. Nice.
This is amazing footage.
I think that you should have noticed that the White falcon is white/cream and this guitar is stained/varnished (or something like that) in colour and not white, plus it looks way different than a white falcon
dude these guys have like 5 bands theyve been in. mars volta is my fav shit ever!
Ikey is very underrated, he is so good!
Awesome! And let's stop arguing over who is the better guitarist and just agree that they're both amazing, OK? :)
I would have like to see Omar on Guitar and John on Bass ^^
I never thought I should see Frusciante with an Epiphone? :)
god that guitar sounds good.
This video makes my heart bleed, because it's so damn good.
looks like a snare, hat, crash/ride, bass, and one rack tom.
and its sounds like a single bass pedal
Sydbar* is correct.
it is an Ephiphone Joe Pass II minus the pick guard.
I was their. This is my video. I would know.
this was before the chilis recorded californication cause de facto became mars volta right after the album was released.
this is exactlly the reason why i wanted so badly to move to the U.S.A
lets get this straight. yes, john does have a gretsch white falcon, but he's not using it in this video. he's using an epiphone in this video, you can clearly tell by the symbol on the headstock. the symboll for gretsch and epiphone are too different to mix up.
good...
yes
Come on crowd! move around, scream a little! This Fucking Rocks!!
i think they have an album called the legend of the four tailed scorpion, but i don't know how or where to get it
This was a party/art festival in downtown Long Beach to celebrate the first issue of the Long Beach Catalyst.

@motel21 That's not his Gretsch White Falcon. it's an Epiphone. It's tasty (mmm) because John touched it ;)
ahh yea, ur right. i was thinkin of at the drive in, my bad
I wouldn't see Cedric as such a kick ass drummer.
I'm high.
thanks for the video bro I really appreciate it
Doesn't matter what guitar John has. He always sounds like John.
Awww the Gretsch!!
That´s not his Gretsch, its an Epiphone.
nope!
@LandonRemixes and btw, this de facto was formed in 1993
listen to 4.12 the drum and bass is fucking amazing
the guitar is an Epiphone Joe Pass full hollow body with the pick guard assembly removed..I'm almost positive because I have the same guitar
Well spotted
No, there are a good few differences between the two. The headstock and behind the bridge are different for example
AND Ikey on keys!!
i dont like anything the chili peppers do but i love when john and omar get together
frusciante + omar = GOD
didn't know the scale of omar's genius could encompass the drums as well...
but that still doesn't explain the obvious difference in style between the albums done by theodore and pridgen
4:30- 4:55
Faaaaaacc!!!! CRAZY KEYS!!! FK YES!!
they do.
I miss Jeremy Ward
cedric is freakin sick yo...
I think the person showing the most talent here has gotta be omar on bass.
Looks to me as a Gibson - But I'm not sure : )
The flowery inlay and the headstock looks like some of the Epiphones, I think : )
What the person before me said.

vaya, ni pensar que ese chavo de la bataca, cedric, se convertiria en el mas chingon cantante de estos tiempos, para mi al menos
17 years ago… 😮
2002/2003
@torres619 JF doesn't use hard drugs anymore. he quit that over 10 years ago.
3:40 such a John thing to play ♥
Slane Castle Californication intro jam!
cedric's drumming is tasty...
does he write the drums for the mars volta's albums??
that's what i thought! but in actuality, there's a fountain in the background. :)
epiphone. sounds so fuckin good.
If you look at the headstock, it looks like a Epiphone
De-Facto is a great mixed banded with great artist adding Jhon in this song just makes everiithign better, They kick out the jams, Omar and cedrix are gods!
wow...amazing agrupation! cedric, omar and john! if brian molko could just be there at vocals it woudl just be great!!!
John only plays the first two solos on L'via. Omar taught john all the parts on amputechture
