  • On December 27, 2019, I came out to Long Branch loop early in the morning to catch a ride on the least frequent TTC streetcar on the network. Ride along with us as we follow 508 LAKE SHORE across southern Etobicoke, into Parkdale and through downtown Toronto before we take it back to Roncesvalles on Parliament, Carlton, and College.

    You need to do an episode on how accessible the new Flexi cars are, especially showing the ramp deployment and the in car announcements about the ramp deploying that tells people to use other doors. If you ever want a ride along with someone in a wheelchair, I will be happy to join you and show how people with dissabilities are loving the fact that these new cars are making it easiers for us to travel on the system now that all surface routes (and most of the subway stations) are accessible.

    An absolute pleasure!!!
    Thanks for filming and sharing.
    Is this route still in service in summer 2021?

      Unfortunately, it was suspended at the start of the pandemic as public transit ridership tanked, and it still hasn't been restored. Perhaps in the new year, things will get fully back to normal.

    Surprising that you chose a northbound view, hiding the lake shore itself from view entirely

      That's a fair comment. I chose the left side of the car primarily because it allowed me to see other streetcars passing.
      For Lake Shore, though, I'm afraid we don't get too many views of the lake, especially now with the high-rises going up. However, this does give me a different shot that I can do for when I get around to doing the 501 QUEEN ride along. So, look for that side of the street then. :-)

    are there any plans of making the lakeshore tracks have dedicated lanes?

    • @transittoronto
      @transittoronto  2 года назад

      Good question. In the medium term, yes. As the Waterfront West LRT is built out, the Lakeshore tracks will be upgraded, so streetcars can have a mostly reservation ride from Long Branch to Union Station. In the short term, nothing concrete has been started.

    I wonder how streetcar turn to left or right
    without steering wheel.

      The tracks guide the streetcar. At junctions, the driver can set the switches either manually or automatically in order to go in the direction he wants to go.

    Would it kill them to make Long Branch loop look a little more inviting? It's a disgrace.

    • @transittoronto

      I wouldn’t call it a disgrace, personally. The shelter is in good repair, and the art along the noise fence is nice. What would you change? More trees? They would be nice, but landscaping can be expensive for a system that’s so underfunded, they’re not running enough service.

      @@transittoronto Cleaning up the garbage and covering up the mud with something would be nice. And replace the standard rusty TTC poles with something more aesthetic. Right now the scene is so depressing, like some impoverished East European tram system.

      @transittoronto  4 года назад +2

      I agree with you that cleaning up the garbage should be a no-brainer (albeit one where the maintenance budget needs a little budge). We'll have to agree to disagree on the lamp posts; they're lamp posts, and I don't notice them.
      On the other hand, after posting my reply, I wonder now if a greening project might be something the area's Business Improvement Association or elements of the community could be brought in on. The sound wall has already been done, so why not channel that same energy to grass and flowers.
