- Rumble strips, flashing red lights and bollards didn’t stop dozens of drivers from driving into the streetcar tunnel on Queen’s Quay in recent years, but the TTC is hoping the installation of new automatic barriers will.
TTC: we built a car proof barrier
Torontonians: are you challenging me
Torontans?

I heard this so many times. The city & TTC is not lacking any reminder, including the signs, it is so clear. So its the drivers issue. $500 fine???? I think that is so low, make it $5,000 fine.
Take away their driving privilege if their that neglegent
The real mystery is why it took them this long to build two barriers.
They used the money collected from the fines to build them
What? There is a barrier?? Challenge accepted!!
What a perfect way to find out the dummies on the road This should be where you lose all rights to drive a car
Why not build gates along the streetcar line leading to this tunnel, preventing drivers from entering?
More space i guess?
@@BurnedNoodle 10cm thick barriers barely take up any space
they should not have to put them there anyways, dumb drivers should read the MULTIPLE signs that are posted...
Why not remove the concrete and keep only the rails? Those trams are only using rails, aren't they?
Not exactly sure what you mean, but it's because "streetcars" have to run on the street. Big rails in the way doesn't exactly help with cars. Plus, emergency vehicles, buses, even pedestrians sometimes use the right of ways. Plus, at intersections, cars need to be able to turn onto roads.
@@sovb Remove the concrete between the barriers and the tunnel. Cars would not get stuck inside of the tunel.
@@dustojnikhummer and wreck the rails in the meantime
@@paniniman6524 Yet in my country they can do it without a problem? In my city one tram section had completely redone its asphalt part, including taking it out and putting new one in... While service kept going so obviously it didn't damage the track
We have a problem in Nottingham UK where cars drive onto tram only bridges and get stuck in the pits which stops our trams from running to the most important stops. At one bridge there are 2 sets of bumps in the road, 6 small no entry signs, 2 large no entry signs, 1 sign with warning text, red lights, spikes, and deep pits to the sides and in the middle of the rails. There are no signs to say there the bridge goes anywhere and no satnav will give directions over it, its not even near a main road and doesn't get anywhere quicker for car users, And at least once a year someone will drive on the bridge. No matter what you do you cant stop people from doing these ridiculous things.
They should but spikes in the tunnel to burst your tires before you get to the end of the embedded rail.
Must think they're in a video game 😂
lol 500$ is nothing
RUclips algorithm: NEWS CANADA, HERE WATCH! RELEVANT!?
The TTC needs to import those "Calgarian-style" vehicle traps from Alberta!
These are found on the Calgary C-Train light rail system.
Simon Tonekham some kind of mechanical lasso? Sorry, I have a warped sense of humour.
@@truetech4158 well it's a metal grate-like object embedded on the pavement. Edmonton also have these too.
Why would Toronto not raise the fine if someone did get around all these barriers and did drive down into the streetcar tunnel just to show the people that they better pay attention fine should $5000.00
So it’s gonna cost a fortune to maintain those gates especially in winter.
When The Streetcar Goes In The Tunnel Then Car Gets In The Tunnel Thats Dangerous
Why not only license drivers that have the good judgement to not require all this? Wouldn't that fix this and much more? Why not focus on raising our licensing standards? Save lives, money, time.
Exactly how much brain does it take to go into a tram tunnel with your car?
They should put those at Spadina station
Now they think it's parking😂
"possible damaged vehicles" well yeah that blue 2 series needs new panels
It sounds good, but what happens when they brakes down... I'm going tell you it will take hours to get a technician down there to do the repair especially on a long weekend or even during rush hours.. Better hope it doesn't happen on your morning commute.
Nah, trams can tow other trams. Or in these cases, push. They'd just get the tram back to its depot and have it repaired there rather than on-site. Of course, that'd put another tram out of service for the duration, but it's faster than repairing it on-site.
I'm from the future... guess what... none of that worked
Why the heavy equipment? Isn't the car capable of driving itself out? If it can go in, it can surely find a way out the same way?
its stuck
it's not meant for people to go in reverse. also, when it gets into the tunnel, the rails come out from under the concrete. in other words, the car gets stuck
The embedded rail section ends inside the tunnel and becomes just rail. Cars can’t drive on a rail track and so they get stuck.
Should just call them trams...trams only!
$60000 to install? Lol
What’s wrong with cars entering the station
well it happened LOL
Uf ur 2 incompetent to see and abide by the sign then u shouldnt be driving
spoiler alert.. it didnt work
really? :D
It’s waste of money ttc
Gabriel George they mentioned that it costs more plus time and effort to remove those vehicles. And after seeing that one dented vehicle being carried away, those barriers might even be potentially more affordable than the auto repairs.
