I also use the "flats" on the short end of a hex wrench as a feeler to set string height.

Gibson's owner's manual (circa 1971) says to use the shaft end of a drill bit. Since it's round, there is no error introduced by rotating the shaft of the hex or blade of the feeler gauge.
